Abeg, give me that weed you've been smoking

Kaduna-Zaria axis is quite built up...due to the high concentration of federal and state institutions there.

Then there is the fact that it is 2-3 hours away from Abuja.

@ovoko, stop posting rubbish. You have been misleading forumites with your fallatical research post.

Why would you rate without including kano.
Kano city is the commercial hu of the North.

Nawa for you ooo.

Ovokoo:
Here is a list of states in Nigeria that are highly urbanized beyond the state capital or the largest city.

http://ovoko.com.ng/10-most-urbanized-states-in-nigeria/

10. Kaduna

Kaduna state is probably the most urbanized state up north. The former capital of Northern region can boast of Kaduna which is the capital as well as Zaria, Kachia and other places.

9. Oyo

Not only is Oyo state highly urbanized but its cities are also large and highly populated. Apart from Ibadan which is reputed as the largest city in Nigeria in land mass, the state also boast of towns such as Oyo, Ogbomoso and smaller towns which includes Shaki, Iseyin and Igbo ora.

8. Akwa Ibom

The oil rich state of Akwa Ibom does not play with its towns as it can boast of Uyo which is the state capital and also a contender of the most beautiful city in Nigeria. It also boast of smaller towns such as Eket, Ikot Ekpene and Oron.

7. Abia

Abia state is home to the industrial and commercial city of Aba. Apart from this famous city, Aba boast of Umuahia which is the state capital as well as other smaller towns such as Arochukwu, Ohafia and Bende.

6. Ogun

Ogun state has been growing in leaps and bounds owing to its close proximity in Lagos. Ogun state can boast of things that other states except Lagos and Abuja cannot boast of. Apart from Abeokuta which is the state capital, other towns have held their own in different parts of the state. Some notable mentions include Ijebu Ode, Sagamu and Sango Otta which due to its close proximity to Nigeria’s economic capital, probably houses the largest industrial estate in Nigeria. The lagos/Ibadan axis of the state is also another place waiting to explode as it has seen a monumental migration of powerful religious centers and an upsurge of residential estates.

5. Rivers

The reason is because Port-hacourt is miles ahead of other town in the state but when you look outside the state, you will come to appreciate some of the other cities that Rivers state boast of which are more urbanized and wealthy than some state capitals. The likes of Omoku, Bonny Island, opobo, Khana , Okrika, Ahoada and smaller towns like Okwuzi/Mgbede are also pulling their weight.

4. Delta

The oil state is usually referred to as a mini Nigeria owing to the conglomeration of diverse ethnic groups in the state. These groups are also proud of their respective homeland and have made it something to be proud of. There are cities and mini cities scattered all over the state. From Warri, which is the economic capital to Asaba which is the political capital. Other smaller cities such as Agbor, Ughelii, Sapele are also holding their own.

3. Anambra

Anambra state is the third on our list because of the fact that it houses the commercial capital of the east, the automobile capital of Nigeria as well as the state capital. Beyond Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka, other smaller towns such as Ihiala, Ekwulobia, Obosi, Oba, Aguata, Nkpor etc are relatively urbanized.

2. Abuja

Abuja is Nigeria’s political capital and it has come to be a competition for Lagos state. Abuja is the second most urbanized state/territory after Lagos as it boast of development and economic activity in every nook and cranny of the capital. Popular places in Abuja are Wuse, Maitama, Garki, Gudu and so many more.

1. Lagos

Lagos is by far the most urbanized and economic capital of Nigeria. It is the only conurbation that exists in the whole of Nigeria. With every city in Lagos merging together to form a megapolis. Every part of the state/city is urbanized but popular cities in Lagos includes Ikeja, Lagos Island, Osodi, Amuwo odofin, Alimosho, Iyana Ipaja, badagry amongst others.

Oyo state? Like seriously? Iseyin is even that has no toilets is even mentioned. Iseyin in Oyo smells of sh!t (what they called igbe in Yoruba). Iseyin should be renamed igbeyin.

The list is almost very correct but I think Oyo, Ogun and Rivers should be ahead of Anambra State.

Anambra has 3 basic cities (Awka, Nnewi and Ontisha) unlike Oyo which have Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Oyo and Saki, Ogun have Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, Abeokuta, Mowe-Ibafo, Agbara, Sango Ota while Rivers have PHC, Onne, Bonny Island, etc. Looking at the Industries, population, land mass, infrastructure and other factors, one will agree with me that Anambra supposed to be 6th or 7th on the list.

Lists not bad. There are still states which deserve to be in the list. Akwa ibom shouldn't be there but why didn't I see Kano and Enugu.
I think Ogun was there cos of activities the lagosian has brought to sango, ifo, mowe, ibafo & magboro excluding not highly unbanized Abeokuta, Shagamu, Ijebuode and others. I would have say Ogun shouldn't be added.

Lol u are not serious. Iseyin is like a village becoming town na and your assertion is wrong that the town does not have accessible toilet.

Those saying Kano suppose to be on list are wrong. The OP said states not cities. If u watch Kano state closely, only Kano city/municipal is developed while other places in the state are chronic rural settlements.

Kano and Enugu doesn't deserve to be on the list. These states only have one or two developed cities in it.

Bro, u are wrong about Abeokuta. The city is urbanised. Along the university area, amosun need to construct dual carriage road way to pave way for the horrible traffic in that axis.

Notice IMO and Enugu are not there because though they have finer capitals, they don't have many places that are urbanized.

Now you get?
thank God that I have visited most of this state. In term of urbanisation you can not compare Abia to OYO state and kaduna as he said. After umuhia and aba tell me more of what relate to urban development in abia? In oyo state after ibadan, there is ogbomoso, Oyo, iseyin, saki and the likes of egbeda. In kaduna you still have. A very Honest Submission.

In My Opinion,

1- Lagos
2/3- Ogun
2/3- F.C.T
4 - Oyo
5 - Rivers
6 - Anambra
7 - Osun
8 - Delta
9 - Akwa Ibom
10 - Kaduna

In general SE states tend to be denser settled that Western states, but is mostly comprised of village type settlement, but Western states are much more urbanized. with bigger urban centres acting as Urban nodes.
On overall population SW states seem to have an edge and more populated on average, especially since Ogun, Lagos and Oyo have all zoomed off since the last population census.

Three notoriously popular One city states in the South are Edo (benin), Imo (Owerri) and Cross River (Calabar) ---- lol
In the North- Kano is notorious for being another one city state.

Rivers can not come before Ogun.
The reason I say that is because PH dominates the urban landscape of that state. The only other place trying there is Omoku.

In Ogun Abeokuta has become nothing other than the Political capital, several other cities there are bubbling.
Osun is a mostly urban state (going by the population of its urban centres, if we keep infrastructure/facilities criteria at bay) but if infrastructure/modernization is factored in, it MIGHT fall off the list.

I live in Anambra bt grew up in Lagos. In truth Anambra just have three main cities, Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka. After these three main cities Ekwulobia and Nkpor are closely followed. States like Ogun ,Oyo and Rivers r urbanised states more than Anambra. Let's remove sentiments. Am from Anambra we never reach those states. Even Awka is lacking many things.

Yeah omoku is trying but we can't brush away bonny island, Onne and few others. To be honest PHC has really taken the wide margin dev of River state.

U are right about ogun state statistics.

About Osun, I feel they have more of developed towns not city per say except osogbo and Ile-ife. Ilesa, modakeke, Ila, owu, ede are towns.

The brown sections represent the ancient factions of the cities which is just 20 percent. Those who have been to Ibadan and Abeokuta can testify to this claim. And those brown roofs u are seeing doesn't connote those houses are archaic.
