Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said it will resist any further increase in the pump price of fuel by the Federal Government, saying the nation is yet to recover from the impact of the recent increase of petroleum products implemented last year.

Speaking in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, at the 14th edition of the NLC special school programme, the NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, said the organized labour will surely go on strike if the government attempts to increase fuel price.

He said despite the change mantra of the present administration and the promise to the people, the socio-economic conditions of average Nigerians have continued to degenerate, stressing that it is necessary to convene a committee to review the national wage for workers.

“In the face of rising inflation following the devaluation of the Naira which makes the current minimum wage not to pay the transport fare of workers to and from work, not to talk of buying them basic needs, congress requests that, it is time minimum wage is reviewed as quickly as possible. The government needs to constantly consult with broad segment of the Nigerian population at all times, especially groups like the Labour movement Also, we are warning petroleum marketers not to contemplate any further increase in the pump price of the products, especially that of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). The current economic hardship required alternative economic agenda that should not be planned by the government alone,” Wabba said.

Declaring the programme open, the Akwa Ibom state Governor, Udom Emmanuel, noted the importance of the Labour movement in any growing economy and commended labour for establishing a school programme to provide training grounds for congress members.

NLC with its lies.

The Federal Government did not say anything about increasing prices, but to be in the News, the NLC is pursuing the Dog Whistle Policy of thinking for the Government.

NLC died when Adamu Oshiomhole left the Organization, and went into Politics. I don't even know what NLC stands for anymore.

But one thing is sure, they have lost relevance.

What even happened to the TUC wing of the NLC?they use to be very influential and powerful back in the day.

NLC should just key into the #BBOG project.

Buhari is destined to destroy Nigeria, his actions & inactions speaks volumes & lends credence to this fact.

Only GEJ has the magic wand that would revive the ailing Nigerian economy.

So, in the light of the foregoing, join me in the project;

#BBOG = BringBackOurGEJ!!!

NLC is the weakest labour union in the world. With all the laying offs, unemployment, abysmal minimum wage, fuel price hikes etc that have been going on, it would have been much more understandable and explainable if we didn't have labour unions in this country.

It will be very wrong and misplacement of priority if the government is actually thinking of increasing fuel price.

The right thing to do now is to increase minimum wage to at least N30,000 monthly.

Did the govt even contemplate or play with ideas of pms price increase before NLC's reaction?

I dont think so.

Is the charter of the NLC all about fuel? why always running to make news with fuel matter when union members are loosing their jobs in millions according to NBS?
