Hello Ladies I recently had my baby in Calgary, Canada. Before I applied I read nairaland from pg 1 to 20 plus then. Pls let's read the ALL the pages before asking any question.

At the point of Entry the officer just asked my why am in canada, I said Visiting. He asked who?, what I do for a living & other random questions that has nothing to do with my pregnancy, don't think I spent more than 1 minute him.

My bill for Vaginal Delivery

Admittance fee 838,
Hosp fee daily 3673 (For 24 hrs)
Baby's Hosp bill 1080
Obstetrician fee 500
Paediatrician fee 250
Total CAD$6,341

Other Expenses
Birth Certificate long 60
Birth Certificate short 41
Passport photo 25.2
Canadian Passport 107
Nigerian Travel Doc 100
Post to Nig. Embassy to & Fro 40
My baby's KLM ticket 243.5

Please Note: If they had asked me if I was pregnant at the Point of entry I would have said YES. There is no point lieing when u r obviously pregnant. If u r lucky u can meet a good officer.

This bill does not include seeing doc before & after delivery. I posted my bill to give a guideline, bills varies from the city u give birth, the doctor, type of delivery and also if there is complication.

I want to use this opportunity to thank Hotstepper for her assistance when applying for baby's Nigeria document. I wld HV applied for Nigerian Visa or passport for baby BT she explained to me that its not necessary. I should just apply for Emergency Travel Certificate for baby which is cheaper & faster.

If you need further information I will try my best to answer. Goodluck!

Hello Jinnyz, please do you mind sharing the name of the gynaecologist you used.

Hi KeishSunshine,

Congrats and thanks for this valuable info. Please can you give us details of the hospital and doctor you used. I intend having my baby in Toronto and I'm yet to get an affordable hospital and Doctor's contact.

KeishSunshine:
Hello Everyone,

My post is loooooong overdue but i'll still post 'cos this might help someone.
I had my baby in Canada in May. Got into Canada, late April and left June 3rd when my baby was 2 weeks plus.

Here's how it worked from scratch.

I got onto this page and some others I can't recall now sometime in January and read all I could over and over again.
Noticed a lot of people were talking to someone called 'Hotstepper' so I sent her a message to ask for guidance.
She gave me more than enough information and hand held me through the entire process.
Hubby and I applied for the visa in early February ( i was already VISIBLY pregnant).
The wait to get the visa was so scary cos I was running against time. Hotstepper kept praying with me o! (and yes, it took prayers).
Anyway visa came out third week in April and i was already 37 weeks then. So it was a rat race. Hotstepper and her entire family started to look for accommodation and everything i needed for me as she was my only contact in Toronto at the time. She had also warned me that some pregnant ladies were getting turned back at the port of entry so we kept praying and she was hoping with me too.
Hubby and I got in. Hubby was asked questions and i said nothing. I don't know if the guy saw my belle or not but I know God was at work sha cos we were allowed in.

Total hospital bills came to about 6000cad, cos i took epidural, that cost 1000cad.
Stay per day in the hospital 2500cad.
Doctor's fees were 1500cad.
Baby's fees including tests and all were about 1000cad

I got all my baby's documents in a week.
Didn't need to get a Nigerian passport for the baby, just got a document to allow him travel but even this document wasn't requested at any point in time while we were travelling. Just to be safe though, have it handy.

TIPS
It's best to run as many tests as you can here in Nigeria up to the very day before you travel so you can have up to date information for the doctor. I had to run some other tests cos I didn't have them all.

Ask the doctor why you have to do whatever tests he recommends and if they are necessary at all. Sometimes, they are just nice to do for the doctor, but everything will cost you some money.

It's best to have loads of cash handy. None of our cards worked in any of the ATMs there. We were able to pay for stuff via POS but even that didn't always work. Now, you actually need a dollar master card to make your life easy so just get that.

You can't rent a vehicle without a credit card. If you want to do a lot of running around and you prefer having a vehicle you need this. Taxis can be naughty...as in every other country. The bus is a great option, but you don't want to be carrying your newborn about in a place where he can be exposed to germs and all.

In getting a guarantor for your baby's Canadian passport, make sure that they know enough about you to pass a telephone interview. They actually call the guarantor to be sure they know you well. If they aren't satisfied, they'll deny your request for a Canadian passport and ask you to re-apply.

My baby DID NOT GET A HEALTH CARD, so I had to pay for every thing that was done for him. Every single thing. Maybe that was a law that changed but just have that at the back of your mind. And plan for it. Maybe it's only applicable to Toronto but...there!

If you are a new mum, this isn't compulsory but i'll advise you to stay till you've done your 6 week check up and be sure you're fine before coming back home.

There! I'll do my best to answer all questions.

Thanks to Hotstepper and her family, 'specially her sis and mum for just being angels.
Did i say i had never met her before that trip? Bless her heart.

@ soletar

Me & my husby applied on 9th May 2016 and got our visa 7th June 2016 to our greatest suprise, we taught it was going to take longer based on what i have been reading. It was paper application via Abuja office. First time applying i was given 5yrs (jst had my passport renewed), my husby got 1 yr guess bec his passport was expiring next year. I think your location should determine the method of application you want to use. If you are residing outside Lagos or Abuja i will advice u do paper application bec even if u do online u still need to go to the visa centre and do ur biometrics and when your visa have been approved you will still go and submit it.

Hope this helps.

@jinnyz, I think more info on documents submitted and your previous travel history provided in the application will help some more. Thanks.

Hi Keishsunshine,

Congrats on the arrival of your new born.

Just to clarify, does Canada accept medical reports from Nigeria? Please what are the recommended test a pregnant woman is supposed to do? Will appreciate if you can assist please. I will be flying in December.

Hello Rolorolo,

My doctor did. So all the tests that i did which were recent he didn't make me do again. I really can't recall them all but those I remember are - PCV, FBC, Blood Sugar, HIV, he wanted some vaginal tests which i hadn't done so i had to do it, very recent scan of the baby. Just get a medical report containing all those if possible a day before you travel. All the best.

Please can you tell us the name of the hospital you used and the doctor's contact, especially for those of us intending to have our baby in Toronto, but without any guide on the hospital and doctor to use.

Thanks.

Pls can u pls give us the sample of your letter of introduction as I am getting all necessary documents that will aid my family application. I intend applying with my hubby.
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by iphiechuks: 11:31am On Nov 22, 2016
Also other evidence of proof will also be useful since you have passed this stage.
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by iphiechuks: 11:47am On Nov 22, 2016
Do i need to liquidate the fixed deposit I have in my account b4 printing the account statement or I shld just attach the Fixed Deposit Cert as proof of funds. I am applying with hubby but we have all the funds in one account. hope it is fine.
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Virt: 12:22pm On Nov 22, 2016
My "purpose of travel" letter had a lot of personal details, but there is a guide on what should be on the letter on the CIC website. The following points can also help though:

1) Who you are (your name and what you do)
2) Where you want to travel to and places you will visit
3) The duration of your stay (specific dates e. g 22nd Nov, 2016 to 30th Dec, 2016)
4) Travel history (if you have done other international travels before, if u have not, then no need for this point)
5) Where will you be staying (Address of the host or hotel to be used) - include proof of hotel booking for the stated period of stay or letter of invitation from your host. The evidence will have the address, so no need to include here, but you can if you want to. there is no particular standard for the letter.
6) How much do you have for the trip or intended travel plan (include proof of funds e.g bank statements, FD certificates etc.
7)Home ties (My family is not travelling with me, so I stated that my hubby and kids back home are my home ties, including my parents. Also stated that we have landed properties and included title deeds etc. ) Please note, I decided to do all of these so that I can prove all my points, not that it is compulsory. You could have other things to prove your home ties, I think its important.
cool I had letter from my employer that I will be on vacation for that period and that I will definitely be returning to work. ( I also included payslips, promotion letter, all I could to make my letter persuasive. lols.

Some where in the letter I stated that I would be having my baby there and then included my personal medical story which is why i want to have the baby in Canada. - (details cannot be stated here) and I also included a medical report from my hospital. (Like I said, this is not a standard requirement)

EVERYTHING I SAID WAS TRUE and I provided documentary evidence for all my claims where necessary. I guess my purpose of travel was persuasive, so try and make yours persuasive but not beggary.

You don't need to liquidate your fixed deposit, its a short term investment, so its not a problem, but also include your bank statement, maybe they will want to see the movement in your accounts for a certain period (3 months).

I hope this helps.

I'm new here and have read ALL 39 pages!! grin Well done to everyone who has contributed to this helpful thread and God bless all those who keep coming back to provide more answers and insights - Hotstepper & co.

I have a few questions which have not yet been asked here:

-I already have a visa from a while back and I intend to travel at 28 weeks. Since I will be there early, I will likely need a number of hospital/doctor visits for antenatal care before delivery. How have others accessed antenatal care? And what are the costs?

- Once baby is born, what other costs do you incur for immunizations etc. if you plan to remain in Canada for at least 6 weeks.

-Hotstepper mentioned that Montreal POE is tougher than other cities? Could you please elaborate and advise? I will be going to Montreal.

I look forward to sharing my experience and costs breakdown when it's all over smiley

Thnks alot for your contribution and response. God Bless you.

my concerns are
I don't have any medical record to present as I did not present any when I got my USA visa to birth my son in the US. Should I just state on the letter that I am going for family Visit and birthing purpose among other things without providing medical report for that. Abeg no vex ooo, I just need to get it right.

Like I said, there is no standard requirement in that regard, I chose to provide that because of what I stated in my letter. I don't know what you have stated in your letter and whether it requires any form of documentary evidence or not.

I did not read anywhere that one must provide a medical report, I just did that based on my own discretion.

I really cant say what the VO would want to see, but ensure you provide every other standard requirements. Other evidences outside the CIC requirements are just jara.

hello all,

it was a lot to read but finally completed reading the posts. I have some questions.

1) this one is stated roughly but I just want to be sure. I have contacted with a hospital and doctor but don't know any family doctor. What should I do when arrive to Toronto? Can I simply walk to a family doctor and ask to redirected to my hospital? How dı I find a family doctor?

2) Does the guarantor for the passport need to live in Canada? I have a friend with a Canada passport living in abroad. Does she simply sign the passport papers? Does she need to be in Canada or will they only call her?

Thanks!

Good day all. I cherish the way help is rendered from this forum. I have been a silent follower of this great forum because I have nursed the ambition of giving birth in Canada.

I have serious issues I need to be advices on

1. Do I state categorically clear that I am going to give birth as my reason for travelling

2. Which of the application process is faster for visa processing ( online or paper)

3. Do paper application submission comes with capturing of biometrics immediately or would they call for it later?

4. I tend to travel with my hubby for the delivery but his work schedule takes him away from naija in a way that he works 6weeks away from the country and 3weeks vacation during which he comes back. Can his work schedule hinder the application process especially when we are called for biometrics.

5. Do the Canadian embassy run an expidiated visa processing

Pls kindly help a sister to make informed decision.

Hello all. I have read this thread thoroughly. I am interested in my wife birthing in Canada. She's 4 months already and her EDD is sometime in June. I've heard about medicals thing and all that. We have a son that will be 2yrs in January but I was thinking of planning a holiday with myself,my son and my wife. My question is when is the best time to apply so we can be there on time before she births and that will not raise suspicions at the airport

Hello Hotstepper. Pls I am interested in my wife giving birth in Canada. We applied for visit visa to the USA and we were denied visa. Now I'm looking at Canada. Though I have a relative offering to give me an invitation letter to Canada but I want to try on my own. We have a son already that is 2 yrs old and my wife is about 14 weeks gone, but I want to do everything on time. Note also,I'm in the pool for express entry for PR so I really want to be sincere about everything. And I see this as a chance to reduce the cumbersome worries of filing for the child if peradventure we birth before getting PR

Hello everyone.

If I were to have a child outside Nigeria, I would have my kid in Canada. It seems pretty straightforward. Submit application and wait for X Months (where X = Number of months it takes, depending on traffic) + All the documents + No interview

If you want to have you kid, in Canada, have them now while the liberals are still in power. The trump effect is already taking effect in the US of A.

#Shalom

Note: Correct me, If I'm wrong, you state you intent to give birth at the P.O.E? or in the form?
