Lecturers destroy more careers than they build... That is if they build careers at all. Bunch of Heartless people who think they can decide your destiny. But tell 'em certificate or not b.sc,m.sc,p.HD or not, am taking the world by surprise. Tell 'em i am a conqueror. Tell 'em! Lecturers indeed!

@Op, good one.

My advise to intending academics is to make use of every opportunity. Since you are yet to be posted for NYSC, start to narrow down your choice of universities for Postgraduate(Masters) study. It would also major advantage if you can get posted as a corps member to a tertiary education institution(University, Polytechnic or College of Education) as that would count towards your teaching/research experience.

Get a postgraduate degree as soon as possible. If you find a way of starting it as you serve please do. Many schools don't accept Graduate Assistants who don't have a master's degree.
You should have an MSc or register for one as soon as you can.

Get yourself ready for the academic marathon. Go grab your Msc and PhD once you are through with service, that will take about 4 years depending on the school and you are assured a job soonest.

Never relent to Write papers. give it out to intellectuals to make useful critics and comments on it... Carry out researches..... don't ever think of victimising students, be humble, friendly, rigid, be smart enough, Polish your grammar, be prayerful and the sky is your limit.

I was just examined externally last week. As I await Senate approval of my result, by God's grace I see myself as a Master of Science Degree Holder. B.Sc, M.Sc... Ph.D in view.

Thank you Lord.

@op whatever you do, DO NOT go to a Nigerian University for your graduate studies. Find your way to the US or Canada (US preferably) for your graduate studies. Otherwise, you'll end up adding to the problem called Nigerian Universities. My one kobo

If you have a good cv, you can get the post of a graduate assistant without masters. But once you have your PhD, even schools will be begging you to come

Dr dipo fashina, he's now in ABU Zaria, helping setting up the First philosophy Department in northern Nigeria, and ABU has automatically elevated him to prof,

Yes many school do not accept GA that dont have a master's degree,and if they do,then you may have gotten a written note from someone that knows you to the VC. That is how they now employ any kind of person without proper screening,and as the older lectures are leaving either to other school or for political appointment this once gradually kill the school system as they feel your feature now lies in their hands.

nice thread.....
Please before you enter class room to lecture, make sure you have practiced what you studied for at least 2years. we need to close the gap between theories and practicals. we need to stop producing half baked graduates.
Anybody who has not practiced for a minimum two years should not be allowed to lecture. that's my take.
