Please tell Mr. Shittu that his association can sue FG, .i.e, A.G, Adeosun in her official capacity, Custom board or custom head. They can bring an action to compel them to issue a schedule of vehicles clearing/ import duty to the public as against the hush hush secrecy, if the action succeeds, the court would order FG to do so. 2 Likes |

These "give more fvck" memes are really starting to get old, especially when used in threads where we actually have to "give fvcks". Imagine if your daddy has been saving up to buy that Honda Odyssey tokunbo he has been dreaming of, only to find out that he'll have to save up some more to buy Innoson (sic), then he'll now end up buying Marwa. How then would you feel? You'd give a fvck then, right? 4 Likes 3 Shares |

If the people don't have bread, let them eat cake,! What's wrong with importing cars for Pete sake?Nigeria has no comparative advantage in making cars. Also, tokunbo car imports has created lots of jobs. The person reading this has either imported one, helped dispose one or knows car dealers that sell only tokunbo cars. The World Bank estimates that 4million, Nigerians would be lifted out of poverty if the present bans in place were lifted. The Economist magazine said bluntly that protectionism has failed to industrialise the country. So true 3 Likes |

That Mr Shittu is right, NCS should publicly publish the fees payable on vehicles. 2 Likes |

olaboy33: We can never and will never produce vehicles. It's plain old economics. All this idealistic arguments. How many parts make up a car. Ordinary Tyre na problem. Fuel pump Nko. What about sensors? For a car manufacturing plant to break even, they need to sell 100000 cars a year. How many of us can afford bag of rice right now? If Buharis argument for this ban is for us to start producing cars, then we voted wrong. Sad. He should have said all this during d campaign. 3 Likes |

I see no sense in banning importation of cars through land borders, its not like as if scarce dollars are used in the procurement of these vehicles. I guess somebody somewhere who imports cars through the sea feels short changed somehw and has thus influenced the govt to ban car importation through the borders. 1 Like |

asokoromadam: You can't compare their functional system with that of Nigeria's dysfunctional system. “The same policy was reviewed by the previous government because we were losing revenue. All the old vehicles were in Cotonou and that policy alone enriched that country. Now we are bringing the policy again when we have failed to address the issues at the ports. If you bring in vehicles to the ports with high costs, how do you sell the vehicles? And the kind of valuation that customs are giving vehicles at the point of entry, these are the issues we must address.” My grouse with the directives is that the deadline was way too short and the high tariffs incurred along with the bottleneck's encountered while trying to clear imported cars through the seaports has not been addressed as well which the custom officer's are cashing on. 1 Like |

The only issue I see here is the extortion of importers by custom officials. Non declaration of duties payable on imported vehicles. The association should arrange themselves and go to court and demand for transparency in handling vehicles clearing procedures. Instead of appealing to government who wouldn't listen, go to court. |

asokoromadam: The title is misleading. You can import vehicles into nigeria. The duties have been raised that's all. There is no ban on car imports just an increase in tariffs |
