Hi dear, im in love with it. Its cool.

Step 2
*fold your fabric into two again, place the back piece on.
*Let the hem(base) of ur back piece touch the tip of the fabric where you have it on fold.
*Shift the the upper part of your back piece and measure from the neckline area of the back piece to the fold of the fabric as shown in the diagram. This measurement represents your neck depth for the front piece. My neck depth for the front is 7inches.

Step 3
*Use a ruler to draw a straight line at the hem of the back piece. Notice the hem is no more straight because we shifted the upper part.

Step 4
*After shifting the upper part of the back piece and you have measured the space between the neckline and the fold of the fabric, draw a straight line as long as your neck depth for the front.

Step 5
*Measure 2inches above the line you drew in step 4 and draw another line.
*Extend the neckline of the back piece using a slanted line as shown in the diagram.
* Use chalk to trace out the shoulder, armhole and side of the back piece on the folded fabric and remove the back piece.
* Cut the front piece

I expected that you would know how to cut a simple blouse. Im sorry but this thread is for those who are already learning, ill be teaching specific areas of challenges not to start teaching from the scratch.

For the back piece in step 1, your required measurements are
*Shoulder ÷ 2 + seam allowance (0.5) if you are fixing sleeves. If its sleeveless use Shoulder ÷2 + seam allowance (0.5) - 2
*Bust +ease (4) ÷4 + seam allowance(1)
*Blouse lenght + seam allowance (0.5) + hem allowance (1.5)

I understood everything u taught very well, I appreciate, I want to ask, is there another way I can use to cut cowl neck on gown without half cut. I made one for someone with this format but it was not full d way I wanted n secondly it was hard setting the back on the front in order to get d depth of the cowl neck.

Let's assume this is a dress, at the neckline, draw those three lines in the diagram, the upper line AB represents your neck depth. Cut your back first, trace it out on a paper (use paper cos you're going to cut it)to have the front piece and draw these lines on the front piece. I'll continue wen i get back from church.

After drawing the lines in the first diagram, slash(cut) and spread the line but don't slash it totally as shown in this diagram. You have to use paper for this pls, now place the paper on another paper or direct on your fabric, open the lines the same way it is in the diagram. Trace it out on the paper or fabric under it.

This is what it looks like after tracing. You can use this on blouse or dress and the drapes is fuller than the first one I taught you. Waiting to hear from you. Have a lovely week.

Hi dear, its like that because the neckline was raised, by the time the neckline comes down to form the drapes for the cowl neck, the shoulder will fall back to its normal position. Note: line ACE is the shoulder and armpit is a part of the body, in this context pls call it armhole or armscye.

I'm impressed with this thread @bellarita well done. Please the problem i usually encounter is gaping neckline. All the neckline of my tops or dresses never lie flat on the chest. can you please explain why this happens and what causes it? Thank you.
P.s the back neckline is fine, it is usually the front neckline.

Hello Jumzite!
The first thing that I will suggest is that you should always apply interlining (soft or hard gumstay or airstay) to the neckline whether you are using facing or lining, it makes it relax and it brings out the shape of the neckline beautifully.

Take note,
If your fabric is soft eg satin, silk chiffon etc use soft gumstay or airstay.
If your fabric is not soft eg Ankara, linen etc, use hard stay.
Lastly, if your fabric is thick like denim use soft gumstay or airstay to avoid it being too bulky.
Try that and let me know if the problem persist.
