Oga take am easy nah, even in the USA there is nothing like residency training for nurses.....

They do their masters and doctorate and become nurse practitioners.....

So why all this bragging....

Are you "whyning" me?! USA nurses obtain MSN and Ph.D to become nurse practitioners? Your ignorance of nursing education is advanced. Silence is better than misinformation bro. Imagine how easy it's to diagnose a patient that offers wrong info.

I tried to tame my urges to quote your unguarded posts and replies to people's posts from various threads since yesterday because I knew it as your habit right from school but I must raise a rejoinder to d above assumption, speculation and misconception of yours.
Why not seek the right info about nursing education both in Nigeria and abroad or better still watch while d topic is being discussed
Peace.

I now know why some peeps are angry on the group! they were denied admission to study medicine. some of these fellas may even have Dr in front of their Monicker. congratulations to the nurses. in real life nobody really care what nurses have as long as they don't snatch a scalpel from a surgeon during surgery. we should all know our limit, lobatan.

Bro why are you embarrassing yourself.....

Nurse practitioners are registered nurses (RNs) with advanced degrees and training, enabling them to work with a specialized population of patients (e.g., children, adults, elderly) or in a niche field (e.g., acute care, family, mental health). To help these nurses get the specialized training they need, there are a variety of nurse practitioner (NP) degree programs, including master’s of science in nursing (MSN) and doctor of nursing practice (DNP) programs, as well as post-master’s NP certificates.

Here is another one:

Nurse practitioners get advanced training in nursing so they can take their careers a step farther. By getting graduate-level education, they can operate independently or under the supervision of a physician. Many are hired by hospitals or doctor’s offices to provide support and services to an individual physician or team of doctors. A nurse practitioner begins as a registered nurse (RN) and then moves on to get a master’s and sometimes a doctoral degree. Prospective NPs need to consider what type of specialty most interests them and in what type of organization or setting they want to work. Use this guide to learn more about nurse practitioner careers, degrees, salaries and industry trends.Search Nurse Practitioner Degree Programs WHAT DOES A NURSE PRACTITIONER DO?
NURSE PRACTITIONER CAREER BASICS
Nurse practitioners (NPs) are a type of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) whose specialized education and clinical training allow them to provide higher levels of care and perform a variety of tasks that RNs are not licensed to do. Nurse practitioners often focus on specific areas or populations, including pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health or adult medicine. They may complete an advanced degree program that allows them to practice independently and take on roles similar to that of a doctor.

The need for advanced practice nurses cannot be over emphasized. 21st century healthcare challenges cannot be met with skills that were used many years ago. Technology is advancing, patients are become more informed, other healthcare practitioners are advancing in their profession and more research and innovative approach are being used in health care delivery, with nurses at the center of it all. It is a known fact that nurses spent more contact time with patients than any other health professional.

Therefore, to foster an effective collaborative relationship with others, nurses have to be prepared by getting the right training and education that would translate to optimal care delivery. Certain procedures which never existed even a few decades ago are becoming common. Take for instance Oncology nursing, interventional radiography nursing, nursing anesthesiology, nurse practitioner and advance nursing education. These are positions that were never considered in basic nursing education curriculum. But today, nurses are expected to be competent in these areas. How then would they acquire these skill advanced level skills without further education?

Other countries are projecting to double the number of advanced nursing practitioners within the next decade. Nigeria should learn from these experiences and be able to meet current demand while positioning itself with what is obtained globally.

Many people outside health sector may not understand this; it is an unnecessary competition. While I support the idea of giving health professionals opportunity for for self development I do not support unhealthy competition. Nurses can achieve what they are looking for from existing Universities and Teaching hospitals all over the country. Already we have National post graduate college for medical doctors, a bill for Establishment of National post graduate college for Physiotherapists is at National Assembly and now Nurses are agitating for same. Later Radiographers, Pharmacists, Laboratory scientists, etc will agitate for same and the rivalry in health sector continues. Health professionals should demand for means of professional development that is unique to their profession not requesting for something just because others are doing.

I don't understand these Drs at all. I really don't.

See, how this thread has degenerated. Will everyone be Drs? Do we all have same interests?
And should they not advance in their fields cos they ain't Doctors. Every little goodness other health professionals seek is seen as an attack. Ask for better working conditions and salary, you are competing with Drs (only Drs have a right to this) or why didn't you choose medicine in Jamb? Ask for advancement in Education, you want to be Drs. Only they know what's best for other professionals
I don't understand this silly rivalry.

My brotherman. They want to be like doctors. Can somebody tell me how nurses do more work than doctors? Do they take calls? No. they do three shifts/day and a month of 30 days they only work for 18-21 days and go off the rest. So, from nursing school to residency nursing (LMKMD). hehehehe! There is nothing person no hear for this Naija. How will that enhance their work of carrying out a doctor's instruction or giving injection or monitoring labour? When the chips are down in labour cases, doctors take over.
So, they will be fellow Nations post graduate medical college of Nurses (FCMN) kiss kiss kiss. Ok, they shd take this nonsense to West African college too.

National postgraduate college of medical laboratory science has passed second reading since 2014. It's awaiting third reading and a possible implementation. It's called professional advancement and not rivalry

My problem with nurses is that many of them have self esteem issues they always feel a need to be at par with doctors they need to recognise they have an important but different role to play in patient care. only then will they earn respect. I have seen where matron was arguing with a gynecologist about how to manage patient. I've seen where aconsultant requested to see a patient leg ulcer and the nurses decline because matron instructed them not to open the leg cuz it has already been dressed.

Not every postgraduate study is for residency. The sole aim isn't for residency but to churn out specialists in the areas of Medical laboratory science. You may want to open / download the second link. There are other areas in MLS where specialists training are required. Same way pharmacists have their WACPharmacy without residency that is what MLS is intending to doing. MLS has specialised branches which can not be exhausted at undergraduate level same way there are other specialty in the different health professions.
The hospital system doesn't recognise Msc or PhD alike so the need for a professional PG and not academic. Do you know a Dr with Msc isn't acknowledged in the hospital system aside those on NPMCN or WACP.
Open the other link and read through what you seek is resting dere but if you want I can help you
