Somebody should educate this man (PMB) on DELEGATION.
"You can not delegate your responsibility without giving commensurate authority"
Give states autonomy and control over their resources to enable them construct and repair roads in and around their state.
we don enta wahala for dis buhari hand chai!

This government is confused. What is the job of the federal government ?
I guess you don't know that there are too many items in the exclusive legislative list. In the next constitutional amendment, I expect the FG to ask the NASS to remove some items in the exclusive list and put them in the concurrent and residual lists. Imagine how stable power would've been if states are allowed to distribute power, which is in the exclusive list. Today, states can generate power but can't distribute same. Does it make sense?

This is long overdue, I think a bill should be forwarded to the National Assembly in this regard, if a state is rich enough to construct and/or maintain a federal road, why should it be stop in the name of one exclusive law? Some death traps federal roads, particularly in the opposition controlled states, could have been rehabilitated since but the unhealthy rivalries between the centre and states delayed such motives.

At least, the common man will benefit at last.
d states should also tek ova d mineral resource found within d state

That's the backward system we have. Why not allow states generate and distribute their own power?

The system is the problem. Corruption isn't .

It doesn't matter how sincere and honest PMB is, there will never be any tangible development without the collapsing of this current structure. Let's start with the Confab recommendations.

My friend, is there anything wrong in, for example, the FG permiting Enugu State to generate power for the whole state through coal?

Right from OBJ's tenure, Lagos and other states have constructed and maintained roads belonging to the FG only to be reimbursed later. This isn't about PMB or GEJ, it's about you and I.

Get over the election loss, GEJ is over it.
For you Gej is over it, but for APC nkor?

Nature has a way of balancing out unworkable systems.

The FG must give away a lot of the enormous but unnecessary burdens. The states should be doing much of the work while the FG should be limited to currency, foreign policy, defense, Immigration, etc. We don't need any Federal fire service; Federal police, etc.

The economic woes will definitely bring about the much needed restructuring. This is a huge blessing in disguise.

It will eventually be decentralised. The unitary system breeds all manner of tension, chaos and underdevelopment. Why shouldn't a state be allowed to harness the resources within its borders? Any unjust law is a threat to development.

system too mumu. ..I remember when bayelsa was able to provide enough power for itself...The moment nepa visited the state we ended up like every other state...epileptic power supply and most times darkness...It seems our leaders are allergic to restructuring the country...tHis is why to an extent I applaud the recent acts of the avengers...It might be one of the many ways to push the FG to diversify and espouse regionalism..

Timbi:
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has appealed to states to take over the repairs and maintenance of federal roads in order to reduce the burden on the Federal Government.

The council made the appeal Tuesday during a two-hour meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

It said states that could afford to take over federal highways should do so as quickly as possible so that the roads do not go into "total deterioration."

Briefing State House correspondents later, Women Affairs Minister Aisha Alhassan said the FEC l approved a memo presented by the Minister of Power, Works, Housing and Urban Development, Babatunde Fashola, for the re-designation of two roads in Kaduna State from being federal roads to state roads as requested by Governor Nasir e-Rufai.

Alhassan said e-Rufai had sent a request to President Buhari to re-designate the Nnamdi Azikwe and the Ahmadu Bello Expressways in Kaduna as state roads so that the state government would "have the power, without any inhibition, to work on the roads to make them better for Kaduna indegenes."

The minister noted that the council was very pleased with e-Rufai's request "because ordinarily, other state governors should have requested for permission to repair and be reimbursed.

"But he (e-Rufai) asked for outright handing over to the Kaduna State government so that they can take care of it as their own, and asked the (federal) government to complete the eastern by-pass ‎which is outside Kaduna linking the North-central to North-western Nigeria. That was also approved by the council because it is a welcome idea.

"The council also appealed to other state governments that can afford to take over federal roads to lessen the burden on federal government, to enable them repair and maintain roads as quickly as possible so that they don't go into total deterioration," the minister said.

E- Rufai hmmmm you are playing politics to be recognised, we all know where you are heading to....... Fed Govt should carry out their duties judiciously and allow states do theirs. Even state roads are yet to well managed not to talk of federal roads.

I love the way things are going. Sooner or later, we will all be forced to make compromise. There will be no secession to suit the north, but there will be regional autonomy to appease the south.

They are all coming back to our proposition for the past 25years.

With the Regional Autonomy we will take our destiny into our hands and whosoever wants to be doing Haram to Books in his region is free, whosoever that wants to be brandishing weapons all over his region in.the name of "we are militants" will also be free, while we can lock down our region for progress and development at our own pace-- whether jet or snail pace.
and who ever wants to go into commercial ritual, bank robberry, and child molestation is also free.

The federal government need to hands off Aebokuta expressway and Lagos Ibadan expressway.

I will love to see a fast train from Ibadan to Lagos (mainland then the light rail to the island while BRT to ither areas) passing through Ogun state. If it will take people 45 or 30 minutes non stop to get to Lagos from Ibadan, people will move out and reduce the population of Lagos and the hugh cost of housing.

Even without the train, a joint venture between these three states to build and toll that road would have seen it completed more than a decade ago. The FG has too much in their hands, they should hands off some things.
Yeah but not infrastructures like interstate roads.

Besides, is it the State Government that is looking for money to pay salaries? Or the complexities and dynamics that come into play for financing and managing a large scale project like that?

Re: Federal Roads: FG Begs States To Take Over by thespokenword: 4:24pm On Jul 21, 2016
The safety of lives and properties and the welfare of Nigerians are the sole responsibilities of government.
Before now,it was in the news that government want farmers to pay for their security and now, state are being urged to repair federal roads.
For this,it is now obvious that we are in a state of random madness. Please tell me, what now is the responsibility of government? Oh,to import Brazilian grass and to debate grazing reserve bill.
God help us from the mess we put ourselves.
Re: Federal Roads: FG Begs States To Take Over by eddy4naija: 5:07pm On Jul 21, 2016
This is the best thing that will happen. in this country. Just two months ago I was discussing with a neighbour about all the so-called federal roads being subjected to death traps and I suggested it will be better for the federal government to hand over all the federal roads to the respective states that are located therein and I'm glad to hear this good news.

I've traversed a lot of mecandanized and non mecandamized thorofares in this nation and the one that really make me kolo just recently is the Calabar-Itu road. "in fact, a pregnant woman will go into a forced labour while passing through this road", so said one of the passengers onboard the bus we travelled together and there are many of such federal death traps in the nation.

Nigerian economy is in shambles becos of the over centralization of the country. A situation whereby a state governor or government have to run to Abuja to beg for things to be done in his state is unacceptable. If the past governments in power have taken such proactive steps before now, most of the carnages experienced in this country on a daily basis would have been averted.

A situation where a President appoints a federal minister of works to oversee, construct and maintain all the federal roads in a big country like Nigeria is just an exercise in futility becos he will not be able to construct every roads in the country, but state governments can build and maintain roads in their domains becos no sane governor will want to live with dilapidated and death traps in his state.

This is also the time for the federal government to allow states to exploit the various natural resources in their respective domains like solid minerals and oil as the F.G is handicapped in supplying the needs of the entire country.

, we all know the situation of electricity in this country, the federal government should also allow states to build their own independent electricity
power stations and distribute to its citizens becos a situation whereby a sub-station is located in state - A and supplies power to state -B and other states and if the power station in state -A is faulty, it will bring total black out to other dependant states so this situation should be discouraged.

Lastly, apart from roads, there are lots of other economic activity the federal government should hands off to the states to enable better economic competition among the states and also make all those lazy and Abuja-dependent state governors stand on their feet.

Indeed....yet we have a genius of a president who had to hire 13 SANs instead of presenting his waec certificate and has sunk the economy of the country for the 2nd time as head of state. Coincidence? I don't think so. I agree Goodluck could have done a lot better, but President "Do It All" claimed to know and do all during his campaign and is currently stuck in a limbo with no plan or guide of how to redeem the current concerns in the country. People wanted Goodluck out and they got their wish, why has it become so difficult to move on with the choice u guys made consciously, focus on the person u believed could turn things around and u voted into power? Enjoy the Ride
No waste time with the sophisticated literates, you just dey bother yourself for nothing. The same people wey say GEJ no construct one single new road now want states to maintain FG roads.
