What would you do if your Boss keeps exercising the 7th Law of Power on you?

oh, in case you don't know that it is, it states that "Get others to do the work and take the credit for it?

So, friends...how would you answer this?

For how long am I supposed to get stuck in the 1st Law of Power?- "Never outshine the Master".
Interesting question. A good answer would be 'the boss is the head of the team we all function in. He showed the path and we took the walk. If we failed, the team did but the boss takes the knock the most. Therefore it is only normal for the boss to take the credit. HOWEVER, the place of the team is never undermined.'

This way, you not only glorify the boss but also the team.

Simply answer that you don't take credit for anything at first, that you believe in Team Work and Credit is for the team which is also the boss as the Team Leader...

Tell him you believe in that first law and it's your guiding principles but also believe in the 49th Law which states "Work Hard to Outgrown your Master"

Great question but I dont think its an efficient interview question.
Probably a question for graduate trainees.

Question simply means: "Do you have a problem with your boss taking the credit for a job you did?".

But the thing is a manager has to take the credit... This doesnt mean others dont know you are doing a great job.

For a manager to successfully manage a team is tasking in itself.

It the same boss that delegated the work to me, and supervised how I do it, he deserved the credit for the Job.

If any organization is doing well, the praise goes to the managers first before anyone.

One great element of management is DIRECTING which is motivating and ensuring that subordinates do their work in a way that it all synchronises towards achieving set goals. The performance of subordinates determines whether the manager is doing his job or not. In order words the manager's job is to ensure that you do your job hence he must take the glory while you get the recognition whether openly or In secret. There are so many things management see and do that junior staff don't until it materializes.

I don't believe in all these how would you answer bla bla bla question in a job interview sesson. Who will get the job would still get the job! Infact, you can answer this particular question in a wrong manner and still get the job so long you can defend your reasons!
Defending your reasons have answered the "How" question.

There's nothing i can do, but to keep doing the job even if he keeps taking the credit. My basic reason is because it gives me opportunity to garner the experience and if the job is not going well he gets the blame while the other way round he gets the credit.

We live in a world with constant competition. Use the wisdom and knowledge of other people to further your own cause. Not only will such assistance save you time and energy, it will
give you speed. In the end your helpers will be forgotten and you will be remembered.Essentially it is exercising how to get others do d work for u while u take the credit or share in d credit.
Re: Help- How Do You Answer This Interview Question? by Stonerobaba(m): 8:15am On Dec 14, 2016
The simple answer is NO. And the reason is just that since yourself and your manager are working towards the attainment of the same organisational goals and objectives, there should be no bias as regards who takes glory for tasks well executed as the whole team will be responsible for the success or failure of the team at the end.

I think the my main aim is for the company/establishment to move forward, and not taking individual awards so, I wouldn't mind.

I think what the interviewer is looking for is Team work. Every organisation has a Goal & Objective, every employee works towards the Goals & Objective of the organisation. If the company is doing well in terms of profit, it pro'lly means all the employees are doing well, Then when it comes to individual performance your appraisal can now speak for you which will be done by your line/departmental Manager.

when it comes to the 7th Law of Power, the Manager or who ever is the Team Lead gets the glory so also every member of that Team gets the glory too for working in that Team at the organisational level. This is because, if that Team is rewarded with cash or gifts, the Manager/Team Lead does not go home alone with the gifts.

So if an HR ask you such question, simple say you would work as Team. If the Team wins, you win! irrespective of who gets the glory. and also, your personal appraisal can speak for you.

1) I will do more for him to take glory of so that I can achieve Law 11 which says " learn to keep other people dependent on you"
2) by doing more, I would have fulfill my promise to add value to the organization because my boss' confidence on the ability of the company to deliver as much as I am around would have increased
3) by achieving the two above, I would have personally create my own job security and set a ground upon which my salary can be positively reviewed.

well since they chose to quote the 7th law of power, why don't you refer them back to one of the numerous axioms of the Mafia manager. Read up the axioms like psalm 23 and trust me you won't be looking for answers here.
One I love is "when ur boss sneezes, catch cold. When he bends, you break. But try and hold that bitter pill till you are ready to take your blow"

Re: Help- How Do You Answer This Interview Question? by Psoul(m): 11:19am On Dec 14, 2016
I believe this question is trying to test you on whether you prefer working hard or just showing off that you are working. To answer the question correctly, I think you should tell the interviewer that you are not so much interested at who takes the glory, rather you are interested at getting the job done because at the due time, who does what will be known. Also a boss taking the glory of a good work done by his department does not mean that the management does not know that there are people he used in delivering the target. The boss takes the glory for been able to organize best heads to achieve the target which invariably means that the whole team members share in the same glory.

To me,I will simply say there is nothing wrong in that, because one day,am going to be a boss as well and I can't do everything on my own, definitely,it is inevitable. "MY Boss taking credit for what I did",I don't see any big deal here.

Re: Help- How Do You Answer This Interview Question? by Nobody: 2:36pm On Dec 14, 2016
I have read that book some years back.

Sure, the Law of getting others to do the work and take the credit for it is being used by our bosses-Managers, Supervisors. And we as employees should apply the Law of Not outshining our bosses.

I have read books on events and one thing I have noticed is that most at times those in authorities are not pleased with smart and intelligent subordinates; they feel threatened by their intelligence. Just few let down their ego.

Every smart and intelligent employee is usually in this fix. But we have no leeway but just to keep improving on ourselves until the opportunity of becoming masters will knock at our door too.

So to continue to be in the good books of your boss,KEEP STROKING HIS EGO.
