if you have Bereau the change littered everywhere like Fast-food joints or filling stations, they will be no need to patronize black market or if the banks didn't have all these restrictions and one could just walk in and change to any currency needed like its done in advanced countries, the Black market will die a natural death.

but when you see pple hiding and exchange dollars like it is contraband what do u expect?

What's the difference between black market and bureau de change?

Of cause not! What were you thinking? It will lead to dollar scarcity hence causing hike in exchange rate.
Thank you!

And as soon as it gets scarce....blackmarket will spring up again.
Its practically impossible to eliminate black market as far as money is concerned

Bank rate = $1 -> #314 naira

Black market $1 -> #496 naira.
Which you prefer? At least first thing this idiotic government is doing correctly.

•GEJ damaged the economy
•Low Oil prices damaged the economy
•Niger Delta Militants damaged the economy
•Lack of Forex damaged the economy
•High cost of manufacturing damaged the economy
•Now Black market damaged the economy

The excuse and blame list from Buhari and his noise makers is growing in leaps and bounds except themselves of course,

I have a radical advice for them, they should all resign and allow the country to auto-pilot itself, not that any Nigerian is feeling the government effect anyways!
i was arguing with some group of men earlier this month and i told them thus country would by far be better if we were still under british administration. They all laughed at me. undecided

If you are in the US or have relatives in the US trying to send money to naija, I will exchange the funds at 410/$, simply deposit into my US bank account and receive instant funding into your Nigerian account. Don't bother with western Union and co, they exchange at 375/$ with fees and the exchange rate drops to around 345/$.

See my contact below.
I will pay you 420, deposit it in my account.

Had it been you have a full understanding of the Nigerian export n import business environment, you won't have written this cuz Kemi was actually right. The first problem Nigeria faced came from the black market, forcing the exchange rate of dollars indiscriminately through the creation of artificial scarcity so as to make exorbitant gains, and some commercial banks toed that line, offering to sell dollar to bureau de change operators instead of business people cuz of the gains they want to make.

And since that month of September 2014, the economy hasn't recovered.... All other problems compounded the debacle.

Think through before you criticize. Thanks

It is a good idea;but banks are very guilty and the law of supply and demand comes to play. Government needs to reverse some policies that allows free market.

bureau de change is the parallel or black market. Nigeria adopted a two tier exchange rate after buhari military regime was kicked out. during his regime, possession of foreign currency carries heavy penalty including death and the result was serious dollar scarcity. a two tier exchange rate means that there must exist a parallel market in order for the exchange rate to be determined by market forces.

If you've visited Murtala Mohammed airport, you'll understand.

in lay man's terms Black markets are those guys mainly "aboki" shouting dollar dollar,

Bureau the change are those shops where u go and change with fancy currency board etc.

Basically the bureau de change guys are registered and regulated and can give u receipts.
the Black market guys are the street hustlers

From all you listed above, tell me 1 or 2 that's not true.

I know you won't answer the question but I hope you will.

We are too good in criticizing.

Solving a problem requires identifying the cause(s) of the problem.

Not the same bro.

If the govt want to maintain an effective two-tiers, they will. All they need is new policies and law to curb street hawking of foreign currencies.

Mind you, in countries that works, there is a limit to amount of own currency you can carry or keep at home, not to talk of a foreign currency.

Nigeria want development bt doesn't want to change dia ways of doing things.

Nigeria recession is a recession born by high forex demand.

Don't all this things add up to it and they are not excuses but facts, even though buhari and his economic team got it wrong in so many aspects and policies but you cannot deny the facts you listed .

The only point that's debatable is the GEJ claim,GEJ can't take all the blame. All the past Nigerian presidents him and buhari inclusive should be blamed.

Read what you wrote again and think it through slowly please.

In all honesty I don't see how the abolishment of the parallel market would help matters rather it will increase the pressure on financial institutions which we all know can't meet up with the country's foreign exchange demand.
