Re: Why Did You Stop Going To Church? by Nobody: 3:41pm On Oct 09, 2016
Going to church daily doesnt guarantee u heaven, its in d Bible 'many will say Lord Lord i cast out demons in your name bt he will reply i dont Knw u.. Nw who will go to heaven, He said only those who do the will of my Father and whats the will of God (the 10 commandments, love ur neighbour as urself, pray for ur enemies, the beatitudes e.t.c).. Even in the ancient times they attend the synagogue to listen to the teachings of God. So i will say its good to attend Church, read ur bible daily ask God for understanding, wisdom and knowledge, pay ur tithe, live a holy and Christ like life and most importantly seek after God's heart and nt man's religion... Cuz division in religion is causing great harm dan good

Going to church to pray on Sundays is rude. undecided

The bible says in Genesis 2:2 "By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work."

Why pray on a day when god is resting. No wonder people's prayers never get answered. That is because god is on holiday and the office for answering prayers is empty. grin

It is better to pray on Monday because that is a working day and god and his angels will be at the office cheesy

People really need to read their bibles tongue

7th day is saturday.. Olodo

Personally, I am at a crossroad. First, I grew up attending our 'traditional' church, all this language churches. My grandfather attended, my parents are attending and we too must attend. But I had to sit down and ask myself about my spiritual life, and I realized I don't have any. Truth be told, sometimes, attending that church leaves you more angry. And when you are not in church on Sundays, Mom would want to kill you with calls. Now though, I just stay indoors and pretend I'm ill. And thank God she hasn't decided to visit my house one of these Sundays.

Secondly, I am starting to totally lose faith in religion. I am not one of those who claim the non-existence of God. I know God exists. My problem is I am starting to think the mode of worshiping him shouldn't be as a Christian who goes to church and a Muslim who goes to mosque. Sometimes, I even believe the Muslims have a better way of worshiping him. Forget the religious fanatics, I have read the Quran and I can authoritatively say that the Bible contains too many inaccuracies compared to the Quran.

That being said, religion has created too many problems in the world than we care to admit. Maybe we would have been better off worshiping God the way we deem fit than having so many religious groups complicating our lives.

The devil is at his game. Beware!
The thief comes to steal, to kill and to destroy.
Many religions, many denominations but only one denominator and that is CHRIST.
An encounter with the Lord is what makes the difference.
You have not gotten Him, and you will get Him when you look for Him with all your heart.
What we all are looking for is the truth mind you it's real, and that is JESUS all other sand are sinking sand. Don't mind the Pastors or any religious leaders but mind yourself, because the devil is real and has a mission to destroy YOU. If you say I am wrong you could as well say there is no God. I rest my case.

It's no news that many of us Christians are fast losing our religion, a Sunday is just like any other day in our calender. What really Is the reason for this? And what could make you start going to church again.

Sick and tired of being bled dry of time, money and other resources only to see same being suspiciously appropriated for strange ends; sick and tired of being manipulated and the social activities passing off for worship; sick and tired of the being treated as mental and emotional children who can never think for themselves; sick and tired of the increasing distinction and different levels in the ‘house of God’ which neglects the less articulate and less privileged members otherwise known as the poor; sick and tired of the iniquities, social and psychological coercion in the name of worshipping God; sick and tired of the unaccountability and cover-ups; sick and tired of being monitored ceaselessly; sick and tired of being subtly compelled to fund empty projects of dubious relevance.

Sick and tired of these God-men using that "slow deep calming voice" that a certain category of people like to use in order to sound "real deep and sincere"; sick and tired of shallow anecdotal musings whose verity cannot be confirmed; sick and tired of the constant guidelines for conducting effective meetings and outreaches without any reference to God or the direction of the Holy Spirit; sick and tired of the double standards for the physically wealthy and the physically poor; sick and tired of not seeing practical love in action despite being mouthed at every opportunity by the religious leaders; sick and tired of the false teachings under the guises of ‘higher’ and ‘fresher’ and ‘purer’ anointing; sick and tired of the creeping elitism culture being surreptitiously introduced and encouraged by gullible leadership; sick and tired of listening indulgently every Sunday to the same repetitive prayers and not seeing these prayers answered; sick and tired of not seeing biblical principles obeyed and honoured; sick and tired of being drained emotionally, financially and spiritually; sick and tired of paying lip services to and the mouthing of platitudes by an ignorant clergy class who would never tire of plumbing the depths of silliness every opportunity it has when mounting the pulpits.

Sick and tired of being cajoled into supporting and funding useless building projects when I know that God does no longer dwell in houses made by hands; sick and tired of even seeing pulpits and those selected to mount them; sick and tired of the never ending glitz and hype; sick and tired of the pervasive crass and blatant materialism; sick and tired of being the first to break in new hotels by holding back to back powerful services and bringing into the country new foreign speakers; sick and tired of ever learning and never applying the ‘wonderful’ teachings; sick and tired of always learning about the kingdom and not once experiencing it in the gatherings; sick and tired of being shepherded by insensitive paid employees and volunteers.

Sick and tired of being manipulated into volunteering for what is felt to be absolute absurdity; sick and tired of the ceaseless but expensive/costly barrage of advertisement on the print and electronic media promoting church programmes, pastors and their wives except the blessed Lord Jesus and His glorious gospel; sick and tired of being told to stand up, rise up to their feet, raise and wave their hands and worship (what do we call worship? How do you worship?

Is it a strange concept to just want to thank God, appreciate Him for the gift of life without any inducement such as breakthroughs, deliverances, blessings, et.c. how come is it not permissible in churches to allow members who are in church to just quietly sit in His Presence and bask in the Awareness with the attendant joy and peace without being bombarded with angry/hostile instructions on how to open wide one’s mouth and pray?); sick and tired of partnering whatever catches the headquarter’s or pastor’s fancy but lacking true vision at the moment; sick and tired of mystical and fraudulent theology; sick and tired of accepting the rot in the lives of those who pretend to be showing the way to God; sick and tired of those pastors and religious leaders who boast of gifts that are obviously lacking in their lives; sick and tired of the sexual scandals that are being covered up; sick and tired of the various forms of idolatry, pastolatry and churchianity instead of the true worship of the Saviour in spirit and in truth.

Sick and tired of subtle but mindless inter-denominational competition; sick and tired of learning the secrets of money and wealth; sick and tired of prosperity preachings that do not prosper the audience as well as the preacher; sick and tired of not seeing the promised breakthroughs despite fulfilling the pastoral directions; sick and tired of the constant entertainment and false excitement; sick and tired of the body wracking, mind blowing and emotion sapping empty activities meant to keep them busy and not think deeply of what they are really doing in the enterprise; sick and tired of the useless songs being rendered by the uninspired choir.

Sick and tired of the covetousness and greed; sick and tired of being forced to attend activities lacking promised spiritual nourishment that they would normally and happily give a miss; sick and tired of not experiencing the real fire of the Holy Spirit while the faith that sustained them thus far was in the danger of slipping away or being doused with human failings or worse being systematically transformed into accepting that maybe all of those things recorded in the Word of God may not be real after all. Finally, sick and tired of being sick and tired.

I agree with this part of your post, whole heartedly...and the bit about going to church leaving you angry. Sometimes I feel same way. At times church preachings just crack me up. Especially when the preachers mouth off things that we cannot relate to, being Africans and really "heathen" in spirit...or when they tell you how their places of worship are just the only way, and more divisive stuff etc! cheesy At least nobody gets beheaded lipsrsealed, so little mercy. (I have to mock your preference a bit cheesy)
Seriously, a whole loot of times the teachings are profound, and real.....BUT, big but I mean... so are the teachings from other religions...and Odinani, and Ifa...I dunno what the Hausa' natural (true) way of practice is called...not ignoring the many many tribes that this country has too.

All societies from time immemorial have been seeking ways to connect to Him....that is proof of something great surely....then some had to politicalise their beliefs and tried to use these to rule/conquer their worlds around them, successfully I must admit...labelling other beliefs as wrong and theirs as salvation. We know the story and how that has left us, the saved lipsrsealed
God is more than any one people or group to claim as solely theirs....doing that is unnatural, to use the kindest(ish) word I can think of now

The God experience is why we have our conscience, souls and spirits, not places of worship, or religions
I still say Christian when asked in polls even though I rarely go to church...I was born one, and dont know the ways of Odinani/Omenani at all, cos now they are "heathen" undecided and not practiced anymore in full...actually when Africans are Christians or the others...what they do is syncretise teachings of the borrowed religions with their natural, old ways of worship or belief. So I (most, if not all of us are)am a syncretic, if I may coin that word cheesy. Will look out for that option when filling forms, " other " does not fully cut it for me

The teachings around and because of The Golden Rule are words of life cool. That, to me is untouched pure Love and God...almost any other thing is politics and economics. I love the rule and believe in it, and also believe in the Igbo moral code of, live and let live (also Love based, also Godly. I see God in Nature and I agree with many New Age philosophies of God, emphasising love, gratitude and seeing the good ....well, these have always been there in our consciousness but now given a label of new age. And I feel connected with God, so you see? He is everywhere, and mostly inside of us. When we have love, we have God...and can touch Him, and can live for Him....and can be happy and free and alive at the same time

(I feel I sound mad...but will post it anyway shocked cheesy, cos I mean it...my truth)
Cheers
