Systematic Stripping Of The Church Under Buhari

By Favour Afolabi

As you go to church this morning, and as a CHRISTIAN, do meditate on my next line of thoughts.

It was the CHRISTIANS that largely produced this new government with ‘their body language’ and now ‘The Most Senior CHRISTIAN LEADERS’ in Nigeria [including Pastor Tunde Bakare, who carried the placards around the nation for the emergence of this new government] are being asked, via an OBNOXIOUS Law that was inserted through the backdoor into the Nigerian Constitution to STEP DOWN from leading the brethren in their churches in Nigeria!

When you ask Pastor Adeboye, Bishop Oyedepo, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, Pastor Kumuyi, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Pastors Adefarasin, the elder and the younger ones, Bishop Okonkwo, Pastor Ashimolowo, Pastor Adeyemi, etc – all who have led their ministries for ‘the stipulated 20 years’ from leading their churches, the obvious question is “What is left of the leadership of the church in Nigeria?”

When you enact a law that says “a church leader cannot hand over the leadership of his ministry to a family member’, you ask yourself – so what becomes of how so many of such examples occurred in the Bible? And what becomes of the story of the Hagins? And many others?

The elitists Christians in Nigeria have always applauded as the church is stripped in Nigeria – they were happy when ‘Christian businessmen were being stripped of the leadership of the banking industry’ – they didn’t mind as scores of churches were being burnt and hundreds of Christians killed in the aftermath of the 2011 elections pogrom; they have been silent as another round hundreds of Christians are being killed in Northern Nigeria; they ask critical questions of why a governor listened to security reports to remove students from class in the largely non-Christian environs but rejected such advice by keeping the largely christian community Chibok in their classes leading to the abduction of the Chibok Girls – the elites in the Nigerian church movement are very good at speaking ‘very big English’ – they are always super intellectuals on all subjects but obviously ‘lack critical wisdom of the place of the church in Nation States.’

They love to quote examples of how things are done around the world BUT when it comes to standing up for the CHURCH in Nigeria, they soon become quiet and when they are loud begin to even justify such atrocities against the church in Nigeria.

It is very important to ask the question – “where were all the hashtags as this ere being passed in Nigeria?” No, our Christian brethren were still very busy, chasing on Twitter “the missing Billions” – the monies that would never be transferred to their bank accounts when recovered – for which they will get no contracts awarded to them. Of course, it is also these Christians that major “on the opulence of Pastors” – that seems to be their one goal in life – to making sure their Pastors become paupers – what a life ambition to have as a Christian?

Of course, Politicians, in Nigeria, have always “believed that the CHURCH was growing with too much influence” – they have always been afraid of the CROWDS we pull together, for free, which they, have ‘to pay stolen monies to get’; they have always been afraid of our Prosperity, which, they see, we get without toil, as they do; and they have always wondered how they can ‘pocket’ the church; and our brethren have stood by, applauding them as they do such things because they are the ones that provide the online materials for the ridiculing of the Church in Nigeria – well, to these ones, I say, it is time for you to brace up for the leadership of the Church in Nigeria – you have very big shoes to fill so you had better begin ‘to fast and pray’, away from your ‘DSTV Sessions.’

To the larger Christians in Nigeria, I say “Congratulations!”

I thank the Holy Spirit for always being my WITNESS on these matters – HE knows that I have never found myself on the side of such display of cheap populism in Nigeria.

Before you comment on this thread answer this question

1. which Muslim leader will be affected by this law with the exception of Elzakzaky which the government of Sheik Buhari wants to destroy

2. When did Buhari become the Holy spirit who decides who should lead the church and for how long

3. Does this laws strips Christians of the opportunity to determine how they wish to be led

4. How many imams will yield to any law of succession in their mosques contrary to Qur'anic prescriptions

When I told people that Osinbajo is useless when it comes to protecting the church and defending the its rights many did not believe , Southern Kaduna Christians who were massacred over 800 of them in one night is a clear example

May God intervene in Nigeria In Jesus Name

When was the law establishing the FRCN passed?

The problem with people like you and the author of this trash is crass ignorance born out of hatred for the president. Buhari has nothing to to with the law that stipulates that leaders of registered NGO's cannot lead the organisation for more than 20 years, the law was passed before he became president.

When Soludo was CBN governor, he pushed for a similar legislation that prohibits managing directors of banks from staying in office for more than 10 years. It is not a big deal or targeted at any religion like myopic minds like you guys want us to believe.

Op when ignorance mixed with bias like garri mixed with sands it becomes incurable disease.

The FRC was sign into law by Jonathan government, and there's no where it's mentioned anytime that Buhari mandated the enforcement just that Adeboye is taking the step to apply it, you didn't even know about the law before now so stop exposing your ignorance.

Before opening a thread aimed at rubbishing a particular government, its very sinful not doing a background check of what led to this.. Bearing it in mind that it didn't happen out of the blues, it was a process that snow-balled to this status-quo..

Please take a look at what the law said..remember as insubstantial our law is, its still the law guiding us..Before a law/act is been promulgated, it can still be repelled, but immediately its been promulgated, it becomes a law to guide!!!

The Law

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) of Nigeria, Code of Corporate Governance, took effect from Monday, October 17, 2016. The aspect of the law, Non-For-Profit Organisations (NFPOs) Governance Code, 2015, which Adejare implicitly referred to, seeks to promote the highest standards of corporate governance. The following are stated in Section 9, which deals with “Position of the Founder or Leader”:

“9.1. The Founder or Leader of a NFPO occupies a special position in the Organisation and is committed to the success and longevity of the NFPO. Accordingly, a Founder or Leader should not take on too many responsibilities in the organisation or have an indefinite term in the running of the organisation.

“9.2. Where for any reason, a Founder or Leader of NFPO also occupies any of the three governance positions of Chairmanship of the Board of Trustees, the Governing Board or Council, and the Headship of the Executive Management (or their governance equivalents), the following provisions shall apply before the end of the organization’s financial year in which this Code takes effect.

“9.2.1. The Founder or Leader shall cease to occupy these three governance positions simultaneously. This is to ensure the separation of powers and avoid possible concentration of powers in one individual.

“9.2.2. The Founder or Leader may however choose – subject to the agreement of the organization’s apex authority as expressed in the Annual General Assembly, Annual Meeting, Annual Stakeholder Engagement, Annual Conference, Annual Synod, Annual Fellowship Assembly or their equivalents – only one of these three governance positions subject to his current tenure. This is to ensure a clear division of responsibilities at the head of the organization between the running of the governing body and the executive responsibility for the management and fulfilment of the organization’s mission.

“9.3. Where the Founder or Leader has occupied all or any of these three governance positions for more than ten years, or is aged seventy years or above, the choice

in section 9.2.2 above should only relate to the Board of Trustees as in section 9.4(c) below. In the case of religious or cultural organisations, nothing in this code is intended to change the spiritual leadership and responsibilities of Founders, General Overseers, Pastors, Imams and Muslim Clerics, Presidents, Bishops, Apostles, Prophets, etc. which are distinguishable from purely corporate governance and management responsibilities and accountabilities of the entities” According to records, only 89 out of the 23, 216 registered churches in the country complied as at last year. Section 39 of the Code deals with “Sanctions“39.1. Compliance with the provisions of this Code is mandatory. Accordingly, violations of the provisions of this Code will occasion both personal sanctions against the persons directly involved in the violation, and sanctions against the NFPOs involved in such violation. “39.2. Where sanctions have been imposed on any NFPO or person for the violation of this Code, the NFPO is precluded from making any reimbursements to that person for the sanctions.”

Lastly, before we delve at the neck of the government, let's ask ourselves these questions!!!

What has your church done to help you in the past 12 months.?

How has the churches in Nigeria come to the aid of the suffering masses during this recession?

How much of your income has gone into the church?

Has your pastor ever called you and demand for your account Number as a way of helping your current situation!

The pastors will always be quick to quote bible verses instructing members to pay offerings and tithes and the evil that will befall their finances with failure to do so!!!
They will never preach how JESUS CHRIST fed 5000 people with five loaves of bread and 2 fishes.

I am waiting for the period when churches will begin to pay Tax!!!

What sort of crap is this? People will just rise up from no where to create conspiracies that may flare up unnecessary bickering among the religious.

A law that was made far back in 2011 when Buhari was not even the president, someone still found a way to rope him in.

Why are people ignorant and dumb?

And in fact, what is wrong in passing the mantle of leadership to someone else after a stipulated time or years. This just goes to prove what others have been saying that these pastors are nothing more than kings in their palaces and their congregation serving them. If not I see no reason why there should be an uproar simply because leadership duties have changed hands.

Since the churches decided to get involved with the government by creating a retirement scheme for pastors then they have to dance by the tune of what the government says. I wonder when pastors now get retirement schemes, who was paying them before?

I'm not a buharist but this theories coming up reeks of ignorance and crass illiteracy. undecided

people like you are the reason for discords amongst religious entities and ethnicity. All these lies you carefully crafted for your dumbassed followers without brain.

First, the law is for every religious body and NGOs. It is even long overdue.

Second, dollar was sold for 197NGN for Muslim pilgrims and 160NGN for Christian pilgrims.

https://www.thecable.ng/presidency-no-discrimination-christian-pilgrims-also-bought-dollar-for-n160

You didn't cry at that time...

You are the useless one here. The law is ling overdue. You people are thieves. You register churches and mosques as NGOs but would collect tithes amd donations of the poor to build and empire that they can't afford, and the same the you would hand over to your generations as money making ventures-

Go and kill yourself.

Four your fucking info, I am a Christian but not an idiot like your followers. You thieving lots!
