try tracing the direct webhost. it's likely that the person used his payment and contact info as the registrant and would not want to give you the super-user privilege to access it...except he allows it.

You will buy your own host, then move the files to it, if it is a database website, you will transfer your database too...

To be in total control, you also have to control the domain name. Politely try to identify the web host using the whois information. Then politely request the EPP code and inform him you want to transfer to a new host.

its simple, just ask him to initiate domain name transfer. this you will do after you have identified the Hosting company of your choice.

this is why I encourage building from ground up not using some CMD, CMS, et al., this way you can easily port to a new host irrespective of who's in charge of hosting payment.

It's in two ways bro.

1* if the hosting account is yours. I mean, you own the account. Just request for the login details from him and tell him you want to take over from him.

2. If your websites is hosted on his own hosting account. Probably all he does is to request for a fee from you and add to it to renew the account. Tell him you want to move your website to another hosting that he should grant you an access.

NB: ensure you think over it we'll before you move to away from him cos renewal fees of some Web hosting is just too outrageous considering the current exchange rate. But then you can go for a Web hosting whose renewal fee is the same as soon as sign up fee. God Bless

Your administrator must have bought you hosting on his own details..i.e contact email, Dollar account and all..he may have as well placed you on shared hosting if he has a big one that your own site can take from...

Either way, you will need his authorisation because the moment you purchase your own hosting & request for transfer of domain, the new host maybe, godaddy will send message to your former host who will in turn send epp authorisation code to your Admin contact which he must supply before you can go further! Otherwise, be ready to lose your former name which may require the slightest adjustment possible to start afresh!

If you designed your site by yourself as you have said, it means you have your files up to date with you, except maybe your database if it is a db site, So you can move anytime you wish. But, you must get the domain name information from him to be able to host your files answer else and link to the domain name.

Anyway, you most politely approach him to iron it out smoothly.

But if you don't mind changing the domain name, then headover to ur domain registrar of choice and create a new account to upload your files there. Since you said you designed the site, then it means you have access to the files.

If you still want your old domain name, wait for it to expire then be the first to register it.

Just tell the person you wanna take hold of your website so he can release the website folder to you and you can host it wherever you like or better still he should give you the login to the hosting account so you do things yourself

All you have to do is to first of all let the person know that you want to host it yourself. You must do this because he has the cPanel (if there is one) and other login details to your hosting account.

go to www.who.is and type in the website name and search. The details of the site will be printed on the screen. This is free and you can do it yourself You don't neccessary have to pay anyone.
