Does anybody here use rice bran( rice chaff) for catfish feed production and if so what percentage should it make up in feed production.
Is it advisable to use it in feed production or just use maize.

For hatchlngs of 6 days and above you will need to treat for fungal infections. This is what kills fries most at such tender age. Use of aqua blue is very effective. 2ml of aqua blue to 100 liters of vat water while doing a flow through at about 4litres per minute is fine. You continue this till day 13.
There is a different regiment of treatment for day 1 to day 6.

If you have access to it , why not make use of it.
But make sure you disinfect it well before feeding your fish with it.
Its an added protein for the fish..

Afternoon all. ive been following this page diligently for two weeks now, making notes and writing contacts and everything i can learn. Am a teacher by profession but an accountant by training. One of my passions has always been agric. Having read all the gurus in the house, ill like to try fish farming in 200litre drums as an experiment with my students in school, with the hope of harvesting by December or February during our cultural day. I and my students have decided today to use drums or construct a tarpaulin pond. We tried doing further research on agricnetwork site but the didn't open up. Pls we need help on how to get good shooters for our school farm. We will also want to go on excursion to any reputable fish farm. I want to really impact practical knowledge and know how on my students. gurus in the house like robonski abeg make una help.

You can mention your location
At least if three is any good farm around there, people can refer you to the place.
Another thing 200 litre for fish is not going to work. The least you need 1000 litres that can accommodate 100 fish at most.
Or you opt for the tarpaulin that you mentioned. You can build it to accommate the number if fish you want.

@ ayosat. Its a pet project and an experiment in a private school. And not profit motivated. Its just an avenue to see fishery in practice. I will rather be cautious while still learning. Moreso we have little space and limited security. And the students are funding the farm, not the school management. The cost of the 1000litre industrial tank is much, but we can afford 3drums and a mini tarpolin tank. The school is around lawanson surulere. Any help from anyone will be very much appreciated. It depends on the moisture content in the feed. I will advice you make what your stock can consume in less than 2 weeks.......
- Ensure the bags containing the feeds are opened up and not tied.
- Regular inspection of the feeds beneath the surface is essential, do this by emptying the sack into a big bucket to check for growth of mold
- Occasional sun drying can prolong the shelf life of locally pelletized feed.

Please has anybody heard of using methylated spirit to flush water containing fries while in the hatchery vat, as a method of preventing fungal/ bacterial infection.
