Oh! It's not the duration. It's simply the amount of attention, care and commitment between the two people involved.
Flings are mainly sex and can last as long as a relationship, until one of the partners decides he/she wants more or feel used.
Fling is more like a booty call.

well as far as this topic is concerned my stand is topic is concerned, my opinion is that the loyalty lacking was probably because the lady saw it as casual relationship which you in your own language refer to as fling, that is the point i made with my first comment
