I think cats are adorable creatures. I remember the eyes peeps in my area use to look at one guy that carries a kitten on his shoulder.

But I do like the kitten because its cute.

True.
I remember when a rabbit trap caught a cat in my neighbourhood. People didn't sleep until they killed the cat.

I remember my hostel mate screaming blood of Jesus, I bind and cast you agent of darkness because she heard a cat meowing at night in ekosodin.

In fact Edo people fear cat so much and they fear anyone who likes them

Re: The Persecution Of Cats In Nigeria by Craigston: 9:00am On Nov 26, 2016
I love cats and I understand how horrible those crude beliefs are. My cats, three kittens, were much persecuted by neighbors and only one grew into a cat. They finally killed it too. I was disheartened when I saw a whole street excite themselves with killing a helpless kitten that was only taking shelter from the rain, after its previous habitat had been destroyed for construction of a building.
I find these creatures more amiable than some humans. Until we learn that these creatures are equally important as humans, we cannot respect nature, let alone the God we blindly profess knowing.

Cats are very useful in the house, they help Chase out rats and other insects, they are always neat as well.

They are better pets when they are still young but once they grow old and big, they become wild and kill every chicken and birds around the neighbourhood.
Re: The Persecution Of Cats In Nigeria by PHIPEX(m): 9:08am On Nov 26, 2016
Great job Op, while growing up my mum had a cat and I can't forget one Saturday morning we watched it fish out a big rat from one of our rooms and we all watched as they faught and our agile cat prevailed and killed it, it was entertaining to us as children then. The only minus was that it steals any carelessly left fish and meat. We mourned the day it was killed.

The level of superstitions in the country is worrisome, to make it worse none of these stories is ever verified, I might get a cat soon.

I used to have one cat I named Ricky rozay. One of cutest cats I've ever known. Lovely and so so playful. But it doesn't stay one place. Liked going to neighbors houses and always come back with severe injuries and pain. ASABA people hate cat like mad. But it's all good.
I know rozay is in a better place now. I miss u rozay, Ur big dreamy eyes and ur playfulness. cry

I phucking hate cats. And not because they might be perceived as witches or pets of witches but because the are utterly useless. Can someone give me one useful benefit of having a cat as pet? The phucking thing would go with anyone that has a bottle of milk or a can milk. Phucking useless.

I am American and I despise Cats...Lots of people all over the country despise cats.

If I could, I would exterminate them all.

Cats are poor pets, they will Meow and ask a robber for a back rub if he broke into your house.

They are docile and above all utterly Useless, I despise them and no I am not religious or superstitious, I am Atheist.

Why will I take care of an animal that doesn't benefit me? A dog will make me go on runs, make me happy, keep me warm with its fur...A cat?

Fact.

I have nothing against cats but I just can't live with one. They fucking scare me!

And the way their mewing sounds at night ehn? So creepy.

Dogs over Cats anyday, any where, anytime.

My father's favorite pets were cats and I grew up watching him rearing and taking care of them. While living in England, I also saw how white people loved cats. So I never had any reason to believe cats were evil and when you have one cat around, the whole place will be free of Rats.

That was how I suggested to my neighbors (in Lagos) that we should get a cat when big rats were all over our compound. You need to see the way the women looked at me and I couldn't help shaking my head at their total ignorance and foolishness.

But let me quickly correct the OP that was emphasing Christians as the only people that believe cats are demons. Superstition, suspicion, ignorance and paranoia thrive in Nigeria and Africa generally because of low level of development in Education and Civilisation.
