Societal pressure and inclination has almost ruined Nigeria. Just to enter into a marriage union, one is marched on to spend an amount that can feed the new family for one year, and attendants will still be feeling you didn't spend much.
Especially in this buhari time, do the indoor traditional marriage ceremony and visit the registry after to seal it up legally. You can visit the church on sunday to do thanksgiving.
What we all term as church wedding is just celebration of the marriage contracted at the traditional and/or marriage registry. There is nothing like church wedding as it doesn't confer any legal right whatsoever.

I will also add that a legally married wife/husband has priority in the grant of letter of administration of estate (in the event either party died without a will). This is good to keep extended family members at bay and in their rightful place.

It is a breach contract and criminal offence punishable by imprisonment though I don't know the number of years if any of the party remarries without legally disolving the formal union. This is only applicable if any of the party enforce his/her right in the Court . And even if they do not, their current marriage is null and void. Even the Holy Scripture condemn such and refers their second "union" simply as adultery.

Wedding may take place in a court premises but the certificate is issued by a LGA marriage registry.

from eperience, i did court wedding.I drove in..my withness drove in we had our weddiing wify wore wedding gown,we did our wedding and in less than 30 min we are done nd we took our marriage certificate


case closed..went back to work and wify went back to work

Well most Churches in Nigeria are smarter.

These Churches assist their members to the registry and they issue the Government Certificates right in the Church.

These are big Churches, like Catholic, RCCG, Methodist etc

Alimony is also enforceable in church marriages gone sour. So if any man who married through the church should divorce his wife and leave her with lets say 3 kids, do you think the church will just tell you go your way good man, let your ex wife only take care of all the kids?

What makes marriage fail is not Tradition, church neither is it Registry wedding (what most people ignorantly call Court Wedding) but the people involved and how able they were in managing the circumstances leading up to divorce. They are men /women whom have seen 10 times what most divorcees saw and went their separate ways but are in still in their marriage and had worked their ways through such trouble waters through perseverence etc . Please note that Church /Tradition /Registry don't make marriage work, people /couple do, they can only help .

cos they chose to, They might not be bothered about getting married, to them lot ,marriage do not mean a thing.Check the laws in teh US and the UK, once you have kids and have lived together for xyz numbers of years you have same right as couples who are married
Also you can chose to sign a prenup where both parties value what they have and sign an agreement to go away with such if they do go apart, so as you can see its not a big seal.

yes that is very correct, I have seen that happen.A good friend of mine got married in one of these Big churches and two weddings where going on same time.The Registrar was in church that day.
