Super Eagle Sone Aluko has been rewarded for his imperious displays for Fulham last month after picking up the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for October.

During the period under review, the offensive all-rounder was on target in the Cottagers memorable win versus Barnsley, before notching three assists against Huddersfield.

Interviewed by the official website of Fulham, Aluko said : “Personally it’s a great feeling to be recognised with this award. It’s a nice feeling to be publically rewarded for your efforts.

“Ultimately I think it’s a team award. I wouldn’t get this award if the team weren’t winning and it’s a credit to my teammates and all the staff who have provided me with a platform to play well on. ”

This is the second time Aluko has been recognized as the best player in the English second-tier, having won the accolade back in November 2012 while on the payroll of Hull City.

I agree with you. That line up is fire and frightening. What makes it more frightening is that, most of them are young and will keep improving.

I hope Rohr gives Aluko a chance too and invites him for the next friendly games.

Ahead of Nigeria’s all important World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Algeria later today, coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has given a big hint on how his team intends to approach the game.


Rohr confessed that his team has problems in the right full back position and will need offensive players to do a job for whoever gets the nod to start at right back.


The German tactician was quick to point out that snuffing out the threat of Riyad Mahrez, who will most likely start on the left for Algeria will require Victor Moses, who plays as a wing back for Chelsea to put in a shift defensively even though he will be played further up the pitch.

He categorically stated that the Eagles defence
will be set up in a similar way to that of Chelsea,
but lamented the lack of time and players to
properly execute the plan.

“We have been trying some different systems in
training this week.

“We have a problem in the right back position.
The reason for this is because our right back
when we played against Tanzania (in Uyo on
September 3) has not been playing regularly at
his club” Rohr said.


“So it is difficult but we have been trying to find
another right back and that was Tyrone (Ebuehi) but he chose not to come at the last moment.

“So for this game against Algeria, we have
another solution or the same solution (as we did
for the last game against Zambia) because Ndidi
was not so bad (in Ndola).

“We know that he will likely be coming up against Mahrez who is a very good player, We must be strong on the wings and defensively too.

“(Victor) Moses plays on the right (for Chelsea),
not as a defender but mostly from a midfield
position.

“He defends when they lose the ball and attacks when they have the ball so we have to do a lot of work on the right side.

“We will try to play like Chelsea (in this regard) on Saturday but they usually have three defenders but we have two in that position.

“The major challenge we have had is that the time is too short to perfect these things.

“We have played two games together (against
Tanzania and Zambia) and changing too much for the game against Algeria will be too much to
ask,” he concluded .

qualifying looking to record successive wins that
will see them retain top spot in Group B.

The team is looking sharp after two training
sessions in Uyo and seem set to produce the
goods on Saturday evening at the ‘Nest of
Champions’.

Anyone who thinks the game will be
straightforward and easy for Nigeria may however have a surprise coming as the Algeria’s Foxes are battle-hardened competitors.

In Riyad Mahrez, Yacine Brahimi, Nabil Bentaleb
and Islam Slimani, Algeria coach, Georges
Leekens have extravagantly-talented individuals
who can turn a game on its head in a six pence.
So, there seems to be a consensus that the game will be tough, pulsating, exciting and not one forvthe faint-hearted but how can the Super Eagles claim bragging rights today?


Here are six things they must do to win.

Start strong

Leekens believes the defence is the weak link of
the Super Eagles.

He has charged his lads to produce a blistering
start at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium with the
hope of getting an early goal.

“The defence of Nigeria has some weaknesses
that needs to be taken into account.

“To achieve a good result (in Uyo), we have to
score one or more goals.

Stop Mahrez

Algeria is by no means a one man team but

walk as far as the Fennec Foxes are concerned.
Lekeens is likely to play a 4-3-3 formation with
Antalyaspor man, Raïs M'Bolhi almost certain to
start in goal.

Mohamed Khoutir Ziti, Hicham Belkaroui, Aïssa
Mandi and Faouzi Ghoulam appear set to receive
the nod from Leekens to start in defence for the
Foxes with captain Carl Medjani likely to be
saddled with his usual duty of playing just in front of the back four.

Saphir Taïder and Nabil Bentaleb will start in
defensive midfield while the dangerous trio of
Mahrez, Brahimi and Slimane will coruscate in
attack.

Stopping such stellar talent in full flow is an

The blue-print adopted by the Indomitable Lions in Blida was straight forward, ugly at times but ultimately successful.

Frustrating tactics (from the point of view of the Algerians) in the shape of doubling up on Mahrez and giving him no time on the ball worked to perfection.

When Mahrez plays to his full potential, the Foxes represent poetry in motion.

On match day one against Zambia, the Super
Eagles were cruising in Ndola following first half

Under Gernot Rohr, Iheanacho is thriving as he
has scored in all matches that the German has

Iheanacho is capable of the spectacular (as he

two months ago) and the sublime (as exemplified by his consummate finish against Zambia in Ndola last month).

The general feeling is that with adequate and
quality service, Iheanacho will deliver against the Foxes.

Crowd must play their part

The Crowd in Uyo when Nigeria beat Tanzania in a Nations Cup qualifier on October 3, was brilliant.

It was basically a dead rubber as Nigeria could no longer qualify for the tournament irrespective of the result but the fans turned out in their
numbers and cheered to the rafters.

Even in the face of numerous misses by the
Eagles’ attackers, the crowd did not despair and
eventually got due reward in the shape of
Iheanacho’s outrageous winner.

Nigerian football fans can be notoriously fickle,
known to turn against their team in the past for
poor showings.

Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi told
supersport.com earlier in the week that, ‘this
team is populated by a lot of young players’.

Youngsters like Iwobi, Iheanacho, Agbo and
others may struggle to deal with the reactions of
a hostile home crowd which could ultimately
hamper their performances.

The Foxes are more experienced and could make life complicated for the Eagles, especially if they manage to nick the first goal.


In the event of that scenario playing out, the
crowd must get behind the players and not on
their backs, to successfully carry them to safety.

This ur formation and attack line Na die .... I see u scoring more than 2 goals what I am not sure of is our defense line , I think this match will have upto 4 goals .

So Ndidi is going to start as our RB, then that means Omeruo will start as a LB/CB hybrid. That means we play a 4-2-3-1 in possession and 3-4-3 when we lose possession. Mehn, Iwobi go hear am today. I would rather fancy Etebo as the LMF because he has the stamina to run up and down for 90 mins and the boy has got the pace too, I guess that's why he is going to start, fantastic decision by the coach. Echiejile is my problem in that team, Mahrezzzzzz hhaaa, The hope nw is that Rohr is aware of it and i think he knows and work on how to neutralize the treat. But how can that be possible?
