There's nothing like dominant Anioma dialect. All Anioma dialects are regarded equal in Aniomaland. No Anioma dialect is inferior to other. If two Anioma indigenes want to communicate, each use his language. Even when we as Ika people go to Enuani and Ukwani area for marriage or burial, we speak Ika and they understand us well. We don't even try to speak their tongue because we're in their land.
Then why is Enuani regarded as the dominant dialect in the region? Why is it the only one that is described as "comprehensible to all"? huh

This is not a tribe in Ghana called Ewe but the name Eweka.

Neither did i ask u for the yoruba meaning to the word Ewe?

If i was after that then i would have gone with google that defines it as a female sheep.

The question is refered to the Bini not an Okun man from Kogi.

I guess u are finally understanding that the source is the East and not the west.

Hence the settlement to the East speak the most comprehensible/ dominant dialect as oppose to those in the west.

Ur people and the Anioma are one people, that crossed west and headed west to take advantage of an uninhabited land.

Instead of bothering with further west of anioma dialect, head east to find the origin of Enuani.

First u need to look at their language. They share too many words with igbos that mean literally, the samething spelt the same way.

i.e. Ugbo in Bini means Farm, the same word and spelling means the samething in igbo both in the west and the East.

osakwe''.in igbo literally means 'God Agree' and it means exactly the samething in Benin

Ogbe means quarters in Igbo, agains same word means exactly the samething in Benin.

etc.

There are certain sentence they make that incorporate both the yoruba and igbo words mixed together. The words refer to similar things but the bini use it to make a sentence.

i.e. their greeting of the Oba. i.e. Oba Atokpe Ise!! Ato in igbo means to be stuck. Kpe in yoruba means to be long. They use both words to wish their king a long reign.

The kingship and its origin and the similarities to its neighbours in the east is another aspect.

Their dressing and even their genetics will help to establish further facts.
The fact that your people share certain words with the Bini, does not mean that the Bini descended from Igbo. undecided If they did, how come Igbo cultural influences did not survive or thrive among the Bini people? Also, the correct phrase is "Oba Ghato Kpere… Ise!" which is the traditional salutation reserved for the Oba of Benin. It means may the king live long! So where is 'ato' which means to be stuck in Igbo, inside all these? huh

You've changed your tune... I thought you said that the whole of Anioma used to be called 'Ika'? huh How is it that such a dominant group such as the Ika who were so dominant that the whole region was named after got overtaken by another group so quickly?

What are you talking about? There's no context needed here; the Enuani dialect is the most dominant in the region and is "comprehensible to all". We're talking about language here so obviously it's saying that it's the dominant language of the region. As for your point about having extensive knowledge about the topic... well, what can I say? I don't pretend to have extensive knowledge on the subject but going from your posts, neither do you undecided.

Have u conducted any research to scertain that Igbo cultural influence did not survive or thrive, yet u claim Bini influence on igbo? This is a double edge sword.(speaking from both ends of your mouth without the middle part.)

It is very good u use the word Ghato, it is even more igbo and it mean "will be stuck" in igbo. I hope u know that word Ise means exactly the same thing in Bini as it does in Igbo?

Kpere is a yoruba word. it points to longevity.

There's no Anioma language that's not comprehensible to all Anioma. The confusion will come in when you include those Aniomas outside of Delta State. Maybe. But I'm limiting my scope to the Aniomas in Delta State which I'm 100% familiar with.

Ika was the general name for Anioma even from the colonial era.
Re: 23 Year Old : Obi Nduka Ezeagwuna II Crowned 20th Obi Of Issele-uku - Pictures by Cire80: 12:12am On Jan 08, 2017
The Anioma groups outside of Delta have been cut off from Anioma for decades or even centuries and they shouldn't be a yardstick in measuring anything. It's just like talking about Yoruba dialects and you start including Itsekiri and Olukumi, that would only cause more confusion.

And Ika being the generic name for Anioma doesn't necessarily mean Ika was the dominant language but there are many Ika words in all the Anioma languages. It's this shared words that aids easier intelligibility even though our intonation is completely different. Ika is leaned more towards Bini while Ukwani is lean more towards Urhobo and Enuani is mixture of Ika and Igbo with more Igboid intonation among the groups.

Guy, just hold it right there! cheesy 'Ghato' may be a word that exists in Igbo language, but it does not mean the same thing in Bini language!! Would the Bini use a word that means "will be stuck," in their salutation to the king? cheesy Ise means 'Amen,' and is also widely used among several ethnic groups in the Niger-Delta, not just by the Igbo.

If Bini descended from the Igbo, then Igbo cultural influence would have existed among the Bini, and it would be quite obvious to third parties, especially when it comes to customs, traditions, names, traditional music, marriage rites etc.

With regards to the cultural influence, it is their but u have to take into consideration that yorubas are in the mix and they have an input too.

He's correct on that premise...we're all called ika Igbos before and during the war. After the war,the name gradually came to be used on the clans inhabiting the Western parts of Anioma. Here's a 1931 map of the tribes in Igboland backing that up....thats why we laugh to scorn those of them who woke up after the war to claim they're now Bini undecided

Ok then. Thank you for explaining it to me. It seems that the Europeans just grouped the whole area together without paying attention to the differences between the various groups. I've noticed that they put Ogbaru under Onitsha.

All Anioma dialects are understood by Anioma. It's funny you're asking someone who doesn't know shit about Anioma to explain this to you. Igbanke is not the only Ika speaking community in Edo. There are lots of Anioma communities in Edo but some of them are bilingual. From Ekpon to Ughomose, Igbogiri, Abudu, Owa RI Uzor, ogan, Iru speak Ika language. Even farther Down deep inside Edo, Ika is spoken as a second language. If you include Ika speakers in Edo State, Enuani speakers are not more than us.
Guy...is that not the HQ of orhiomwon LGhuh Or are you now trying to claim orhiomwon as Ali Ika?
