Leme jus say this. If you say it is wrong to make the news public, you are right, but to think that the player could get other clubs to sign him if the news wasn't made public is ignorance. No professional football club signs a player without him undergoing medical test. A player with the virus can not play football, basket ball, and other sport that involves body contact. The reason is, in these games, injuries can occur and players will bleed, with that, there can be blood contact and that's the end of the story. That's why you'd see the ref in a match ensures a bleeding player goes out of the pitch to get cleaned up just to avoid contact with others cuz who knows. However, you can say they should have just terminate the contract privately with the player

Men can also get HIV from having vaginal sex with a woman who’s HIV-positive. This is because vaginal fluid and blood can carry HIV. Men get HIV through the opening at the tip of the penis (or urethra); the foreskin if they’re not circumcised; or small cuts, scratches, or open sores anywhere on the penis. Above all ignorant kills faster than HIV

Brilliant!!!

Sadly, people like GossipHeart make up the majority in Nigeria. According the 2012 NARPH plus2 survey, about one in five young adults still had very wrong misconceptions about HIV.

Yes, sex is not the only way, but it accounts for 80% of the new infections. In fact, by this same time tomorrow, about 605 people across the country would have become newly infected with the virus. Shocking, isn't it?

@Gosspheart, it would do you well to take the wise counsel above so don't become another statistic and add to the hundreds I see in the clinic each day.

Are you kidding? The reason for medical test in football is to know the health condition of a player you signing. In fact, they should have tested him before the final deal. A Hiv/Aids infected person can not play football or any sport that involve body contacts, it's a rule

My guy, I believe you are wrong. There are some MBA players that are HIV POSITIVE and still playing as we speak. Magic Johnson played for sometime in the MBA prior to retiring after he announced his HIV Status (meanwhile he found out after he went for a life insurance examination). HIV test is not part of most sports facility physical exam or even physical exam required for most jobs ( I cannot think of any Job where Hiv screening is included as a pre-requisite over here).

The footballer just hit serious jackpot. He needs to hire a good lawyer and sue the hell out of those idiots.

It's very difficult to get H.I.V from sex, how old are you ??
To get H.I.V, there must be transfusion of blood.

Go read some book

I think you should read books especially if you are not HIV positive yet shocked shocked shocked

They just had to do it. It will be difficult to cope.
Not to mention stigmatization in the dressing room.

Does it mean HIV patients don't keep their jobs? Why do they have to sack him? He should be on anti retroviral drugs already as a carrier of the virus.
Sacking him in itself is the stigmatization being meted out to HIV/AIDS patients.

Hmmm....a media rep of the club confirmed the news......the club can be sued. Why are so many jumping to conclusion that he got it thru sex? .... why not from a doctor/nurse using dirty needle?/dentist using infected instruments?/infected blood?

If that is really true, by now HIV/AIDS would have wiped out the world. If you see the rate of abortions in Nigeria, you will know many people don't use comdoms . If I may ask, how many people are voluntarily going for test? The white have not really comprehend what causes AIDS . People , especially in developing countries lived and died, at old age, with HIV and without having AIDS. What will you say of a woman who tested positive without her husband, or any of her children positive? I have also seen a man who is positive and his wife and children negative? Those test kits can make you positive if it detect unusual stuff in your system . Even, malaria parasites can make you positive. You may say I'm spewing ignorance, but do some search via Google and by visiting general hospitals.

Even if other clubs sign him without knowing his status, they will still always do their Medicals, and he will always test positive.
If the policy in football is not to employ hiv positive people due to the risk of injury on the field, and possible spread of the virus he will always be sacked after 4 days in any club he goes.
Yea that's what I said earlier that they should have got the result of the Medicals first before completing the contract.

Sexual intercourse accounts for over 80% of HIV infection....Worse if homosexual(hope the player isn't)
Other risk factors is being a football star, these people are known to be randy ,womanisers(money, fame and of course,women)...check out what Usain Bolt did after his stunning performance at the Olympics(flirting with all sorts of ladies in clubs and his hotel rooms)...Other professions increase one's risk...celebrities,pilots,long distance bus drivers, soldiers, rig workers cos they stay away from home for long without their partners.
Nowadays, hospitals maintain very perfect sterilisation methods,so that gist of being infected via needle pricks from health worker doesn't sell.

Sad really.

Virtually every sentence you made is laced with bewildering ignorance which is really pathetic given the information age we live in and the unhindered access to verifiable facts.

You're telling a medical practitioner of over 5years experience in HIV program to 'visit' a general hospital. I laff in greek.

Well, I'm not too busy, let me indulge you a little:

I dont know what part of the country you live in, but if in Ebonyi take a trip to Ebsuth/FMC and tell the about 2000 patients currently collecting ARVs that their disease is a lie. Or if in Enugu, stroll to UNTH and tell the 4000+ patients that they have a fake disease.

In 2014, about 200,000 got infected and about that same number died from AIDs related causes. These are verified facts.

Yes, occasionally, the test kits may give false positives, usually to hepatitis B (NOT MALARIA). That is why Nigeria adopted the serial testing system - Determine, then confirmed by Unigold. In the unlikely event there is a tie, the person is further tested with statpak. In such a case, and provided quality standards are adhered to, a false positive is very, very unlikely.

Positive woman with a negative husband? Of course its very possible. Technically known as serodiscordance, there are many reasons why that happens (which I cant go into right now) and indeed we have a number of cases in our clinic.

In fact, if go to a place like Benue, much of the new infections are occurring in so called stable couples, so its not uncommon to see a positive woman with negative children/spouse. Moreover with proper PMTCT services, the likelihood of a positive mother giving birth to an infected child is less than 1%.

Developing countries that you referred to have their prevalence (number of those infected) as well as new infections a steady decrease. This mainly due their ability to get proper knowledge and overcome the plague of ignorance.

It would do you well to overcome yours.
