hammerT:Have you got any sources for this? It's a very interesting school of thought and I'd like to look further into it. However, it does seem a bit odd that these traders supposedly carried the kingship to Benin but could not do the same in other towns/villages that do not have kingdoms on their way. |

BornStunner1:No argument from me. I believe in NRI & Arochukwu. Raised IGBo, Mother language is Igbo. Breathe Igbo. Given Proximity of Igbo & Benin there are bound to be influences. Actually I somewhat agree with you because think I remember faint references to Benin from my father. |

Even an igbo woman like Chichi Igbo can pass as his daughter. Igbo gene is very strong, u can see it in the faces, go and look at the Anioma King face u posted his picture face and then look at Chichi Igbo face.

How i wish Nzeogwu will hear a saboteur call him Benin or having Benin blood. It is like u need a repeat of the Anioma and Benin War, where Benin suffered heavy defeat to come back to ur senses. ![]() |

Ngozi123:Find a library and borrow this book, it is very good. Onwuejeogwu, M. Angulu (1981). An Igbo civilization: Nri kingdom & hegemony. Ethnographica. ISBN 978-123-105-X. The trade of the Igbos referred to as Anioma were mainly fishing and Agricultural produce(live stock). They conducted most of their activities on the River Niger, canoeing to and back with meat and fish. They fished on the River Niger and Farmed(hunt) in present day Anioma. Consequently many had settled there, as u find igbos settling in places like Lagos and Abuja and elsewhere. The difference is that it was a virgin land and uninhabited. The Anioma igbos have their roots in Onitsha, Ogbaru and Anambra West. These local government had an Established Kingship that were under the Nri Kingdom sphere of religious and political influence (over a third of Igboland) and was administered by a priest-king called as an Eze Nri. The Eze Nri managed trade and diplomacy on behalf of the Nri people, and possessed divine authority in religious matters. Nri expanded through converts gaining neighboring communities' allegiance, not by force. Nri's culture permanently influenced the Northern and Western Igbo, especially through religion and taboos. British colonialism, the Atlantic slave trade and the rise of the Bini and Igala kingdoms contributed to the decline of the Nri Kingdom. The Nri Kingdom is going through a cultural revival. |

Ngozi123 Ndiigbo have a glorious history that is widely acknowledged even globally, but not celebrated. I guess it is part of the consequence of the Civil War and mind u, that war was more about the US, UK oil interest and not the Hausa or Yoruba benefactor. Igbos were up against the global powers who had just concluded a world war two decades earlier. So u can understand y things went the way they did. At lot of the weapons developed for the second world war were handed to Nigeria to be used to deliver the oil wealth of the South East to mainly western oil companies. i.e BP, Shell, Chevron and co. Before then, Igbos are not known or recorded as losing any war. Even the Biafra War was deemed no Victor or Vanquished by Gowon himself becos in all honesty Nigeria never won, despite international help, watch the documentary on youtube. Alot of Igbo people dont know they are igbo or are intimidated into denying their heritage and it starts from not knowing their history or language becos their parents did not emphasise that or teach them. |

Ngozi123 Take note the Bini and Igala kingdoms alongside the Oyo Empire, Ashanti Empire and Aro Confederation were greatly aided by the British. They provided platform that enabled slave trade to thrive in west Africa. They are all 15th century kingdoms that were deeply involved in the transatlantic slave raids and trade. |

Full list of West African Kingdomshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_empires U can clearly see that besides Nri Kingdom that started in the 9th century, others are product of Either western colonialism or Arab colonialism and slave trade. Others are all 15th century creation besides Nri Kingdom. Igbo bronze work is the oldest in west africa and some of it are on display at the British Museum and they all date back to the 9th century period of Nri Kingdom. Many of it were for worship and symbolism of political power. here is a link to some found in Igbo Ukwu. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Igbo+ukwu&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj01b_MmaTRAhUlB8AKHdVUCoQQ_AUICCgB&biw=1777&bih=827#imgrc=_

RickyTan:Hahaha, we all know that is a lie. You guys came out saying igbos don't have kings, now the binis borrowed the staff and regalia from you yet you guys go to seek permission from the oba of Benin before taking up the kingship position. What does that tell you? Sorry bro, the truth is bitter. You are all binis, not Jews or Ugandans. ![]() |

dragonking3:Sorry but wat u posted did not add up. Igbo had Kings before anybody in west africa did. He was known as the Eze Nri. He was the only person with the title Eze at the time. Other titles were Obi which means palace. Nnamdi Azikiwe acknowledged the Obi of Onitsha but did not talk about Eze Nri in his speech becos it did not support wateva point he was trying to make. |

I am very sorry but i must add that, Nnamdi Azikiwe is a typical fool that would sell his own mother, so as to be liked by people that will never like him. He gave everything to be liked, but till this day the people he sold the entire Igbo people to dont remember he existed. He died in poverty. Go and see the mausoleum of First Presidents in Ghana and elsewhere, then take a look at Nnamdi Azikiwe Burial place. Even with all GEJ did, the site looks disgusting. Moral of the story is, never sell ur birth-right to anybody. Even God will not appreciate that, becos u handed over wat he intended 4 u to someone that he did not intend to have it, becos they will use it for evil. Where is Nnamdi Azikiwe mausoleum? smh! |

dragonking3:What was Eze Chima's Bini or Yoruba name? I may have missed it while perusing the article but just in case I didn't, do you know it? Was he only given the name 'Eze Chima' once he arrived in Onitsha? |

BornStunner1:You know nothing about Ubulu history. That Hausa man wears turban doesn't mean he came from Arabia. That you wear a suit to the office doesn't mean you came from Europe. Benin was a powerful kingdom and influenced all the smaller kingdoms around it. Some of these kingdoms claimed that their ruling families came from Benin. BUT NOT ALL OF THEM MAKE THAT CLAIM! FOR EXAMPLE, OGWASHI-UKU AND UBULU DYNASTIES DON'T CLAIM BINI ANCESTRY. |

Ngozi123:Please forgive me and am sorry to say this but your question is silly. Why? The urhobo, isoko, ijaw and the rest bear names like Akpooghene, Oghenekaro, ebele etc. Do those names sound like bini names to you? Yet it is evident that they are from the bini kingdom. Same with the igbos so stop all these senseless denials. Also, wetin concern Yoruba for this matter? Please leave them out of this. Nnamdi Azikiwe is an elder state when he made that statement and his grandma knows much about their true origin. Read his statement again and accept the bitter truth "One day I asked her (grandmother) the meaning of the word 'Onitsha'. She explained that it had historical significance. The terminology meant one who despised another. It is a contraction of two words, Onini to despise, and Ncha meaning others. So that the two words when joined together mean one who despises others. Then I asked her why we despised others. She patted me on the back and told me that it was due to our aristocratic background and tradition. I insisted that she should explain to me the basis of this supercilious social attitude. She told me that we despised others because we descended from the Royal House of Benin and so regarded ourselves as the superiors of other tribes who had no royal blood in their veins, " |
