The argument for electoral college is ridiculous.A republican voter in Wyoming is for times more powerful than a California voter.

Wyoming is about 600k in population with 3 electoral votes.

California is 38million in population with 55 electoral votes.

There's 1 electoral vote for every 200k votes in Wyoming.

There's 55 electoral vote for every 700k votes in California.

The idea that liberal voters have more voice because they live in largely populated cities is ridiculous because their votes doesn't count as long as the 3 electoral votes in Wyoming is 4 times more powerful than the 55 from California.

Thanks. I am glad i did. I support conservative here in Canada, but it seems conservative has a different meaning in the US as it stands now, considering those trump has been putting forward for appointments in his administration. The republican party now seems more like a far right party similar to the UKIP and BNP in the UK.

Given that each of these states is viewed as being culturally unique, if a larger populated state or region were to vote for a candidate simply because of some ethnocentricity, then the outcome would be unfair and undemocratic. Also, the smaller states would be permanently disenfranchised since their votes would not count, anytime the larger populated states had an interest to defend, or vote for.

In rudimentary terms a democratic election is described as the majority carrying the vote, but this can only work where you have a homogenous group of people. In the US you do not have that so you have to find a way to even the scales, and electoral college does that wonderfully.

The electoral college was instituted under the cloaks of racism.It was never about giving voice to small states.
