it seems we would be the first export market for the Thunder. How many are coming in this year?
We are expecting 3 units this year. There's no public knowledge of the number ordered but the Air Force previously said they have a requirement for 2 squadrons, that is between 25 - 40 planes.

i just hope they don't paint those assets; the helos, thunder and drones, in the boring camo. Let it be in the same ash colour that the F-22 is.
Most of the military aircraft are painted grey in color in order to reduce their visual signature in sky and in turn increase the visual stealth of aircraft. Which means they are harder to see from other opponent aircrafts and ground forces. F22 grey color is due to it's stealthy nature. RAM.

definitely human intelligence had a big part to play in collaboration with the ISR platform

i have seen several footage of iraq helicopter gunship FLIR camera showing the same symbol, this helicopter are armed with rockets and heavy machine gun.most likely its the laser range finder or designator, especially to guide the MI-17 crew with night vision googles to where the target is located

I was also wondering about that. It seems like the footage we've been seeing from the Beechraft, but why does it say armed?

It seems the ATR-42's have been rotated out of the frontline, and the Beechcrafts have taking over operational ISR duties.

However, i still wonder why the Air Force used the MI-17?

Of course there has to be HUMINT, there's no way just roving aircrafts in the sky can give accurate intel.

Prior to the operations, the Air Force had on August 16
commenced series of Intelligence, Surveillance and
Reconnaissance (ISR) missions to corroborate human
intelligence that key Boko Haram commanders had gathered
at the said location to hold meeting at night.
The NAF revealed the
achievements on Tuesday in
a statement by its Director of
Public Relations and
Information, Group Captain
Ayodele Famuyiwa.

Yes the armed makes me believe it's probably from a UCAV.
How many beechcraft does NAF operate? ...and possibly the beechcraft has a better ISR capability than the ATR.

Am sure the Mi-17 didn't do all that. A Mi-24 /35 would have been involved.

I don't think Kerry can do anything about the Tucanos. Although Reuters news agency did say the US government is trying to push Congress to approve the sale of 12 units. The chances of us getting the Tucano is 40% in my opinion. Our current obstacle is congress.

We should be looking at 2017. The only aircrafts coming this 2016 are the JF-17, Super-Mushak, Yahbon Flash 20, MI-35M and MI-17 termintor1SH.
was really surprise dat our Alfa jet's excorted him to sokoto.

NAF has 4 units of Beechcraft Super King350i in service. All 4 units are fitted with a Flir systems, FLIR. When the Beechcraft was initially delivered, a dependable Air Force source who used to blog at beegs did say they were going to be fitted with more powerful cameras.

We've not yet seen downloaded footage from the ATRs, quite like we've seen with the Beechcraft and CH-3A, so, it's quite difficult to make a comparison.

It's had to say the MI-17 did all that, except if they were a pair of MI-17 helicopters.

most fighter jets, mostly 3rd generation, are painted in the green camo. Our alpha and J7s as well as the Ugandan SU30s are painted in that same colour.

Could be the 4 tonne capacity of the Mil-17 and/or the physical dimensions. They may have found themselves needing to drop a few heavy loads. For high value targets like that I am assuming they needed instant devastation. The 300 figures, quick high and unusual, should support the unusual method of delivery too

Your point seems plausible.

As for the 300 figure, the Air Force says it carried out a series of night raids on the 19, 20, 21 and 22.

Why did NAF make use of helicopters when our fighters could have delivered a better damage especially on those buildings to increase enemy casualty rate.

I will prefer a camo paint for the JF17's. Like israeli Airforce paint scheme.

That's one of the capability gaps the JF-17s would cover. Apart from our UCAVs, NAF fighter jets do not have the capability to carry out night attacks.
