When has it become a crime to name a dog whatever name you like?

It's not a crime. But writing it on the dog depicts something else.

The most powerful man in the world is called various names by republicans without any obvious repercusions . It dosen't change who he is and dosen't stop america from being the greatest country in world history.
Here we have a tyrant, despot and illiterate supported by sociopaths and mad men. The same set of people who call themselves sophisticated.
Amala sophistication. grin

And no commentor above has said anything about the il/legality of the arrest.

Since when did it become a crime to tag a pet any name whatsoever?

Since when did it become a crime to wear the name tag or inscribe the name on the pet's skin?

This is 21st century; anyone can name their pet whatever they choose. And this is the Southwest for fnx sake not the North; I don't see how this is inciting.

Sometimes, I just wonder if Nigerian institutions are meant to serve the North -- see how the police were quick detained the man beyond 24 hours & stepped further by transferring him to a higher station.

Where the lawyers dey o, help me understand this matter abeg.

....Conduct likely to cause breach of public peace....that's your answer. Just imagine a person of northern extraction residing in Yenagoa, in reaction to this provocation, if unchecked, goes ahead to name and inscribe his billy goat with OJUKWU. What would Ohaneze Ndigbo elders and youth fora say or do?
The Chinakwe man is a mischief maker with clear intent to precipitate civil strife. The law has ample provisions to deal with such persons and indeed such persons must be contained to prevent anarchy in the country.

Good, let him stay inside INBOX small and learn some simple lesson in hard way. This is how they bring problem upon themselves and when the jungle matured they start crying foul.

Bunch of hypocrite with hatred blood.
I love ur comment, u r in spirit. I know that ur background is reflected in your stand but notwithstanding you really TYPED out the mind of the right thinking people. The amazing part of it is that, he named the dog a yr ago or thereabout, and I know that they would have been warning him to stay clear but because of his foolishness. Well, this will stand as lesson for some other careless, frisky and shallow-minded souls remaining out there that God creates brain for us to use. cool

The igbos hatred for Buhari is second to none. How will a sane person give a dog a whole president and commander in chief's name? This is the after effect of the negative messages Nnamdi kanu preached on his useless radio. He taught most of them to disrespect the president all because of their useless biafra agitations. I suggest this man be locked up and the keys thrown into the Atlantic Ocean. This will serve as a lesson to other unpatriotic IPOB yoots who found mentorship in Nnamdi kanu. How will the Igbo's feel if one names a goat Ojukwu? Biafra will never come sad

Regards brother.

For the Afonjas calling the man an igbo man because of his name, let it be said that the guys is from Isele Ukwu in Delta state, I know him and he never accepts to be called igbo. So please direct your venom to his clan and not the proud Igbo Nation.

People are drifting from the main point here, though Igbos can be very provocative which is one of the reason for the ethnic cleansing that took place in the 60s, I don't think the police has any reason to detain him. he's supposed to be cautioned and released immediately. They only detained him because the Northerners threatened to kill him if he's released. Now between exercising his rights to give his any names that he wishes (Nigeria doesn't have any laws prohibiting giving your baby or dogs any names though some countries do) and threatening to commit murder, which is a higher offence?

I think the Igbo guy was wrong here, naming the dog is not an issue but inscribing the name on both parts of the body in a predominantly Hausa neighborhood is inciting. What was he thinking, I've never seen anything like inscription of names of dogs on them before

Can I name a goat "Ojukwu" and expect Igbo to say thank you.

This is RUBBISH! ABSOLUTE NONSENSE!! In a country where we supposedly have freedom of expression?? If the Northerner is offended he should go hang himself!! Inasmuch as I don't support the whole Biafra movement, this is absolute nonsense. . . Are we in a civilian dictatorship? Even if we are in one (like Putin of Russia), no normal authority has the right to do such. Even Putin's ban on 'gay propaganda' doesnt ban them from expressing themselves as long as they don't advertise it and make it a public show. Isn't Nigeria a member of the United Nations ? I wish they could hear about this angry . Its too bad there's no second amendment in Nigeria's constitution, because I think its time for a revolution

I do not think anybody can be held for protection except the person requests for such. Being transferred to a place such as 'Elewe eran' does not look like protection in anyway.

I do not see how they can establish a case of breach of public peace here. Buhari is a name and can be pegged to anything; shop, products and pets; animate & inanimate object.

It makes the police look like it is wading into the matter to take sides with a paticular group.

Can I call a goat "Ojukwu" in front of an Ibo man.

He can name his dog as he likes. When such action was purposely done to provoke his neighbors which will lead to an ethno-religious crises, he has crossed the line.

This is just like me making a video showing myself tearing up and burning a Quran and saying "Hey, I bought it with my money" and not expect the DSS to breaking my effing door in

Is buhari a prophet? He is a president of Nigeria and he is there to Serve. What do u expect? They are taking it too far. Mere causion would help instead of charging him to court.

I can't believe that people are defending the action. Omg. Nigeria is f*cked, I think we deserve the tyranny we're getting!! How different is this from writing 'Buhari is a dog' on a placard and protesting with it? Just because I still believe in Buhari's government doesn't mean another person HAS to and he has every right to demonstrate his feelings as long as he doesn't do it violently. This is really pissing me off ngl. What's next, arrest people who support opposition parties?
