You are very correct. It took a lot of prayers and serious networking before someone close to me was converted. That's after so many years of working as a contract staff. I won't advise anyone to go for bank contract job if there's a full staff position elsewhere even if the full staff position pays slightly lower.

Full staff job is better. ....been a full staff gives you edge when another job opportunity comes.
Meanwhile banks does not like to employ contact staff to full staff cadre. ...its very rear to see banks employ contract staff to full staff cadre unless with God's grace

He should move closer to areas close to the Island. Areas like Oworonsoki, Ifako-Gbagada or Surulere. He should be able to get an affordable self-contained apartment in those areas. That way, he spends less on t-fare and does not spend long hours in traffic. He willl begin to enjoy his Lagos job once he does that.,

He spends 30k on tfare
And Vi food is usually expensive which is where he works

Telling him not to resign.. he should go and start this new job for a week...see if he likes it and use that as a yardstick to decide.

Firstly, it's cost of living not standard. Nigeria doesn't offer her citizens the choice of having a reasonable standard of living. Isn't the same generator fumes you'll breathe anywhere?

And how's Akwa Ibom not "cheap" (affordable should be the word) to reside vis-a-vis the pay and passion (remember he said he doesn't like the Lagos job)?

Thanks a lot ,you should apply as English teacher at an orphanage, the kids need you.

Let your guy go for the contract. As a regional IT support I don't think he will depend on his salary only. Some contracts' positions in some organisations are far better than full-time positions in many organisation. If he thinks the cost of moving house will not outweigh the financial benefits in the new organization, let him stay put. Also if there is prospect of career growth in his current employer, he should stay put.

Thank you for your response.

The bank Job has a nice title of "Regional IT Support" attached to it, which i feel would look good on his CV. I feel he should take it and continue job hunting whilst at it.

Its not like his prospects are any better in his current coy. However in Lagos, there are more career opportunities.

Ultimately i feel the decision is his to make however difficult it maybe

my dear forget the title. a contract staff has no chance of carrier development and can not be treated fairly. note that there are a lot of job opportunities in lagos compare to akwa ibom.
I would suggest he continue with his present job until he sees a better job but definitely not a contract job
Re: N95k Contract Bank Job in Akwa Ibom Or N85k Full Staff Job In Lagos? by bellville: 11:20am On Dec 19, 2016
bank contract job has no prospect. If he were my own friend or brother, I would not advise him to take up the contract job. Let him stick to his Lagos job, relocate to any of those areas I have mentioned and have a positive view of his current job. He should face his challenges, learn on the job and start applying elsewhere. It's easy to get a full staff position elsewhere when you already hold a full time position. The word "outsourced staff", "contract staff" dents your cv.

Uyo is cool and self-contained is in the range of 130 to 160k depending on the location
Re: N95k Contract Bank Job in Akwa Ibom Or N85k Full Staff Job In Lagos? by badrobot77: 11:33am On Dec 19, 2016
OP, your best choice is to stick with Lagos because you have many opportunities in Lagos, a job in Akwa Ibom means you cant change jobs easily. So salary wise moving for N10k makes no difference if you consider inflation and UYO is not cheap but good to live in , but a contract job in recession is a time bomb.Stay in Lagos and keep looking.

Cost of living you mean right Because standard of living is relative to the individual. All the same, I agree with you, how can one spend 1000 naira on public transport fare a day or spend 200,000 naira on self contain per year! Little wonder folks that earn fairly good pay of 100k a month in Lagos find it difficult saving a reasonable amount.

my advice is stability.
the lagos job is full time, hence more stable. how will he foot bills when the contract jobs runs out of contract?

calabaman:
Hello all.

Please help a friend of mine decide:

He has just been offered a bank job in akwa ibom state, however its a contract job in a commercial banks IT department with a salary of 95,000. Also, he comes from Akwa Ibom.

Thing is he currently employed here in Lagos as a full staff and earns 85,000. however he doesn't enjoy the job.

Now should he stick with this 85k job or take up the 95k job offer knowing how bank contract staff are usually treated, but how stress free akwa ibom is.

#No insults please.

My dear nairalander,
I served in Akwa Ibom State and I was born nd schl in Lagos. Ibom is a very nice place to live. How I wish I am in ur shoe, I will pick Ibom offer over Lagos.

selfcon go for 80-120k well tiled, security, water etc. U can try N-Line in Uyo for ur accommodation.
