Henry240: No need to get your knickers in a twist. Denel merely has the contract to maintain ALL Hercs and ALL Airbus products on the African continent. Would think you'd approve when militaries in Africa no longer have to fly their aircraft to Europe for maintenance. For Nigeria for example, Denel is recruiting people to do the job in-country. Better, no? PICS: Denel job ads for NAF Herc C-130s and Puma helis, for contracts that started in June 2014. P.S. Denel also landed the contract with Russian helis. And yes, African militaries will be saving money by no longer flying aircraft elsewhere. Denel technicians come and base in-country so skills can be developed in-country. Why would this be a problem?

frumentius: You're the one seeing a problem. I definitely am not seeing any. My comments are based on the information i had. We also don't fly our aircrafts out for PDM, they are all done in-country. That's not the information currently available to us. Hence i'll have to wait for clarification from the NAF. According to the Data i have, it doesn't correlate with what you've presented. You don't suppose i'll just agree, do you? ....And here is the NAF on it's Helicopter Maintenance facility in Minna, Niger state. https://www.naij.com/693182-nigerian-air-force-builds-helicopter-hangar-minna.html And here is a joint report talking about both the C-130 and Helicopter maintenance. He said the helicopter PDM will take care of servicing all helicopters of the NAF instead of flying them abroad for maintenance or bringing in expatriates to fix them, as was obtainable in the past. www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/08/31/nigerian-air-force-establishes-first-indigenous-helicopter-maintenance-centre/ |

Seeking clarification doesn't equate to conflict, it shouldn't mean it either. It's just what it is, "clarification". @Frumentius |

andrewza: I guess not that simple, they may want to by TOT but knowning this could be interupt by USA, instead they say buying 1. China do have similar technology ,this concept was first created by german scientist in1950s.SA has the leading tech in this field. How or whether the data was stolen by China.I don't know ,but I know the technology is still not mature in China. And SA closed the reactor aleady around 2010. |

If this is real the Chinese really worthy hatred.I cannot make judgement based on my knownledge.because this type of news if appears in USA,most people have no reaction just like there are alien reports on their media. They take it for granted or ignore.unless CNN or Washington post,New Yourk Times ,or other open source main strain media comfims . is this only insider knows or well known so that everybody in your country think Chinese are thief ? like what German people think about *** in 1930s? |

Henry240:Mr Henry this does look like a recent picture, if so this must be a follow-up that the CAS paid for a visit to the Lockheed HQ early this year.I would find it hard to believe that anything other than an American company would be allowed to buy spare parts and then work on the C-130s. Thanks for showing the NAF 913.,it was one of the Birds I was missing. Can someone help me out with the last one? |

frumentius: You are mistaken. There is no evidence of any Denel contract with the NAF. The Air Force themselves proves this. The comments from the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), NAF Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Sani Ahmed is quite clear and explicit. I'm not quoting a media report. I have no problem with Denel. |

Henry240: You really can be obtuse at times. Which part of this do you not understand? Denel Aviation is the appointed MRO contractor for ALL Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft in Africa. Of course the NAF does its own work, but there are things for which you need the OEM. And previously you guys had to fly your Hercs to Europe to get this done. So yes, technically there's no contract between Denel and the NAF. But there's one between the NAF and the OEM, Lockheed, represented by Denel, for all major milestones in the life of these craft. We have 60 years experience on the C-130 and that's why Lockheed entrusted us with MRO on their products in the African continent. Same as Airbus with all Pumas - civilian and military - in Africa. All those Russkies and Eastern Europeans tinkering with Hinds all over Africa? Watch them either getting employed by Denel or slowly getting replaced by SA technicians. Nothing to do with national pride or capabilities. Just the manufacturer deciding these are piddly contracts, Denel Aviation can do the job and is hungry. So, dear Henry, unclench those butt cheeks. 3 Likes
