Why are the pentecostals and not the Catholic Church crying foul as regards this law implemented by Gej admin since 2011? Well truth is their is a difference. The Catholic Church administration already governed by Canon laws. In the Catholic Church a bishop of a diocese must submit a letter of retirement to the Pope on attaining the mandatory age of 75 whether his episcopate in the particular diocese is 20 years or not. The Catholic Church already has it own structure which many of the pentecostals are lacking. In centuries past when the Catholic Church had undue meddling in politics, the repercussions were grave...it even affected elections of popes a situation whereby emperors /kings tru their legates could veto elections of popes if it not their candidates. The church had to take a stand against the interference of states in her affairs during the papacy of Pope St Pius X In the early part of the 20 century though wit this action of hers, she Lost so much in earthly property but gain much in spirituality in her severance from centuries of church-states relationship. This culminated in the italo-vatican Concordat of 1920s making the Vatican a sovereign state. So the pentecostals have to toe the line of the mother church by putting in place succession plans, regulations and water down on material acquisition preachings.
In all honesty this law isn't applicable to the Catholic Church cos it already governed by Canon laws. The Catholic Church can stand on its own...the redeem church, winners Christ embassy etc put together are less than 1% of global catholics n 10% of Nigerian catholics. Put your house in order and stop roping in PMB government because of innate hatred.

You will get to know a man's true mien when he's under pressure! Now a discerning mind will see the reasons for the Pastor's outbursts when he went to visit Fayose in Ekiti a while ago!
The truth is that the government cannot afford to leave the poor masses under the whim and caprice of our religious leaders! Though, the masses are gullible and sometimes outright stupid when it comes to matters of religion, they still need to be protected!
The truth is that people are being exploited by the religious leaders who have turned it into a family enterprises!
God bless you. Gullible and stupid need government protection. Shikena!

Pastor Adeboye just obeyed the law of the land but it is unfortunate that Govt is deciding how church is to be administered, really unfortunate.

If only the churches were focused fully on the gospel without hidden agendas and greed. God will judge.

Being a christian shouldn't make me stupid and ignorant..

Of course the government ought to have started checking the church business for quite a long time ago and this reality is a bad news for him and his brothers.

Check the streets, still wonder why we got more churches everywhere than industries.

Check less religious countries or athiest countries, see how developed , peaceful, good and better they are doing.

Our nation is still generally at a bad state even as na we pray pass. Are we cursed with foolishness and ignorance?

Iffa hear say God no dey bless me and my family as i no dey pay tithe to one pastor.. The bible have become twisted in their own favor

In essence you think the church is responsible for the underdevelopment or slow development of Nigeria.

To all readers and commentators compliment of the season,i am not a fan of Buhari or the present FG. Neither am i a fan of RCCG or any religious outlet. The fact is that, this law was enacted long time ago in 2011 and the CAN sued the FG but they lost.Since then, there have been a lot of appeals but the final verdict came out sometime late last year..In a nutshell, with the type of religious settings in Nigeria, where a whole lot of church goers are being robbed daily by the so called MEN OF GOD that were never even called by the devil,i see no meaningful development in the Country. Thanks to all..

Mr Man, here are your answer;

1: The church is a registered entity with the corporate affairs commission, so the church must obey the laws of the land, if the church bodies lost in court to prevent the implementation of the law then the law needs to be implemented. So what are you saying about God and RCCG here? So if a church builds on a pipeline and the government directs them to demolish the church building does it mean the churchs' spiritual goal is what is being attacked here?

2: Who are the "they" you said are complaining? The church or the federal government? The federal government isn't complaining, they have enacted a law and the church has to follow it, its the church members who are complaining, is the church mainly concentrated on whoever leeds the church administratively? Our spiritual goals is what is key, I would shout as a Christian when the federal government says Christians shouldn't pray in public or attend church services openly, what's the fuss about making the church appoint a new administrative head after 20 years? If the church is credible and transparent something like this shouldn't be an issue.
Your points are valid and quite objective. As you said, the church members are the ones who are complaining, and my initial post was mainly to tell them to shut up (with all due respect to them) because they had a man up there (VP) and he claims to be powerless to act. The law is ostensibly for Christian, Muslim, and other not for profit organizations, but we all know at the end of the day only Christians will be affected. Just like Christians are being killed all over the country and no one is doing anything.
Of what use is sponsoring a pastor to the helm of affairs if he can't be of any help to the Christian faith? Now his own people are the first to be affected.
No one seems to see anything wrong with the law itself. Tomorrow the government'll tell churches to start paying tax. Or start interfering with how church leaders are chosen. or when to hold services. Or haven't you heard about what that fulani herdsman who calls himself governor of Kaduna is already doing?

You should ask why GEJ at the first place created and passed such a law. You really need to read about why the law is taking effect now. The court just gave a judgement for the law to be effective after CAN challenged it at the court. My 2 cents for you is, don't be misled based on religious matter. Buhari regime has no hand in this.
That is the problem. Where were all the Christian lawmakers when the law was being passed? They saw nothing wrong with it then. Now that the head has been cut it's too late to cry

If the VP is not a Christian, people would say muslims are deliberately targeting the churches. If as a VP, he can't fight against a supposedly wrong law against the religious houses, esp churches, then he must not have seen anything wrong with the law.

Personally though, I do not see how the law helps the economy. No one should interfere with religious house so far they aren't breaking the law in any way.

The law was made in 2011, CAN and other Christian leaders went to court to fight it but lost out. I think the final verdict came last year.

dnt get it wrong the law was never made in 2011. An act was formed in 2011 to review the operations of the FRCN and churches and non profit organisations were included. It was May 2015, the act was reviewed and then tenure of church and non profit organisations were brought on board. The churches took d case to court and then the case was suspended until October 2016 the court verdict on d case was delivered and the churches lost.

Do Muslims have general overseers like Christians?!
The both religions were only put there to give it a semblance of balance. We all know who the law was actually for.
Re: "FG Is Increasingly Meddling In Church Affairs" - Pastor Adeboye by okpurukata(f): 7:38pm On Jan 09, 2017
I see nothing wrong with this law. The 20yrs tenor is long enough for any founder of an NGO or church to impart whatever teaching and pass on to another. This will ensure continuity, accountability and the reduce the craze for wealth. A church or mosque should not be woven around an individual. The Nigerian Pentecostal system actually needed to be checked.

My fear now is that the GOs and founders will make sure they empty the church treasury into their personal accounts before they ever hand over. Just tell me how Chris Okotie, Oyakhilome, TB Joshua, Ibiyeomie will hand over all their billions to another person to manage. No way.
Accountability is key.

Thanks

Even though I'm a Christian, that shouldn't mean I should be ignorant of reality.. I don't see anything bad with the government meddling into the affairs of the church. This is what the ought to have been doing

Go to other developed countries and you will see that the govt regulates almost everything. It's only an over religious country like Nigeria that sees government interference in church matter as anti-christ

At last, the FRC director who initiated the law had been sacked today by Buhari himself. When Baba Adeboye was saying all this, Osinbajo was there. It took less than 48hours for the man to receive his sack letter. That shows how powerful Baba Adeboye is.

Here we go, this is the only language Nigerians understand....religiosity!!! Emotion will start running now, how dare FG legislate "anti-church" law, the only place that encourages their laziness! Is It Church Business To Build Industries?

Is It By Force That You Go To Church Or Subscribe To Any Religion?

When Have You Ever Read That The Government Decides For The Islamic Council Of Nigeria, Or The Sultan Or Any Other Religion, Say Traditional, Etc?

A lot of people live under the bridge and slum( poverty ) .. Not once or twice I had to control myself not to cry..... There is this slum it's under the bridge with a lot of woods ( the ones used for electrical poles) and I know people lives there...... We Nigerians are so blinded by our love for religion and tribalism and it is killing us .. It makes me wonder y we keep building churches and we are not developing as a nation(it only means one thing we are practicing religion and tribalism wrongly).
