DSS Raids Bureau De Change Operators In Abuja & Lagos, Forces Dollar Down To 400 by modsfucker(op): 7:02am On Nov 10, 2016
Officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) have raided two major Bureau de Change markets in Lagos and Abuja in a fresh attempt to end speculation in the foreign exchange transaction at the parallel market.

Sources at the market told Daily Trust that the DSS have earlier directed the officials of the BDCs association to peg the dollar at N400 while selling and N390 while buying from customers.

Immediately after the directives, the DSS operatives commenced the enforcement of the order by arresting those erring members that sold the dollar above N400 and or bought above N390 a dollar.
During the two-day operations, which took place between Tuesday and Wednesday, some traders were arrested.

Sources said about five operators were arrested in Abuja and Lagos as at yesterday.

When our reporter visited Zone 4, a cluster of BDC shops in Abuja, he noticed slow activities as both the traders and customers were jittery.

A trader who pleaded for anonymity said it was difficult to see the dollar to buy or sell in the market because, nobody was willing to sell at the new rates by the DSS.

He said when customers heard of the new rate of N390 a dollar they usually turned back.

He said the best way out was for CBN to flood the market with enough forex, instead of using force to address the problem.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Issac Okorafor, confirmed the activities of the DSS in the BDC market. He said most of the people arrested were unlicensed operators who were taking advantage of speculation to reap illegal money.

He said though the CBN had no hand in the raid, it was a welcome development for the market.

Using force to enforce this is counter productive.. Traders will simply keep their fx for now, waiting for DSS to disappear. This will lead to more scarcity of dollars which in turn will lead to more depreciation of the Naira.. Everything no be by gragra.. angry angry

Hmmmm. This is communism at its finest.
We are in trouble.
Forceful price controls are the beginning of the end of an economy.

I tell you the consequences. An "underground" black market would be created where things would get worse off because the worst kind of scarcity would hit the market as all the Forex would go underground.

Scarcity can never be controlled by force. Never.
Ever wonder why cocaine is as expensive as it is?

This government keeps using its own lack of knowledge to create terrible consequences for the economy.

This mumu move will only create scarcity which will further push the price above 500, if the government possess the brains and stimulate investments the naira will naturally go bullish. But but for now, lets watch and see how daura people destroy this country

Reminds me of price control boards he did with similar tactics in the 80s.Every thing is now pointing towards history repeating itself after Buhari's 20 months in power through either democratic or millitary means

The value of the Naira can only be restored by forces of demand and supply, not by the force of a gun.

Economic experts in the house, can someone please explain what it actually means to float the currency but yet, a gun has to be pointed at the heads of forex vendors for them to reduce their rates?
Re: DSS Raids Bureau De Change Operators In Abuja & Lagos, Forces Dollar Down To 400 by HtwoOw: 8:47am On Nov 10, 2016
Sooner they stabilize prices the better

Most traders bdc or not always want more and more profit even at the peril of everybody else

The same measure used for controlling fuel price should be used here as well otherwise they will force the economy aground then start buying cash in containers on farm lands

We are our own enemies. We are a special kind of stupid. We are a special scenario, needing special approach.

OTOH, the below ab initio . . . for a while, will be a good way to break the stronghold of saboteurs.

Almost everything under this administration is all about force. And we are not in military era.

This is not the best way to make them comply with your directives. As the remaining seller will hide their dollars and still sell above 500-600 when they see customers who are desperately in need.
