Lies, don't know why "job loss" or "creating employment" r always used to sugar coat, exploitation and corporate greed in this country. So Nigerians should pay more for darkness because of 10000 jobs will be lost, do u know how many jobs n businesses dat r been lost daily because of ur over whelming incompetence? Infact 1 million jobs will be lost because of this new tariff.

PHCH and increase in tarrifs are like
You people paid GSM companies high ampunts of money for bad service back then.

But did they not use the money to improve things?

You Nigerians...you want awoof....but you never consider that the price of that awoof means people not getting paid for doing their jobs, and we being unable to buy the machinery we need to make things better.

After going through most of the comment above me I just wonder how those folks who sided with those discos mofos want 9ja to pay for darkness when even the minimum wage is nothing to write home about.
The stipend most of the civil servant receive @the end of the month can not even sustain them for two weeks Now tell me How did you expect them to pay fo electricity tariff they never enjoy? Here in Kontagora town of Niger state they only gave Us 3 hours light within 72 hours and they even had the guts to start distributing bills The question is Can You pay for for such a service?Hell no When families hardly feed on 001 or 101 per day.Well they distributed the bill and we received it with open arms waiting patiently for when they'll be coming to seize the wires Then the masses'll devour them to pieces. Some even went to meet the commissioner of police here that He should Lend them his boys to go on patrol with them Unfortunately for them The commissioner told Them he can't because Even he himself won't pay a dime.

We are patiently waiting on them to come and disconnect the light them they'll receive the beating of there life.

Only a PHCH worker will spill this trash. I pay about 6k for light every month yet I don't get light from PHCH. Isn't that fraud?

I burn close to 5k weekly for generator because of the useless power company we have in Nigeria.

We pay yet we don't have the light, yet you want us to pay more. Please make use of your brain. Let them work hard to bring constant power, I bet you Nigerians will be willing to pay.

Don't compare PHCN and GSM operators. They invest money to provide us good network but PHCH don't want to invest but need increase in tarrifs.

In the last 4months power supply grew from bad to worst even when it was increase 6months ago. What did they use the money for?

So, where do Nigerians think that the DISCOS are going to get money to imporve things.?

Privatization means privatization.

Sorry.....but we are never going to have light if we think we are too poor to pay for it.
We are too poor to be extorted. The main issue as I see it is that this DISCOs give fabricated bills to their consumers who they have failed to issue Pre-paid meters to. My bills have been padded by atleast #6000 monthly. I have complained ceaselessly to avail. This judgment if sustained, may us all to revisit fundamental issues surrounding billing system. A staff of one these DISCOs once told me that the submit the correct monthly readings only for their head office to "pollute" the bill because of the target they have to meet up. Must they steal from us to pay back bank loans? They should supply pre paid metres to every customer at less exhorbitant amount

We pay high amount of money but got what we needed immediately because they invested their money.
we are currently paying for what they don't have.

Even then, blaming Buhari for the price increase is wrong.

But still.....the fact is, we have to pay more for power if we want to see 24/7 supply, just as we had to pay heavily for GSM...back when we got useless service...for things to get better.

Unless....you people want government to take over the sector again.

And even with the price increase...most Nigerians do not even pay their bills. (And DISCOS too mess up by not giving us prepaid meters).
Spot on!

The sad thing about privatisation is that most Nigerians do not realise that privatisaiton means you are going to pay more for electricity.

We are not going to have light until we learn to pay for it.

We paid high tarriff for GSM....back when service was so poor we were paying N5000 for SIM.

We grumbled, but at the end of the day, things improved ...because the GSM companies had the money to invest in facilities from the excess mone we paid. And prices came down.

If we continue to prevent the power companies from doing the needful about the power sector...if we continue to prevent them from raisng the fees as they see fit, we would drive away more investors, and there would be more job losses. Which we do not need in these hard times.

And if you want an end to this, we have to take over the DISCOS again, which means heavy financial losses.

Nigeria needs trillions of naira to get up to 24 hours of light for everyone. And sadly, we do not have the money. That is why GEJ privatized power. And that is why APC won't reverse the decision

Call me names....but let's get real.
Prices for GSM came down because the market was competitive. The Telcos didn't come and say pay high price to get services. They invested in their infrastructure and charged high tariffs if you want to make use of it. Also they were not political firms, they were experts who came in with foresight and armed with funds. These DISCOs are simply mushroom firms set up by politicians and their cronies to loot us. How can a private firm ask me to pay for you to upgrade your infrastructure. That certainly isn't done anywhere in the World. They are Private firms and this is business. If they can't survive they should pack up and go. It ll serve as a deterrent for politicians and their cronies always wanting to take Nigerians for a ride.

OK.....let's go back to government running things, and paying low prices for power.

See if a child will grow when you feed him with 300 calories a day.

We need $1BILLION for power annually. Where are we going to get the money. ?

Unfortunately, it is from our pockets.

It is not something i like., but it is the cold truth.
Laughable. They have perfected different means to steal that money from our pocket. Nigerians spend a lot to generate power by themselves through generators. My neighbours are contract staff of an oil servicing company, who have only light bulbs and a refrigerator in their flat. No TV set, nothing else, for reasons best known to them. Yet, the guys complained bitterly to me showing me their bills running to #12,000 per month. They had to threaten the marketer that they will be forced to do something silly to him if nothing is done about their bills. I guess the sum total of money owed these DISCOs will include this crazy bills.

As bad as the situation is, it is not the job of the courts to dictate market forces. That is the function of supply and demand. The only people that can regulate them is either a regulatory body or a national assembly committee.

I just dey tire.
1. Did anybody help me observe that even electricity this days when it comes doesnt last for 2mins and another blackout for a whole month.
2. Did anybody observe that the so called fuel sold this days burns faster than gas? Fill your tank and drive around the town and check your gauge.
3. Did anybody observe that even the network providers are now short-changing Nigerians in the data/airtime billings.
4. Did anybody observe that only few people patronize electrical stores where Fridge, Televisions are sold.
5. Even our soup this days lack complete ingredients like stockfish, dry fish etc.
I have die. huh huh huh huh

Exactly! This privatization done by ineffectual buffon was a shady deal. How can someone in his real sense privatize the core infrastructure to a firm which has no adequate capital to finance it?

A simple visibility study could have helped before carry out this foolish privatization.
