Because of this sh*t I actually checked the list out. . . there were Yorubas, but like maybe one in every 200 names. As the op said, I have no problem with that as long as its on merit. You're spot on. Most Yoruba people I know also don't like sending their children to the east. I'd have gone to UNIBEN but my pops didn't let me. . . so you're right about that. But thats not what some commenters are trying to say. I'm sure the op is a reasonable person, but you can't deny the existence of some e-warriors who jump at every opportunity to claim marginalization and oppression. When it favors them, they're able to use their brains properly and understand that its based on merit, but once it doesn't, they're quick to scream marginalization. An example was with the president's appointments (which I'm not completely pleased with, but that's not the point). The president chose people who HE THOUGHT were the best people for the job, based on merit, and some of those e-rats started screaming marginalization, asking if there were not more competent easterners. But they failed to ask the same questions about our National football squad, or any other area where they were a majority. The former opening post/thread abut this UNN thing was full of tribalism, which is why I didn't leave a comment. As I said, I believe the op of this post is reasonable enough to read through my comment and understand the point some people are driving at. |

You're just a complete bigot, you hate the igbos so much but guess what,we will keep soaring while you continue nursing your woundst. Whose fault is it that your brothers were not intelligent enougH to make it to the merit list or whose fault was it that your brothers didn't play well enough to be taken for Nations cup. Nzeokafor:Who told you theirs are the best universities? The creme de LA creme of Nigeria's technocrats are made in UNN. And post graduation, nothing proves their products are better than any region's. UNN, FUTO, UNIZIK, MOUAU are some of the best in the country in terms of academics . Igbos are in unilag just as they are in other parts of the country |

xender:Yoruba people are plenty in the East, it's not anybody's fault they don't participate in eastern politics, markets, or constitute a significant portion of the eastern academia. It's just like thinking hausa people are not in the East cos you don't see then in eastern unis |

AnonyNymous:You analysis is absolutely flawed and childish.. Buhari is the President of Nigeria and is expected by the Constitution, federal character and democracy to run an inclusive Government, hence appointing individuals from all the regions, this he crazily didn't do.. Football game is a totally different issue, football is based on talents, coach tactics, preferences etc.. A Football team has nothing to do with democracy or federal character. For example, America's Olympic basketball team is made up of ONLY blacks no SINGLE white or Latino. Spanish football team during World Cup the won SA 2010 was made up of 90% players from Real Madrid and Barcelona (there are over 40 clubs in Spain, and over 200 professional Footballers) Don't ever bring politics and football tactics/selection on the same page, that would make you sound like a staunch illiterate. Even the current Super Eagles team lead by Rohr Gott, doesn't have more than 2 Yoruba born players in the first 11. Antonio Martial is a great player, but was benched in France almost throughout the just concluded EURO cup. Simply because the Coach may not believe in him or has a better idea... Let's be more logical here, kindly name any Yoruba Born football players that should be in the Super Eagles and are not??. Also name who the should replace. BTW, the Igbo players (according to you) that Late Keshi took to South Africa ended up winning the Afcon People like you are the main problem of the unity of Nigeria, you bring bigotry and tribalism into everything. I believe in merit and talents over tribe. That's why I can have Banky w and Olamide's songs on my tablet |

Mcowubaba:What a nice way to introduce yourself. Buhari is the President of Nigeria and is expected by the Constitution, federal character and democracy to run an inclusive Government, hence appointing individuals from all the regions, this he crazily didn't do..Buhari is expected to appoint whoever he deems the most qualified. Which is his personal decision, in his position as president. Before recently, most US presidents had cabinets of mostly white men, people they knew, despite the united states being even more diverse than Nigeria. Football game is a totally different issue, football is based on talents, coach tactics, preferences etc..Likewise, the President's choice of advisers, ministers, etc are based on their capabilities, experience, personal preference i.e his ability to work with them, etc. President Buhari's cabinet is not made up of only Northerners, there are enough southerners there too, but I can only attribute the prescence of more Northerners to the fact that they are people he has known over the years, and interacted with. People he has previously spent time with, and he feels work would go smoothly with them. A Football team has nothing to do with democracy or federal character.Haha, there is politics in the locker room as well. I stopped watching football actively about two years ago, but I can still strongly remember the dressing room fiasco that occured when Villas-Boas was the coach of Chelsea. Choosing players in a team also involves the coach's ability to work with them . . . or are you a stranger to the fact that Mourinho sells players that he feels he can't work with? Or Balotelli leaving City because of his behavior? Don't ever bring politics and football tactics/selection on the same page, that would make you sound like a staunch illiterate.Yes sir. Mr. educated. Even the current Super Eagles team lead by Rohr Gott, doesn't have more than 2 Yoruba born players in the first 11.With that, are you trying to say there isn't some Ogunbadejo in the streets of Mushin that can play ball better than Okocha? But what will you say to that? "He hasn't been discovered". If you don't expect a coach to go to the ends of the earth to find Yoruba players not because of talent, but because he's looking to balance the tribes out, then I don't expect you to ask the same of a President who was under immense pressure to clean up the mess he met when he was elected. Antonio Martial is a great player, but was benched in France almost throughout the just concluded EURO cup.You just buttressed my points with this last one. . . President Buhari didn't choose Pat Utomi as finance minister, because he didn't believe in him, and/or had a better idea (not sure if his idea was better, but that's not the point) BTW, the Igbo players (according to you) that Late Keshi took to South Africa ended up winning the AfconWhich is wonderful! I don't recognise them as Igbos first, they are Nigerians. If only the e-warriors could also recognise the ministers and aides as Nigerians first, they would not be crying that they're oppressed. I strongly disagree with the op of the thread that led to this counter thread, but the point I'm making is that NOBODY IS OUT TO GET THE IGBOS. People are accommodating, and when you even see an Igbo man abroad, the first thing you feel is joy in your heart for meeting a fellow Nigerian in a foreign land. People like you are the main problem of the unity of Nigeria, you bring bigotry and tribalism into everything.c'mon don't add this nonsense fallacy. . . so because you have Banky W and Olamide, we should clap for you? Or do you think I'm a Northerner, which is the reason why I'm in support of the ministerial list? Did I mention anywhere that I'm a Northerner? Please behave yourself o. You people should learn to stop screaming marginalization and oppression for every little thing. There's no monster out to oppress you people, all everyone wants is a successful Nigeria. |

Drchristian:I'm surprised at how u think. First its not because of tribalism dat oni of ife is the pro-chancellor of UNN, should incase u are not well informed, the pro-chancellor of any federal University is supposed to be from a tribe different from the tribe of the people in the universityz location. For example Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe (Anambra) is the pro-chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Emir of Kano Alh Muhammadu Sanusi II (Kano), is the pro-chancellor University of Benin. Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar (Sokoto) is the pro - chancellor University of Ibadan. Shehu of Borno, Mustapha Umar El-Kanemi (Borno) is the pro - chancellor University of Lagos. Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar (Niger), is the pro - chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Do u feel its because of tribalism dat the pro-chancellor of UNN is from a different tribe? If yes, then check the last 3 state in my list, they are yoruba universities with a northerner as pro-chancellor just like UNN, now judging with ur low IQ analysis, UI, UNILAG and OAU were tribalistic. SHM tribalism has taken some people's brain Their is nothing in linda ikejis blog to prov ur point.... And pls dont post her site here on nairaland again. Thanks one luv. |

Nzeokafor:don't preach to me.. preach to your brothers. Whenever things favour them,it's merit and its because they are better than others as it is shown here on the same thread which you ignore. One Ediot even said, my brothers are dumb that's why they couldn't make merit list, you didn't go around preaching to him, but quoting me up and down. Well your people are not anywhere close to my people.. they are just inconsequential 5% that loves to make a lot of noise. Another minority in scheme of things. Now, gtfo my mentions. |

Drchristian:my brother take am easy, no be fight...i'm a student of UNN and I know how things are done there, if u ask 100 yoruba students that are writing jamb the name of the school they applied to, I bet u only 3 of them might have applied to UNN and virtually none of them have heard of the school UNN. Most yoruba students always go for their popular, UNILAG, IFE, UI, OOU etc. Cos they have so many institutions in the west to make choices from. I have just yoruba student in my class, and he might not have done better than his igbo counterparts but he was offered the admission without stress. Proud Lion |
