Many of us are usually disinterested in what we already have at hand. We place so much value on that which seems distant, foreign and kind of strange, even if it worth lesser in value in comparison with that which is in our clear gaze and familiar.

We love mystery and novelty. Social media adds that sense of foreign clouds to our image. We want to know more about the other person we've not yet known. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

When chatting with someone online, it's like you are in a closed room alone together which is very tempting. And the times of these chatting are usually at delicate hours when nerves are relaxing; then, the cognition to discern is usually compromised. We gradually lose our guards and our natural defense mechanism becomes lowered.

As time goes on we become comfortable with the other person and the desiring to hear daily from him or her increases. At this point the emotions and bodily feeling are engaged. And we become fond of each other. When emotion enters logic disappears. Those who are in a committed relationship should be careful and mentally alert at all times when chatting online, because it only takes a process for cheating to take place and the process is just as simple as this.

Our innately curious trait would want to play along and to see to the where the matter will end. We feel flattered by the attention being showered online. The ease with which messages are passed across is like a pressure which is hard to resist. And where ever attention goes energy flow. We found ourselves thinking about this particular person who has been trying hook our attention online. But then it's too late.

There are rules to everything. If you want to remain faithful to your partner you need to abide strictly by those rules and especially that of the social media. Do not think that you are strong. Learn to know where the devil comes in and avoid them.

Because behind a screen and armed with a keyboard, people can seem different that they actually are in real life. Same thing for everybody on nairaland. Some people who seem awesome here are really anything in real life.

Based on my own experience, I think it's because you get to know more about the person before things begin to move fast. Friendship before relationship.
