– Former Obasanjo’s adviser speaks with the journalists on the current Nigeria’s challenges – He explains why Nigeria needs restructuring and why the North is afraid of this – Former Obasanjo’s adviser speaks with the journalists on the current Nigeria’s challenges – He explains why Nigeria needs restructuring and why the North is afraid of this Professor ABC Nwosu, who served as political adviser to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo, has granted an interview to the Sun news explaining why the North is afraid of restructuring. Mr Nwosu was speaking on the current issues of Nigeria and the incumbent government. The former minister also argued that those kicking against restructuring are doing so because they are benefitting from the current damaged system. He said: “I am not in government, I’m not a prophet, neither am l Rev. Fr. Mbaka to see through prophecy how it can be done. All I know is that many Nigerians, good Nigerians have said, if something is not working, try to see how it can work. That’s how I see the word, restructuring. Our federation is not working. It hasn’t been working. Therefore, restructuring is the best thing that should be done now to see if it will work. But I’m baffled that a government that says Change cannot understand change, even when it comes to structures. “You said change personnel, we accepted. Nigerians have voted your change personnel. They are saying change structure. You say no way. How and why? Because the same problem is there, you need to change structure. Change structure is restructuring. Economic change is diversification. If government says it wants to diversify, it has accepted change in diversification. “The old people have been changed, what government is finding difficult is change of structure and I don’t know why? Fine, but it is going nowhere until it changes items in the Exclusive List, even in Legislative List. “We must re-examine that item 39 that says petroleum under the liquid, gas and solid are the exclusive preserve of the federal government. We must ask why we are still finding it difficult to pass the petroleum industry’s bill. These are the cob webs government has to remove. Restructuring is not going back to regions. I’m shocked at that kind of ignorance and nonsense. Who says restructuring is going back to regionalization? Prof Nwosu also served as Minister of Health under Obasanjo government. Niger Delta militant groups from the oil-rich region and pro-Biafra campaigners call for Nigeria restructuring. While some politicians, like President Muhammadu Buhari, stand firm against the restructuring, others, like former vice president Atiku Abubakar suppose that it’s not bad idea if it could save the nation.

The problem of the Nigerian state is the inability of our past visionless leaders to diversify the economy or sustain our Agricultural foundation during the oil boom. Or put in another way, saving for the rainy day. This is basically the problem of the black race. That being said, it is foolhardy to see the North as patasites, this is the worst of economic ignorance, especially when coming from people who have being in position of authority. Makes one wonder what they do over there. The northern economy in particular and Nigerian in general can be sustained on Agriculture alone, considering the arable land at their disposal not to talk of other mineral resources therein. But alas, our past leaders chose building castles in the sky which the wind of prosperity has shattered. |

Sunnymatey:anyway, south truncated the regional government and started the unitary (present federal) structure we have now. Coup plotters of 1966 sacked the Regional leaders, Aguiyi ironsi took over and established Unitary govt before the counter coup that brought Gowon, the rest is history. |

Remii:Ironsi never dissolved the regions. It was Gowon who did. And in it's place created dysfunctional non viable entities called states, with so aim of increasing North share of the Eastern region crude oil. I don't care how many times you Yorubas will be here to propagate the lies of Ironsi killing regionalism just to defend your Northern masters, but I will always be here to debunk your lies and to put you to your place, I'd do it to infinity. |

Igboid:Nigeria history has it that Ironsi introduced and ran unitary government. Let us not get into sentiment but history. Aguiyi Ironsi promulgated the infamous "Decree No. 34"—which abrogated the country's federal structure in exchange for a unitary one. |

Remii:That alright, Ironsi brought unitary govt, but why haven't you people changed back to regional govt. After killing Ironsi? |
| Re: Professor Nwosu Explains Why North Is Afraid Of Restructuring by Igboid: 8:02pm On Sep 16, 2016 |
Remii:Military dictators run central government. Ironsi United the civil service amongst other things. But left the regions intact. If Gowon out of greed didn't dissolve the regions to enable him create more dysfunctional entities up North called States. The country would have easily gone back to its regional default settings after Mutala was ousted in 1976. The initial poster rightly put the blame of killing the regions on Gowon, you Remi as a real Yoruba man, had to come in to exonerate your Northern master, free of charge without compulsion, I guess it's a reflex reaction to you lots. The reward of putting the blame on an Igbo man, Ironsi that was murdered within 6 months was irresistible to you. I'm here to ensure you don't get that reward. |
