Which kin country be this?

Accused of stealing 460k, and yet told to pay 500k, if she has the 500k, will she steal ni.

Most Nigerians get it all wrong when it comes to Issue of Bail. she's not paying anybody that money, they only wanna see a surety who has up to that amount in his/her account in case the culprit abscond. then such money will now be accessible but once she is discharged and acquitted, she takes the money back to her surety.

Ever heard of kleptos? Plus some pple steal not because they dnt have but because they want to have more or because of covetousness.
Yes,i know them but you don't get the point

Y on Earth should the bail be more than the stolen money. It doesn't make sense. It should be less. Say 100k. That money z damn too much as bail. is just like saying a company catches fire and the insurance decides to pay and save the company from going into extinction. Will they pay more than the value of the company? ?

Definitely no. Rather they pay less undecided

The mother of one was standing trial on a one count charge of theft of the sum of N460,000 with a friend, Christopher Ibok. She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. She was thereafter ordered to be remanded in prison till she meets her bail condition of N500,000

Now, I think I will suggest one of my friends opinions in regards to the DSS Invasion of some judges in Nigeria.. according to the above quote, so she was given a bail of 500,000 for an offence of 460,000 fraud, theft, robbery, WB that mean's if a politician is caught stealing 1 billion naira then they should get 1billion to 1.2 billion as bail before been released?

So many loopholes in the tale. Was the money chilling somewhere when it was stolen? undecided

So she needs extra 40k to add to the supposed stolen money to bail herself.

Yes I get it. Whether she is running away or not. Her surety should understand what she/he is falling into and is she the person she can stand for. If she is, why should the bail be unnecessarily high

But then not her, it's her surety that pays if she abscond

Just that the damn money is too much

she's still innocent until proven guilty. Secondly, the 500k is on bond, her surtee will only pay that if she eventually jump bail(abscond).
Does it mean the money will be returned if she doesn't jump bail?

Exactly this is what am saying. 460k got stolen /missing and she is told to pay 40k extra to get herself bailed.

While some useless rulers steals billion n told to pay million. It really absurd

Chairman you are no different from those Judges arrested by the DSS, someone was accused of stealing N460,000 and to meet N500,000 bail haba! make una fear God o wen politicians steal billions they are ask to pay insignificant amount as bail conditions.
Please just spare us the law interpretation abeg!!
Re: Joy Anyim Remanded In Prison For Theft Charges by prinsam30: 10:28am On Oct 13, 2016
how someone stole 460K and made to bail herself with 500K this is not making any sense at all.

If a politician steal 500Million he will be asked to bail himself with 20Million

no wonder the DSS are breaking in to their houses on corruption cases

what kind of country is this honestly

"I am not understanding"

abeg who get that picture make him help me summarize my comment

No money is being deposited, the surety would only have to provide the bail sum if eventually the accused jumps bail and you as a surety is unable to provide the accused. Before a bail is perfected in court, the prosecutor usually goes for verification of the surety's residential address and business address.

You seemingly know nothing About law, why thou lamenting? The judge has been convinced of being truly committed the offence levied against her but not to the fullest, therefore a penalty that will be melted against her will be the one she will not be able to entertain till the judge will be convince totally without reasonable doubt. My advice looks before you leap

Guess you are the illiterate here. Bail bond is not money that you are required to pay...it's kind of a covenant wherein you swear that you or your surety will pay the stated sum if you jump bail or fail to present yourself whenever you are needed for your trial. You don't pay unless you jump bail.

Thanks for the explanation. So, the surety only has to show that he has the money and not that he will pay any money......that is if the accused doesn't abscond?

She need not pay the money unless she jumps bail. There are other bail conditions to be made which the op did not state like surety, payment of tax, etc .
