Tevez was never a creative midfielder. I saw him captain Corinthians before Westham pulled a coup. He used to wear a choice hairstyle when at Corinthians.
Aguero played as a point man at the U20 world cup in Holland 05. Although he was largely a bench warmer. In 2007 WYC he featured, and won player of the tournament/top goal scorer as a striker.

The closest attempt to convert a midfielder to a striker has been Mario Goetze. The experiment has failed woefully so far.
I wouldn't rule out his diminutive stature to be a factor

You are talking after they have blown. I watched Tevez as a young teen in Boca Juniors. I can tell you Tevez signed a Mega deal to move to Corinthians.

Aguero was a creative ten in Independiente.

I can tell you Tevez blew after Riquelme left Boca.

I would have to disagree with you on this. Tevez was the top striker for Boca juniors before leaving for Brazil. When he left Boca, they brought in Rodrigo Palacio who replaced him and took over his no9 Jersey.
I watched alot of South American league then on TV Africa. Palacio ripped it up and scored lots of goals for Boca.

His main position has never been attacking midfielder. Its like saying Nacho Monreal is listed as a Centre defender because Wenger stuck him there in a couple of game out of necessity.

Tevez wore ten in Boca. He wore a number before ten.

You have already seen the whoscored position. When do you think he played as an attack midfielder. I have told you it was after Riquelme he blew. This is something browsing can not tell.

He used to play similarly like Maradona, making driving runs from midfield.

This is not reading. This is watching. I was watching Crespo as a young boy at River Plate years before Tevez could trap ball. That is 95.

I watched Tevez games before he wore ten jersey. I do not know how to explain it to you.

I can not remember his first number but I was happy when he got the ten shirt. Talking Rodrigo Palacio no. 9 is a while.

Tevez used to play like Messi, those mazy dribble runs. From Corinthians to West Ham to Man Utd to Man City, you do not see those type of plays.

It is people who watched it that can tell you.

Before you continue arguing that Tevez position was never midfield, ask yourself, did you watch him as a young teen in Boca. If you did not, there is no need arguing.

Or you know more than Whoscored that top blogs quote.

You feel I did not watch a lot of South American League. I can give you two names that people do not talk about. Insua. Played for Independiente. Brilliant player.

Liduena, mixed Argentine baller, brilliant for River Plate. I watched Saviola and D'Alessandro at River. I can tell you Saviola went first. He left the club and D'Alessandro finish ball in River.

Just leave that side. My own is not South American. My own is Argentine.

I loved Tiki Taka before Wenger became popular at Arsenal.

D'alexandro was mercurial. His left foot was sweet. I thought he would become a big hit R. Carlos when he left South America.
You didnt mention Rogerio Ceni. The free kick scoring goalie.
There was a certain Obina who played for Flamengo, I used to think he was Nigerian because of the name.
There was a certain Christian Ladesma, Soriano, Robinho...

Anyway, I would have to see Tevez play as a 10 to really believe.
People saying he was the new Maradona should be disregarded in this argument. Remember, Saviola and Pablo Aimar were once touted to be the new Maradona. Yet they lead the lines

I was not really into Saviola because he spent most times upfront. Unlike the others who dropped deep during games.

Aimar. Wonderful. He was one who shocked me that he flopped. His first Champions League run in Europe was nice. As a young teen, he played in the final with Valencia.

Maradona said Aimar was the only footballer he would pay money to watch.

Aimar's flop coincided with the rise of David Silva. My love for South American football especially Argentina shifted to Spain because of the similarities in style.

Silva rose and Aimar went.

I did not hop on the Messi Bandwagon because of the flops of the likes of Ortega, Gallardo, D'Alessandro, Insua, Saviola (Who I thought was the truest footballer after his U20 14 goals) etc. They all flopped.

Tevez and Messi impressed me because they lasted more than the others.

Either way, hence Etebor can finish, I feel with his midfield knowledge, he can do more upfront. Although it does not matter much now because Siasia presses his team high up to field. He will get his chance to score more. However I see his role changing as the years passes.

Did you watched Jo, Hernanes, Diego Ribasa, Gil, Ganso, in Brazil?

What of De Federico and Pastore at Hurracan. Did you watch Falcao Garcia and Sanchez at River Plate?

I saw alot of Jo before he was snapped up by Manchester City. I never rated him from day one. I always knew something was not right with that boy. His skills on the ball as not polished although I thought he was capable of finishing but that never proved that case.

You remember Bernard? Nobody seem to remember him since he went to Ukraine. I think the war in Ukraine gave him alot of trauma.

Aimar was mercurial. But I think his problem was getting on the physical side of things. He always shyed away from digging in.
If he had the mental strength of a Veron or Riquelme, he would have been bigger.

Naturally, I followed Pastore, there's this thing I love with left footed players. I love their skills, deft touched and poise on the ball. I find it mesmerising.

Remember, Vagnar love at Palmeras, Fred, Danny Calvaho, Robinho (lol), Cicinho.

Another curious case is Luisao. The Benefica defender. He has had a solid career in Portugal but I've always rated him and thought he would make it in a bigger league. He is better than Dante, Alex and co in my opinion.
He over stayed in Portugal that's why people don't know how good he is.

My best team in South America is River Plate. I like their passing style.
Their pressing style was created by Danny Passarella. He is like the Cruyff of Argentina. I watched them alot.
Especially when they had Higuain, he scored for fun. I knew he would blow when he got to Europe.
They replaced him with Falcao, who went goal gaga. I was surprised when Porto bought him. I thought one of the bigger teams in Europe will snap him up from Argentina.

My favourite South American team is Boca Juniors . I love the way they strangled teams at the Bombabnera. Lol

I am left footed. I follow left footed players. Liked Vagner Love too. Jo CSKA Moscow was the bomb. Some missed that he was a young teen at Corinthians.

You can imagine he is still 29. You are right about one thing. That boy can finish. Packed powerful shots in both feet. He played along side Vagner Love at CSKA. With Yuri Zhirkov.

Bernard Brazil was the bomb. That guy was another young teen that showed a lot of promise. That is another reason why I follow Shakhter. Their history of Brazilian players is interesting.

From Adriano to Willian, Douglas Costa, Alex, Fred (Who I rate highky), Taison etc. Many Brazilians who do well in the league end up at Shakhtar. Shocked Bernard did not end up at Barcelona after his Copa Libertadores run with Jo and Ronaldinho.

The problem with Brazilian players is that they party a lot and they do not work hard.

Jo had a chance of resurrecting his career at Galasataray when Rijkaard signed him. However, the boy was not serious. Holding wild parties in a place with lots of Muslims is nothing far from madness. Jo and Giovanni Dos Santos failed Rijkaard. Similar to Adriano (Inter) who failed Ranieri at Roma.

With all the talents they have, their poor attitudes to hard work chase coaches away from them. I suspect Taison will have that problem.

Awoniyi could learn a thing from two about finishing from Jo. One thing I liked Jo is that he makes up his mind early and does not deal with goalkeeper pressure. He keeps his distance away from the keeper.

Your a Boca man. So during the Classic games, we are on opposing sides. That is nice to hear. I guess you watched loads of Araujo.

I am a huge Pastore fan. I was impressed when Eric Cantona picked him as one of the best.

Sergio Araujo is a good little player. I like him as a footballer, he is capable although the down side is his physical strength and tendency to be selfish.
His counterpart at River Plate was Lucas Ocampus. He was hyped up like mad.... I think Madrid was going for him at a point.
It's sad they both haven't blown like people would have thought.

Honorable mention to Martin Palermo. He scored shiit load of goals for Boca. Remember Juan Pablo Angel when he played for River Plate?

Another SA player I expected so much from was Juan Itturbe. He is another left-footed bomber. I can't explain how he fell so bad and ended up at Bournemouth very early in his career.

But of these boys, the best of the lot has to be Dybala. I rate him very very highly. He could is another £100m player in the making. His kinetics looks good.. He's so similar to Aguero.
Juventus pulled a coup to get him from Palermo.

What's your opinion on the new super eagles manager from Germany?

So Berisha is in the Swedish team. The golden boot win of the under 17 world cup.

Sweden are the European champs at this level so it will be a tough game.

I hope siasia has made adjustments.

Ocampos hype did not have part 2. Man City was also interested in making a big move for him. I think it was Passarella who blocked that move of Ocampos because of greed and wanting more money. Similar to what is going on with Chibueze of the U20.

The offers for Ocampos came but Passarella wanted more money. He held on to the player to long until his value dropped. Erik Lamela escaped. He was another held too long. From when Barcelona cam for him when he was Thirteen with the Junior team.

He escaped the last time.

Martin Palermo, genius. Sad he did not have a brilliant European. His value dropped when he missed three penalty kicks in one match. His flop at Villareal baffled me. He had all it took to become another great like Forlan and Falcao.

Glad he picked himself and ended on a high.

Juan Manuel Iturbe, young genius. In his young teens, was among the reserve squad of Argentina in 2010 World Cup. I think e missed out choosing Argentina our Paraguay.

He would have been fast tracked into the Paraguayan squad, stayed in the limelight and still be a top player. The Argentine creative midfield attack competition is too high. I thought he would blow at Porto but he flopped. Same happened with Walter at Porto but Iturbe fared better than Porto.

Another that carried mad hype was Villalva. I thought that was another Aguero in the making. When you see these guys at 15 - 16 yrs, their abilities are frightening. You think they are the real deal but few turn out.

Even My Boy Buonanote. He looked the real deal before the tragic car crash that claimed the lives of his friends.

I also enjoyed Ever Banega at Boca. I was scared he would not make it. He did and I hope he succeeds at Inter. Felt he was the perfect replacement for Xavi. Enrique did not think so and Picked Rakitic over Ever.

I am not excited and impressed with the option of Rohr as the Super Eagles Boss. He does not spark excitement in me.

I felt that technical adviser role should go to Amunike. He is qualified. Has the international Qualification for the job. He is from the Tiki Taka mould which suits the kind of players coming out of Nigeria.

Amunike has the playing experience. His team mates are top coaches. People like Enrique and Guardiola.

I believed it was time to give our coaches a fair chance with finances and proper preparation.

Unfortunately, Pinnick is carried away with White skin.

Rohr's most impressive run was in 1996. The game has developed far from that knowledge. I doubt that man is a better coach than Amunike. I doubt he is better than Salisu. Unfortunately, no fair ground to test them.

This is a case of Salisu Yusuf doing all the work and the white man speaking tactical jargons and taking the glory.

Well, he is now the Super Eagles manager and We have to throw our support behind him.

I expect a tough game. After their performance against Columbia who are one of the favorites in this tourney, We need to take Sweden seriously and as a big threat.

They took the lead against Columbia before a mistake by the defender handling the ball in the box got Columbia the Equalizer.

I hope we are cautious in this game. The Swedes are a technical side with strong midfielders.

We need to keep it tight at the back. With our boys rested and Seth noting his mistakes from the first game, I see us scaling through. I hope we win this one.

Juan Itturbe plays for Paraguay. He declared earlier he wanted to turn out for Argentina but it didn't work out finally. I think Porto binned him because of his attitude. He probably was thinking he is a big player and didn't bother to put in much work in training. His constant running to twitter to whinge when not selected didn't go down too well with the Porto hierarchy.

Ever Banega is a pocket dynamite in midfield.
Himself and Fernando Gago ran the show for Boca at the time. Its hard to believe he is under 30.

Am surprised Diego Simeone didn't snap him up. He would have been great playing along side someone like Koke. They will have naturally pressed and harassed teams to death.

I don't know much about Bounanote.

Erik Lamela is another one of those sweet lefties. I was wowed when I watched him closely at the U20 championship before he went to Roma. He's a bit like a left footed Kaka.

Buonanotte was one of the young ones in River Plate with Sanchez and Falcao. The very short one. Very skillful and promising. Pellegrini signed him to Malaga but I think the death of his friends affected his mind set.

As for Rohr, I do not know much. Still wonder how he clinched the job.

I wish the NFF can release a detailed statement why they feel he is the right person to lead the Super Eagles now.

Did you watch his Burkina Faso or Gabon side? I heard he did well in a couple of African countries.

I did a little dig on him and found out he discovered Zidane and Lizarazou while at Bordeaux.

I don't know what to expect of him in terms of tactics being that he is an old school German coach. Although he has a lot of influence from France.

Something strikes me as well that he is a highly committed and industrious individual.
His work in Africa earned him German football ambassador award.
He works as an analyst on French TV too. He's quite popular in France.

In the end, I think we may have someone who will roll his sleeves and get his hands dirty to get the job done.
He looks like someone who has eye for talents too judging by the work in Burkina Faso with their academies.

Am just trying to draw out positives.

I see a very hard game. We can not win with that defence. Sweden are very organised and European champs.

The good thing about Rohr is that he does not need the money. He owns a hotel in france or so. He simply wants to work.

One commentator on twitter who knows him well was wondering why he will want to come to Nigeria given our record with coaches.

I see a very hard game. We can not win with that defence. Sweden are very organised and European champs.

With the talents we have, Sadiq Umar, Imoh, Etebo, we can break through. My fear is them hitting us on the counter because it will take a lot of pressure to Crack that defence.

Pressure on their defence can deceive our players into feeling they are stronger and on top of the game. A quick counter can leave us in a bad situation.

We need to prevent conceding. Stay organized with the ball and seek the goal. A goal against he Swedes will open them. We need the first goal to win.

Also we should focus on getting corners. That is the best way to Crack an organized defence. Win corners and try to score with them.

We should also be cautious during corners because they can mount counters from defending corners.

We can cope against them with an organized attacking game.

One of the reasons why I always keep calm and listen to elders when they argue, dig out and analyse issues is to be able to learn and in doing so, hide my ignorance.

The analysis here is always a top notch.

His awards and understanding of development is good. It is a welcomed development. My problem lies on the technical side. Is he a proven tactical master? From our last World Cup appearances, we lacked in the basic tactical play, despite players who play in Europe.

Are we expectant of an improved tactical display with Rohr in charge or is he here to do more developmental work.

I do not think the developmental work is more of a challenge than an immediate improvement in our play. We need good results fast to improve our ranking. Is Rohr the kind of coach to give us that immediate results? That is my problem.

We are not looking for spotting talents. The talents are there already. We need a coach who can select a killer eleven, get them playing brilliantly in a short time.

I wonder if Rohr is up to the challenge. He has Salisu who will get him up to speed with the team.

I wish him the best. If he wins, the Super Eagles wins.

NIGERIA LEAGUE HOTSHOT OBAJE MAY REPLACE JUNIOR AJAYI AT SFAXIEN

by
Samm Audu

Tunisian club CS Sfaxien have moved quickly to replace Nigeria Olympic team star Junior Ajayi with the leading scorer in the Nigeria league Godwin Obaje.

Sfaxien, whose president resigned following fans’ protest over the recent transfer of Junior Ajayi to Al Ahly of Egypt, have already contacted Obaje’s club Wikki Tourists in this respect.

“The Tunisian club have contacted Wikki on Obaje. They want him as a direct replacement for Junior Ajayi,” a team official told only AfricanFootball.com.

Obaje is the leading scorer in the Nigeria league with 14 goals for title chasers Wikki.

He is a powerful and direct playing centre-forward, who besides scoring goals works hard for the team.

Last year, he posted a short-lived stint at Slovak champions AS Trencin only to head back to the home league after a contractual dispute.

SIASIA MUST FIX LEAKY DEFENCE TO KEEP OUT SWEDISH ONSLAUGHT

by
Samm Audu

African champions Nigeria go into their second group game at the Rio Olympics Sunday against European champions Sweden very much aware their defence cannot afford to gift goals like they did against Japan on opening day action.

Sunday’s showdown between continental champions Nigeria and Sweden will kick off at 11 pm Nigerian time at the same Amazonia Arena in Manaus, where Dream Team VI let in four goals against Japan.

But for the opportunism of four-goal hero Oghenekaro Etebo, Nigeria’s campaign could well have got off to a losing start.

The central defence combo of William Troost-Ekong and Sincere Seth, better known as a right back, struggled to contain Japan on Friday as Stanley Amuzie, who gave away a penalty to further fuel growing doubts about his defensive capabilities.

Tiredness caused by landing in Brazil barely six hours before kick-off has been given as excuse for the team’s disastrous defending.

However, what cannot be argued is that the defence has missed Nath Boys FC of Lagos star Segun Oduduwa, who for all his rough edges was the heart and soul of the back-four from the inception of this team.

There have been suggestions that South Africa-based goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi could well replace Rangers shot stopper Emmanuel Daniel for this fixture.

Daniel was the man in goal when Denmark trounced the Nigeria U23s 6-3 in an invitational game in South Korea earlier this year.

Incidentally, Sweden walloped their Scandinavian rivals Denmark 4-1 in the semi-final of last year’s UEFA U21 Championship on their way to be crowned European champions.

Their strikers Mikael Ishak and Astrit Ajdarevic were on target in the 2-2 opening day draw with Colombia.

Such is the quality of their attack that Valmir Berisha, who was top scorer at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup, was only a stoppage time sub.

But as much as the Nigeria defence has struggled, their strike force has flourished even with leading scorer and new Al Ahly signing Junior Ajayi warming the bench for the entire Japan game.

Etebo has caught the attention with his double brace and Roma youngster Sadiq Umar justified his surprise start with a goal, an assist and caused a penalty as well as put in a decent shift on a hot and humid night.

Imoh Ezekiel, who has featured for top Belgian clubs Anderlecht and Standard Liege, will again be a factor with his dashes down the right wing.
