A lady left her 2months old baby with a friend at my mum's shop. She went into the market to buy some stuff. After she left, her baby started crying uncontrollably and the baby is on EBF(exclusive breast feeding).
The friend couldn't endure the baby's cries anymore and guess what she did?

She bought satchet water, opened it and started giving the 2months old baby.

My mum tried to intervene but the friend said she is tired of the cries and the water wont kill the baby.
I dont think the lady values her friend's baby at all. It was so surprising

I do not think the friend has done anything wrong here.

Why would a responsible mother leave her EBF fed baby without making arrangements on what the baby will drink whilst she is away? No formula, no expressed milk, no water. Did she leave instructions on what the baby should be given just incase the baby became hungry/cranky? In fact, she should be punished for child abandonment.

Babies do not have an alarm clock to indicate when they are hungry or thirsty. Babies can get hungry at anytime.

The friend had no choice but to do what she did as the baby was clearly hungry or thirsty. Better to give her water than to leave her crying herself into a fit or till she chokes on her tears.

The only thing she should have done differently was maybe give her nestle water rather than sachet water.

The wrong the friend did is giving an EBF baby water. Not just any water, satchet water abi pure water. It just didnt feel right sis.

I"m sure she isnt experienced with babies else she could have checked to see if there was anything else making the baby cry. Probably a wet diaper, heat or so on.

That's why i think its best to watch who you give your baby to

It's called separation anxiety! Very normal I cried the first time I left my boy for wound dressing which didn't take up to an hour

I'm certain the two people are very capable right? You will get used to it with time.

My mum usually intervenes o but i'm sure she was either busy with customers or the friend didn't give her the chance to. The girl didnt bother asking where dey sell bottled water. She just called those pple hawking pure water and bought it. The baby was even rejecting the water and she was still forcing him to take.

There was a young girl who was crying profusely while trying to soothe her baby as she buying something at my mum's shop. My mum asked her what the problem is and she said her baby has been crying for an hour uncontrollably and she doesnt know what to do anymore.
My mum carried the baby from her, changed his clothing to sth lighter, massaged his tummy a little and in minutes, the child slept off.

But i've even tell her to stop helping strangers with their babies before wahala go happen one day and it'll be on her head.

Lol. It's the frustration/lack of patience that comes from the pressure of handling a crying and hysterical baby as a totally inexperienced lady.

It's the same frustration that leads to psychos (some of the them are actually the baby's parent) shaking a baby vigorously just to calm them down and which then leads to the brain bleeding and further health challenges down the line (Google shaken baby syndrome).
