Please Help!!! Advice Needed by kayStelly(op): 4:03am On Sep 07, 2016
Good day, great men and women of this forum. Am actually at a cross road now thinking whether to start a farm of my own or go into the business of being a "middle-man" (i.e buy from the farmers and sell to retailers).

So i would really appreciate if some persons that have actually ventured into either of above businesses could give me some tips as to what to expect, which is more lucrative and which posses little/no risk. Thanks in anticipation kiss

One thing you need to understand first is that everything in this World is risky, it just depends on how you make the risk affect u.

Starting an Agricultural business is a lucrative business, because there is high demand of Agricultural products.

Now straight to the question that you asked. I will start by telling you the advantages and disadvantages of building your own Agricultural farm.

Advantages.
1. You have total control on your farm and how you want to scale it by making it bigger or smaller.
2. You decide which price you want your products to be sold out. And many more advantages.

Disadvantages.
1.Put it @ the back of your mind that you will bear all the consequences that is going to affect your farm e.g loss of some animals, damage of buildings either by rain and many other things.
2. You have to wait a long period of time before you can start making your earnings.
3. The prices of fertilizer and animal food are sky rocketing
4. The buying of land and buildings will also take more money from you due to high prices of materials e.t.c

Next is being the middle man. As the middle man, you have mani advantages and less disadvantages, the risk there is also little
Advantages.
1.You only buy and sell @ demand from your customers.
2.You can scale up easily.
3.The risk is little and you only spend money for buying and transporting the Products to your Customers.
4. You have little to worry about. And many more
Disadvantages
1. You will have issues with your customers if you break thier trust towards you.
2. Some customers might not pay instantly

My advice is that, been the middle man is the best in this present economy, because you have nothing or little to loss than owning a farm and build connections, because thats one of the ways success. Wish you the best as you choose wisely.
