Actually the houses the Yoruba built back then were quite impressive. They were not mud huts but very big architecturally distinct dwellings. I will look for a picture and post here. This is not a good picture. But notice it's not a small round hut for sleeping. Not being bias because I am Yoruba but we had a better standard of living that was purely Yoruba. Before the influence of any religion. We made our own clothes, dyed the clothes into beautiful designs, smelted iron and made use of it and made glass beads. We also had the exposure to create terracotta statues that are well advanced and cannot be replicated today. Also farmed and fished.

Yes the results of Yoruba finese are as obvious as the great Wall of China taken from outer space.

The greatest empire in Africa, Oyo:

Light skin or no, Igbo features are relatively easy on the eyes.

Fair enough. The one picture of the completely naked woman seems to be some sort of ritual or something as I've not seen anything like that before. Most men and women tended to cover up below the abdomen area and not above it. It was perfectly normal at the time and not something that should be sneered at.

Stop writing rubbish, it's not my fault your people were running around naked. Stop trying to deflect from your anger, even though you really have no reason to be angry cause only a small group of African's were clothed. Even Egyptian work men wore loins. It's only the Kanuri's coming from the Middle East who wore clothes because of the dust of the desert and they brought their Islam with them, and of course the Yoruba, Malians, Swahili and Ashanti wore clothes. Finish.

No, you were being condescending towards the Igbos as if wearing more clothes= being more civilised. You know what you were doing.

I'll repeat what I said before, if the Igbos became civilised "very late", as you put it, but they managed to 'catch up' and even supersede other Nigerians just 30 years after this picture was taken, what does that say about these Nigerians who were supposedly 'civilised' at an early stage?

the question here is which other nigerians have they superseded. i will need you to name the tribes that got superseded by the igbos before we can continue this conversation

They were the leading ethnic group in the civil services in the 1950's and 1960's. This was just 20-30 years after those pictures were taken. Read of that what you may...

First of all,all the pics posted are not igbos but a few are traditional igbo dancers, thirdly,we ve seen some of the pics and they are not from 1930,the kid that affixed 1930 in the pic is obviously from mgbatiland and his broda seun and his yarriba mods brought it to front page

that is very correct. however the civil service was not where the big dawgs were. its like in america where the civil service is filled with negros. the civil service is a medium level status thing. the high powered people back then were yoruba businessmen.

Dominating the civil services showed that they were the most educated group in the whole country. I'm not talking about 'big dawgs'- who cares about that? I'm talking about education, which is a better measurement of the development of a region than wealth.
