I am trying to do a small survey on the use of PHP CMS/Frameworks by developers in the house.
Please let us try to show maturity and reduce insults.

I have used many, but the top on my list (in no particular) are:
- drupal (i am an expert with all versions of drupal, past and present, can build themes or any extension from the scratch, can extend almost any drupal functionality be it core or third party - i know drupal like the back of my hand). And drupal is a content management framework - can be used as a cms or framework if you know what you are doing. I even helped voguepay to build some drupal modules, although for some odd reasons the integration i made for drupal 7 was not published.

- oxwall (after drupal oxwall from oxwall.org would be the next area i am highly skilled although i will rate myself as very good but not EXPERT - it tops my list for making a social network)

- Joomla (I used to be very good with Joomla but after 1.5, i have not done anything in joomla and my skills are deprecated)

- wordpress (if i were to rate myself here, i will give myself a 2/10 star rating, that is poor right)

- serendipity (rather like wordpress, but i have higher ratings here lets say 6/10 but i only use it for blogs - it tops my list for making blogs)

- magento (a very remarkable cms, i have built a few plugins in it, in my opinion, it is very good for building an online store)

- codigniter (a very remarkable framework, i can do well, anything with this one)

- laravel (i will say more remarkable than codigniter, but unfortunately, i have not done any real work with this one)

I rest my pen at this point.

For CMS, sadly just WordPress

For Framework well, CakePHP... but I don't really like it again.

I'm considering migrating to CodeIgniter or Laravel and I'll need advice on this

CakePHP used to be on my list, but it is very slow in terms of performance. I will advise you to move to laravel, it is better than CI.

The only thing I like about Laravel is that it has a template system.... I've not really looked into code igniter

cakePHP is slow in terms of performance. codigniter and laravel are frameworks like cakephp and can do similar stuffs, but laravel is the most sophisticated of all that 3 - from my own point of view

It really beats me why people bother knowing all these CMS. I have used Joomla and Drupal (was a bit confusing) in the past but since i met wordpress, i haven't looked back. As long as Wordpress can achieve what i want, it will be my only CMS.

For a CMS, it's WordPress all the way for me.
Ever since I started using codeigniter, I have never had any reason to regret or look back. Even though I get bashed for using an old school framework by some people, it doesn't look like I'll change it anytime soon. So far so good, codeigniter serves me well

Ehm...Ehm..Ehm.
CMS:
1) Drupal: Customization, Custom Theme and Module Development (I got introduced to this beast Framework in 2012 when I interned with an Open source envagelist firm, we deployed an open source school software with Drupal and release it as open source)
2) WordPress: Customization, Custom Theme and Module Development (I can't remember how long I have been using this Engine, but I have developed countless plugins and themes for it, in fact I'm working on a custom theme for a woocommerce site)
FrameWorks:
1) CakePHP: I did say I have a master degree in cakephp from version 2-3, I'v developed more than 10 project with it the past 11 months and still using it to developed a solution for someone.
2) Laravel 4&5 : I abandoned this guy last year due to digression of Cakephp undecided I moved to this Laravel 4 after dumping CodeIgniter did some minor project in team job. Will go back to it in projects I'll be doing alone.
3) CodeIgniter My first PHP framework simple and elegant but too simple to meet my taste of framework left it for Laravel in 2013 (May not go Back it again dunno sha!!!)

I used to believe that before learning Laravel, but now I use more of CakePHP dunno why

For me, it's just laravel/lumen and WordPress.
Re: What PHP Cms/framework Do You Use And Why? by Nobody: 9:18am On Oct 17, 2016
This is getting more interesting.
Hmn, I have not used lumen yet.

Of all those CMSes, drupal is the most complicated one - because it has a very slow learning curve. If you have never used it before and you install it, you will be quite helpless for awhile and may not be able to come up with a decent thing.

Drupal can be intimidating for beginners, but the effort in learning it worth it grin

hello sir, I read from ur Nairaland blog the 1 u were comparing the 3 php frameworks and u said that codeigniter is good and can be used to code small projects.

So true, I can totally relate to this. I tried learning drupal in my first attempt at CMSs, I had lots of headaches everyday and had to dump it at last. Learning WordPress some 6 months later gave me a better insight and understanding of drupal, but I don't think I'll be touching that in a very long time, probably never going to.

codeigniter can handle any type of project small or large, but if you are to chose between learning codeigniter and laravel, please go for laravel. But if you do not feel comfortable with laravel, then use CI. Laravel might be more difficult to learn and setup, but it will help you in the long run.

The best PHP framework so far in terms of performance and scalability are Phalcon and Laravel, no PHP framework can ever try to beat these two.

Phalcon - Speed, Performance and Scalability.
Laravel - Performance, Security.

I have used these two, I can testify.
Re: What PHP Cms/framework Do You Use And Why? by Nobody: 8:18pm On Oct 17, 2016
I have not used phalcon, but based on reviews that i have read - i completely agree.

I found Laravel to be pretty easy for me. It follows the pattern of ASP.NET MVC.

You just need to understand it's MVC structure.
M - Model - for database migration
V - View - Where you write your HTML view, you can perform some programming logic with it blade templating engine, just like ASP.NET Razor template.
C - Controller - You can perform your business, application logic here. You can write codes that can do stuffs on your sites here.

Laravel 5.3 is the sweetest version so far. It is very similar to ASP.NET Core. In it you can separate your web session and your stateless API. Meaning, You can build a web platform and an API in one project.
Re: What PHP Cms/framework Do You Use And Why? by Nobody: 11:19pm On Oct 17, 2016
Yeah, the same goes for codigniter, the only difference is that Laravel will provide you with more functionalities by default - but you will have to code those same things in codigniter.

For simple stuff I use Yii (or even CodeIgniter) and for more complex projects I use Laravel. Yii has really nice set of generators so you can generate models quickly and make something really quickly... CodeIgniter is easy to deploy on shared hosting and Laravel is really advanced and powerful framework... I enjoy learning it on LaraCasts.

Is it difficult to deploy a Laravel Project on Shared Hosting ?

FincoApps:

It is very easy bro.

Follow this steps:

1. Set up your environment variables in your .env file to match your ftp details.
2. Upload your project to server, you might encounter some error, but most errors are because we forget to generate our unique key for our project before we upload. Generate it on localhost, then copy and paste in your .env file or in config/app.php in the server.
3 Export your table from localhost and import in your server.
4. Write an .htacess file that will point to your public folder in Laravel.

And that's it, you Laravel should work fine on server.

For Phalcon you will need a VPS or dedication server because, you have to install a PHP binary file, for it to work.

Yeah like that, but that .htaccess tends to have different behaviours on different servers (but on most linux servers, it will behave in exactly the way it does on localhost)
