I remember listening in on a program 6-7years ago. It was an interview with the then in coming head of the US Africa command. He was asked to justify the relevance of US AFRICOM. He talked about the threat of Al-queda in North and East Africa, Al-Shabab in Somalia and the drying up of the lake chad and the effect of global warming around the Lake chad Area. He said as the Lake Chad dries up and more and more herders are forced to take their cattle down south and encroach on the farmland of indigenous farmers down south, it would lead to conflict and violence. Like a prophesy, this has come to pass.
I think the FG's approach is the best way to tackle this menace. It is not an ethnic, tribal, religious or political problem like Fayose the thug would want us to believe. It happened during Jonathan's time as President. It is purely economic. People whose only means of subsistence livelihood is herding, have to herd their cattle. They can't herd their cattle where there is no water in the North. They have to come down south. The only way we can help the situation is build then grazing reserves or ranches like Buhari has suggested. But that thug in Ekiti State who doesn't know anything but is an expert in mass hysteria and misinformation has succeeded in convincing everyone that the problem is an ethnic one. And sadly people believe him.
