or perharps special forces were inserted too cool cool cool ,how did they know he escaped

Won't inserting special forces in that area be to dangerous of a risk to take? I think a mole would have leaked the information.

Inserting special forces in such a mission would require nothing less than 100 men. I don't see how that's possible.

That's one of the capability gaps the JF-17s would cover. Apart from our UCAVs, NAF fighter jets do not have the capability to carry out night attacks.

Good then. Just waiting patiently for the arrival. cool

i meant special forces insertion for mop up , from the look of things not one mi-17 was involved ,someone was surely on ground to identify targets .

Can easily be spoted in high altitude air to air combat.

thats actually what american and somalia special ops have being doing with great success, conducting airborne raids deep inside alshabaab territories to capture and kill alshabaab high ranking members.also israel special ops have severally conducted such raids inside Hezbollah territories in past,to capture and kill hezbollah members also to gather Intel

Yes the armed makes me believe it's probably from a UCAV.
How many beechcraft does NAF operate? ...and possibly the beechcraft has a better ISR capability than the ATR.

Am sure the Mi-17 didn't do all that. A Mi-24 /35 would have been involved.
compare and contrast the screen symbols on this video of a CH-3 UCAV and the video posted, that's the reason why i think its the ISR platform

The Nigerian Air Force has 5 units of Gulma UAVs operational.

The Amebo is different, was more like a test-bed.

The Aerostar is a completely different UAV.

The Israeli ops are in a residential area, so minimal resistance, when compared to carrying out raids deep inside Sambisa forest against heavily fortified areas.

The Israeli operations was sleek though, they also hard Air cover from a UCAV. You have any video from US special forces operations in Somalia?

The problem i see with a similar type Nigerian raid is the danger of the Special forces been overwhelmed by superior numbers, what then happens then. Remember the failed French commando missions in Somalia, and the sort of Propaganda Alshaabab had with that French dead soldier's body. I'm sure these are risks Nigerian military planners would have weighed.

urban area offer better protection to the enemy because they can fire from builds which offer better protection ,compared to open spaces where you can clearly see you opponent thus direct fire toward that location.now imagine someone firing from a building, only precisely hitting that building with a 500kg precision bomb will enable your guys to move forward.

in both scenarios if you don't have adequate air assets your mission could be easily be doomed,we need to invest in tankers aircraft's, air refueling capability in both helicopter and fighter planes and drones.i believe during the french mission in somalia they under-estimated the resistance they were going to encounter.american never released footage of their raids in somalia ,but its well known in such mission their forces.always have adequate air cover e.g f-15's,reapers,AC-130 gunships e.t.c from Djibouti

The buildings provide adequate firing positions for the enemy, however the Israelis at no point do not run a risk of been over-run, unlike if a ground mission was conducted in the Nigerian raid. Anyway, there are both pros and cons of the scenarios, but i think considering the resources available
, airstrikes were the best options for the Nigerian raid in Sambisa.

The raid by the Nigerian Air Force shows a capability gap. Helicopters shouldn't have been used, they are the wrong sort of air asset to be used. Ordinarily we would have used F-7s but since the raids are at night, the Air Force only had UCAVs and Helicopters as the only other option. Early investments in proper air assets must be a priority, African countries always like to hide under the slogan of "competing demands" to under-equip security forces.

Although the Helicopters did the job, a modern fighter jet would have been the best suited asset for this sort of mission.

just sharing some info

in a certain country a few years back , there was a large geographical area with dense forests , mountains etc which was infested any time with 300- 400 terrorist , they operated in groups of 5 , 10 , 30 , 50 depending on their requirements.

if u killed 10 of them , they were easily replaced from across border .

their cells would operate both independently and in cohesion .

eg. one group would set ambush and corner the troops and slip away at their discretion , then another one or two groups would position themselves along approach points of the ambush site to hit the incoming relief/responder/evacuation teams .

casualty rate among troops was very high , the terrorists were special forces trained and battle hardened .

so after a few months a solution was found (much of the details are classified and this is the first time maybe u will be hearing it)

highly trained troops comprising 6-8 men dressed and equipped with enemy weapons were inserted without any comms for months.

these troops were trained to be terrorists grin grin grin

they dressed like terrorists ,
behaved like terrorists ,
talked using terrorists lingo ,
practiced the religious customs of the terrorists ,
got circumcised like the terrorists , grin
they raided villages for food like terrorists ,
their lived in the forests like terrorists ,
..............................
etc

the real terrorists started getting replaced by the fake terrorists little by little grin

i do know some casualties/injuries happened due to blue on blue fire.

after sustained ops all the terrorists were eliminated only those who slipped across the border time and again remained a headache which was later controlled with border fencing and surveillance etc.
