I'm pround to be a great MICROBIOLOGIST and I'm sure great future holds for me BUT I want advice, ideas and experience FOR me, undergraduate, IT student fresh graduate, nysc intern and working microbiologist FROM experienced
, trained ,unselfish, undergraduate guru, IT guru , nysc guru on the way forward to easily secure jobs in dis present days of ours..what do we need? What experience? What training ? What program ? Which sector/field? Hardship during job? Boosting of salary? Being great? Highest level? What next?

microbiology....... a wasted effort in Nigeria. not to make anyone feel bad but that's the fact. we thought we could fit in most places but truth is out there, we belong almost nowhere in particular.

my advice after school, it's either you get a life outside microbiology or go for MSc so you'd become a lecturer and train more microbiologist into this facade of a life.

I read microbiology tho and I know what I'm saying

Microb let's be focused on your initial question. MMicrobiologists have versatile opportunities to work in food, industrial, environmental, medical, pharmaceutical or oil and gas sector. The opportunity to also successfully work as an entrepreneur is amazingly impressive. The challenge is with the individual.....not being prepared for the future by our pre-entry counselor s/advisers. I am willing to advise or counsel anyone with genuine interest secure a better position in the future concerning microbiology.

U people went to study. Micro biology. Small biology.

This actually what dey told me when I was applying for Microbiology. But Economically I think industrial Chemistry is better.

You just said the fact. Microbiology in Nigeria has no place in terms of job prospects/ juicy career.
Despite the vastness of the course as well as its application in everyday life from agriculture, food, medicine, research, environment, e.t.c. , the Nigerian microbiology graduate has basically nowhere to cling to. His problem is compounded by the fact that he is half-baked with no thorough practical knowledge. He is loaded with outdated theoretical knowledge which is almost irrelevant in the workplace. Most of the positions a microbiology graduate can occupy or apply for have been hijacked and restricted to only certain disciplines all in the name of academic associations.
This I blame on all self-acclaimed professors and microbiology big-wigs of Nigerian origin. They have simply failed to explore, innovate and bring to the fore new discovery that will make the course relevant in the country and internationally. All they do is cram ( just like their students) and then plagiarize other peoples work to earn academic titles which doesn't help anybody. As it is now, the only job prospects of a Nigerian microbiology graduate is lecturing. This you can't get if you are not connected to those who have stakes in the corridors of power.

Microbiology? That course is very tough in UNN. Most students in MCB always look frustrated.

I think micro biology students should start personal studies on nano technology. Cause I have a feeling this course will be overtaken with nano biology....

Advice....microbiology shld b scrapped as a course in nigeria.cos out of evry 10 graduate of microbiolgy,only one or two has a career path in d course,odas work outside d field,eida as a banker,sec sch teacher,self employed(biz owners) etc
