This particular post is wealthy and worthy enough to grace front page, cos it is about a burning issue that calls for serious concern. At least, it is better than the kind of topics that grace front page nowadays e.g "See What Omotola Ate This Morning".

@OP I feel your point. The silly Hon Gyang Dung is not pushing a bill that represents the people. He is only pushing an agenda he clearly knows nothing about. He doesn't know that, or perhaps knows, that the bill is a typical representation of the saying "The hand of Esau but the Voice of Jacob". That Bill is truly sponsored by the Muslims who are it as a means to paveway for Sharia to be implemented in all 36 states of Nigeria.

We might all wake up and see Sharia in Christian dominated states like Lagos, Anambra, Oyo Enugu, Abia etc.

We are Christians and we should live by the commands of Jesus Christ, not by that of a court posing as Christian. What makes us all think the judges that will be appointed wont be corrupted with money?
christian dominated state like Oyo and Lagos or what do you say. The kind of weed u're smoking is just too potent.

Why Christians should reject the bill for a Christian court in Nigeria

1. It is Satan's approach

Christians setting up a court for themselves is equivalent to dumping God's provided way of doing things and adopting Satan's approach. God has made it clear that we should settle our disputes in the church and it should be done by the elders.

1 Corinthians 1:6
If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord's people?

2. Its result won't help christianity

The result of Nigeria having a Christian court won't help the christian course it might pose to want to help. It's the same way Christian churches build universities that are of no help to Christianity but a business venture that the poor cannot partake in. We've all seen the huge mistake of Christian churches owning schools. The call for a Christian court, by a few, is almost like calling for Christians to have their own Armed Forces. Christianity does not operate like the world does.

3. We never clamoured for it

I can't seem to see where Christians clamoured for a Christian court, the equivalent of a Muslim Sharia court. Then why is a certain house of representative, Hon. Gyang Dung, pushing this bill in the National Assembly? Have we told him that we are fed up of God's own approach to doing things and now want to set up our own worldly way?

4. It is a ploy to push a hidden agenda

The bill passed a 2nd reading. Once this bill is passed into law, it will definitely amend the constitution of the nation. This is exactly what the Sharia proponents have been able finding difficult to achieve. Amending the constitution will see the christian court to appear in all states of the federation, even in the core northern states. This is something Muslims will take advantage of by pushing for a Sharia court bill, which if passed, will allow Sharia to get out of its caged hole in the Muslim north and spread to the christian south, a thing it seriously desires. It means that Christians have foolishly helped what they fear, simply because they failed to adhere to their God's standard which is settling disputes in the church and by elders, not in a court.

5. The court will be useless in Nigeria

It will be useless in the South because true Christians are ordered to forgive each other and not strive against each other. This will make the courts have less cases to settle. What about in the North? We are already seeing churches getting burnt in the North. Such courts will hold no value over there cos the illiterate Northerners won't mind discarding whatever judgment it issues as long as it doesn't favour their fellow Muslim. But if their Sharia court should have access to the south, a northerner based in the south will prefer to take a case against a Christian to Sharia courts instead of a secular court. The sad part is that the case will go through proceedings without interference, unlike in the north where an angry illiterate mob can disrupt proceedings of a Christian court just as we see them burn churches who worship on Fridays.

6. Our clamour is for the abolishment of religious courts

This is what Hon Gyang Dung should be pushing in the National Assembly. The current Sharia courts do not favour people of other religion when they are dragged to it. This could be attributed to a word in their Quran which says Muslims are to be kind with one another but harsh or severe to the unbelievers.

Quran 48:29
Mohammed is the messenger of Allah and those with him are HARSH against the DISBELIEVERS but MERCIFUL among THEMSELVES.

But I can assure you that Muslims will get fair justice if dragged to the proposed Christian court, cos Christians are God's children who should be like God who show no partiality.

English Standard Version
Romans 2:11
"For God shows no partiality."

Every Christian should rise up against this bill cos it doesn't represent Christianity but a dark force with an aim of luring Christians away from their God provided standard.
On point brother.Truth is : Christianity does not depend on worldly verdict in judgement .The moment we adopt a fallacy called christian court , we have failed.

The OP is right. From the his points, it is clear that the bill when passed into law will not favour anybody in the long run.
The honourable lawmakers should be tabling bills that will alleviate the poor masses. Enough of these religious hypocrisies.

I said give me scriptural backing, actual verses.

Anyway, let me make use of what you have provided.

1. This doesn't support a Christian court

2. Involving the elders of the church has been taking place since the first church was created. Setting up a Christian court will replace that which was laid up as foundation for the church, which is elders settling disputes in the church, not in courtrooms, whether Christian or not.

3. Using armed police officers is something that goes against Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith. If Christ could forgive all those that crucified him when he had the power to render them all blind or dead or even arrest them using angels, then it means we are to follow his footsteps.
Re Point 1. You have asserted, now prove. What is the difference between a Christian Court and the gathering of elders at Church?

Re. Point 2. So if the church meets in a courtroom to decide a matter is it not still the church? What if the designated "courtroom" is in a church, will that help you think analytically?

Re Point 3. You fail to understand the difference between justice and forgiveness. You can steal my money and i forgive you of the crime and the hurt you caused me but does that mean if you are found with the money you won't return it? Note that the bible says that all authority including that of the police man, comes from God. Using armed officers is certainly therefore not against the teachings of Jesus, who never said anything like that.

On the role of the police go and read Romans 13 1-6 and note verse 4 carefully:

for he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid, for he beareth not the sword in vain; for he is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil

Do you see where the scriptures refer to law enforcement agents as being ministers of God? And they are ministers also unto the Christian not just the wider society.

Show me the link please!
If you mean this: http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/185661-kano-sharia-court-sentences-9-to-death-for-blasphemy.html

You must see that those people who were sentenced are muslims not Christians.
As a matter of fact, to escape sharia law, all a person has to do is deny Islam and say he no longer believes in Allah. But for muslims, doing that might be worse than than death. Please be informed.

On this 1 corinthians 6:1
Not applicable, Paul's stance is in 1 Corinth 6:5,7. For Christians, Jesus said if a brother offends you, tell him, or go to him with a brother(1 Corinth 6:5), or tell the whole congregation. That is where it stops. A 'christian court' will serve for nominal church goers though.

A Christian court will be a court recognised and regulated by the government who will plant mobile policemen there. This is not recognised by the Bible.

The gathering of elders in a church is a gathering that doesn't involve or concern the government, policemen nor outsiders. This is recognised by the Bible.

SmartyPants:
Re. Point 2. So if the church meets in a courtroom to decide a matter is it not still the church? What if the designated "courtroom" is in a church, will that help you think analytically?
Church and courtroom are 2 different things. Elders are already meeting in the church to resolve issues. We do not need a court that will send our brothers to jail when we ought to practice forgiveness.

Hello? IVF, blood transfusions and surgical operations are not in the Bible yet Christians are doing it now and people's lives are being saved so what's your point na, are all these things sin, why are you talking like an isolated person?

Are you learned at all or are these copy and paste responses to people's posts?

What kind of Christian doesn't know that God choses leaders and Christians are supposed to obey our leaders. What's wrong with your leader endorsing the tenates of the Christian court and accepting it as law. Jesus obeyed constituted authority so what is your point? Only baby Christians will listen to your heresy

Look at what the Bible says concerning blood. Acts 15:29

"You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from BLOOD, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. YOU WILL DO WELL TO AVOID THESE THINGS. Farewell."

it shows that Christians taking blood are the Christians who have abandoned God's command and decided to save themselves. They no longer rely on God's help.

That is exactly what you want us to do by setting up a Christian court.

1. You are so quick to call for scriptures but i've not seen you show many scripture to back your assertions. If it own't be too much to ask, kindly show where in the bible the use of police men, mobile or any other kind, is prohibited on Church premises or by the Church. Especially given the fact that the bible refers to them as ministers of God with God given authority to wield the power that they do.

2. Elders meet in the Church to resolve issues and people meet in the courtroom to do what? Send people to jail? If you don't know how the legal system works just keep quiet. And you need to show me where it is said that throwing people in jail is not christian like. After all, Jesus told us the parable of the wicked servant who was thrown into jail.

I have also pointed out that Jesus said where the internal dispute resolution does not bring a brother to repentance then you should treat him like an unbeliever.

So why don't you start quoting scriptures to back up your position, instead of going round and round in the face of evidence.

I have just two questions for you.
If you are a deeper life menber how comfortable will you be to be judged by a celestia church member judge. Or if you are a catholic how comfortable will you be to be judged by a cherubim and Seraphim church member church.

One thing is sure, if christian courts are created the people will frequent it will be nominal christians(unbelievers) and church goers. People who, apart from being born again, have accurate understanding of the bible will avoid them like plague.

New testament christians have just twi laws; the love law and the faith law. (See 1Cor 13).
