Most Nigerian employers are like that. In my layman's opinion, what you have listed above plus your letter(s) of employment/confirmation/promotion should be enough to establish the authenticity of your employment claim.

How about getting a trusted senior colleague to write some sort of personal reference for you? It should be "To Whom It May Concern" so that you won't have to go back to him on it.

You may go further by obtaining a written job description of your job role from your company's HR as a supporting documentation.

Borrowing an idea from the Canadian Immigration thread, you may write a brief explanation as to why you were unable to obtain one from your HR i.e. it is not in your company's policy to issue such letters to a serving staff.

At least, the latter is what my employer told me when I requested for such a letter.

NB: The above are my layman's opinion.

Thanks. I'll weigh the options after meeting with them in January.

Don't disturb yourself with any meeting. Just do a statutory declaration and explain why you couldn't get a letter. Add those documents as back up and you will be fine.

@Omooloriredade

The "Oracle" has spoken! cheesy

Oga bellong, please I need a little clarity on this "Statutory Declaration". Tried to Google this thread for an explanation but maybe I missed it.

Is it like the "affidavit" that we do in court affirming certain information? Who prepares/signs it? The applicant or another person e.g. a senior colleague? Does it have a specified format?

I just want to be sure that I got it right. Thanks for your anticipated clarification.

Looking at the two results, you have made some progress. Please don't give up. Success is around the corner.

By the way, I always enjoy how you spice up the thread with humour and the positivity that you radiate.

@40manlappy,

Yes, it is like an affidavit as it must be attested to by a notary public/court as done for affidavit.

The content is pretty same as reference letter except that you are writing it yourself. You only need to add why you can't get a letter from your employer and also include contact details of your direct supervisor.

When I have time to sit at my system, I may be able to upload a sample of the one I used.

Mamajaz is a phenomenal woman with a sweet personality. Her determination is one in a million. I was privileged to meet and travel down to Ibadan with her for the PTE last friday (wifey was writing too). We all had a wonderful time alongside Papajaz.

I am sure she will jump and pass this stage very soon.

In all, this has been a wonderful year and everyone on this thread has been part of it for me. I look forward to all our success stories.

Merry Christmas to everyone!!! wink

Dear Bellong and other gurus, please i will like to confirm if I can start my assessment as I have done 2.9 years in my current place of employment and I have one year experience previously, but can't get a refrence letter from them.I only have their employment letter.I have taken PTE already(10 points).

Yes you can start your assessment. Do a statutory declaration for the previous job and attach other supporting documents as discussed on this thread before.

Goodluck.

For a journey that started sometime in 2013,I'm very happy and so grateful to God that we received our 189 grant mail this morning.
A big thank you to BossLadyMo who was there from the very beginning and of course Sir Bellong who encouraged me when I was feeling overwhelmed at some point.To everyone who has responded to my enquiries at one time or the other,this is saying THANK YOU.
My family and I are getting set for Melbourne as I type.
The journey so far;
Applied with Vetassess as internal auditor in August or so 2013 and got a negative report after over four months.
Encouraged by another who's gotten his grant,we tried ICAA as external auditor in June 2014.After over 3months,they asked us to provide a corrected transcripts as the one we submitted omitted some courses.
Trust Nigeria institutions,we enter one chance trying to get a fresh transcript.
At this point,my Oga(principal applicant) say he's not doing again.He asked for his documents and money back from ICAA.Na there the journey terminate in 2014.
After plenty cajoling,prayers and pampering,hubby agreed to try again with Icaa in 2015.He Waka tire and spent money trying to get a fresh transcript which he now sent again to ICAA.
October 2015,we were positively assessed.We lodged Eoi with 60points(hubby wrote Ielts thrice by the way to get 7 minimum).
February 2016 he wrote Pte and we moved up to 70points.
When invite didn't show by May,he applied to ICAA with same documents and was positively assessed as accountant.
August 2016,we got four invites!!! 189 accountant and 189 external auditor.Then 190 accountant and 190 external auditor from Nsw.
We went with 189 external auditor and lodged on Aug 3rd.Uploaded all documents.
Then late August,there were issues with hubby"s X-rays and he was asked to do further X-rays.They still were not satisfied and asked for a sputum test.We were quite frustrated.
Finally on Nov 28th,his medicals were cleared.
On Dec 7th he was sent a health declaration form 815 to fill and submit.
Dec 22nd,we got our grant for the whole family.
Pls forgive any errors.I no fit modify grin grin

Ordinarily, a letter of proficiency would suffice. But a case was brought up on this same thread where the CO rejected the letter and instead asked for an English test result.

So I guess it is a matter of who is reviewing who and as for me ooo, I have taken my wife to write PTE to avoid stories that touch the heart with unnecessary delay.

@Bellong Please I need your advice on a situation. My bachelor degree in Business Admin(2.1) from Uniben was assessed as an associate degree by VETASSESS. So my question, Is a Nigerian bachelor degree assessed or equivalent to an associate degree in Australia? If no, what might have gone wrong in my case? Should I appeal the assessment. Will appreciate your feedback.

Oga Bellong,

Merry Christmas already shared a few here.

1 EA asked for some feedback on Hubby's CDR since September[He wrote episodes based on his work experience as maintenance engineer in a drilling coy and he is assessing as an Electrical Engineer so they need him to be more detailed asper designs and all. Oga is finding it hard to find time and conclude so we can proceed to assessment.Still cajoling and encouraging.

2-EA asked for proof of all work experience where he was employed as an Engineer couldn't get for one of the Companies as they have been bought over by another company.We have done a statutory declaration of work experience for this one and will attach some payslips/publication of sale.

3- EA asked for his CV to be filled without spaces[Hubby has a few gaps between finishing his Masters and getting a job]we are still coming up with ways to sort this out.

4- English test!!!!2 IELTS,2PTE in the bag all 10 points we are gunning for 20 points to avoid claiming points for work experience,Hubby is studying for his next test found a site that has been helpful had to pay a little over a 100dolls to assesses their materials though but while studying he's realized loads of mistakes he's been making and is very optimistic for a 20 in the next one come January.

This is our story so far....Hopeful for 2017.

Merry Christmas and wish us all a dream fulfilling new year ahead.
