Its like they gave the job to a trainee journalist LOOOOL. I just saw the NAIRALAND part.

Fyorgyn:

Interesting article!

Wetin catch my eyes though na the many flaws in the writing and editing of the article (right from the headline)

One would think that it is only Nigerian "papers" that don't bother to edit properly... The article wasn't properly edited...not the first time daily mail is riddled with so many flaws. Gone are the days when we read papers to improve our vocabulary!

That is by the way sha... hehe

People still dey go born for UK? shocked

It is a disgustingly annoying article. There was no message just a racial bigot rambling on and on about NHS! Nigerians who know whats up dont go to the UK to give birth. There is no benefit whatsoever so why even risk it? I think Justwise and Seun need to set that story straight and put that journalist in his place. Rubbish!

TripleKMama:
TKM Snr & Jnr Update: End of Missionary journey.

Hi everyone. I've looked forward to writing Dis for long but time wont just let me. Truly, everything changes when baby shows. I arrived Abuja on d morning of Jan 12 to the glory of God. I salute baba God for victory. Nobody else to take dis glory! He deserves my praise o!
In dis journey, I was duped of N2m on my birthday in december and also had a near-fatal car crash (car is a write off!) but TKM snr & Jnr are all alive and well. no scratch!
I'll share my trip summary, delivery story and tips for anyone to learn cos I learnt a lot! I'll occasionally modify d post to add anytin I rmbr but PM directly for details if necessary.
DELIVERY
I initially planned using st peters NJ as a relative was to take my delivery (totally waived ObGyn fees for me) but on arrival, I discovered more hidden fees at st peters so I started considering my plan B seriously. Apart from Vag delivery of $8000 and CSS $12,000, oda Fees included extra day for mum $1800 and extra day for baby $1300. I couldn't do dat so I decided to opt out. Eventually did St Mary's (thanks to Funtolash for all d tips & details). Vag delivery $4000 and CS $5000.
My delivery breakdown.
Dr Fares $2000
Pediatrician (Dr Zamani) thru Dr Fares office $750 inclusive of all baby's hosp assessment.
Hosp fee for CS $5000 inclusive of hosp tests.
Anesthesia $1000 (sent to u by post after discharge)
SSN applied for at d hosp along wit Birth Cert.
Birth Cert ready & collected at town hall 4 days after discharge (I applied monday & collected Friday). $10 per copy.
SSN arrived 3wks after birth. In between, I commenced applyin for USA passport by post. Paid $160 for expedited (came in post after 9days). Was told expedited was 2-3wks but regular application 6weeks. Since it will enter Xmas period, I did expedited. Adding USPS speed post, passport foto fee of $15, everythin came up to around $220. It was well worth it cos it took d stress of carryin baby to NY off me. Not too mention logistics.
Did visa on arrival (thanks to Desoul). I was supposed to obtain d visa at Abuja airport but nobody asked me and I was too exhausted. To do ajayi for dat one. Na how TKM snr save $200 dat day o (as I already paid $200 for extra lugGage at JFK) so dat was a consolation for me.

Infant ticket with BA $267. They insisted baby's ticket is 1 way saying that's d remaining part of d trip as baby must be attached to an adult. Paid at d airport on departure.
On board bassinet was provided, air hostesses were nice n helpful.
how come the immigration officials allowed you to pass without paying the $200 visa fee,
Talking abt excess luggage, I was fortunate to meet considerate staff at d airport. I inevitably checked in 9 items. Don't know how dey charged me for only 1. No be God? Plus stroller, car seat and base.
General Tips.
1. Pls don't Go alone if possible. It always helps. If u can afford it. I enjoyed d help I Got from my sister even tho because baby came 4wks early,it meant my sis eventually came "late" but still very helpful.
2. U need post delivery care especially after CS.
3. Open many new accounts and travel wit ATM cards. Walmart,Kmart, Burlington and many other small stores (Burger King etc) accept naija Viisa or mastercard at N325 per dollar.
4. Access Bank Atm is d best -until proven otherwise.
5. Uber and Lyft are ur best friends.
6. Amazon baby registry is da bomb!
7. Use ur naija visa cards to buy stuffs, return and request cash refund. Dat way, u get dollars at Good rate in exchange for ur naira.
8. Ask for help anytime.
9. Pray. Pray. Pray. Have faith wen u pray!
10. Be confident you will succeed.
pls kindly go back to the airport and do the needful at the bolded.thank you.

Please I'm very New here and I have a couple of questions concerning travelling to the US to give birth.
1. Do I need to present my own bank account statement at the interview since my husband is sponsoring the whole trip or can I be asked to present it?
2. Does the length of stay I filled in the DS 160 form need to tally with my hotel reservation confirmation.
3. I have paid all my hospital bills as at now so it's remaining funds for the other things like feeding, accommodation etc. Is it a problem if I don't have the funds for that before the interview?? But I will definitely have it before traveling.
Thank you

You will run into issues when getting the Nigerian passport for TKM junior because the naija passport agency will ask you 'on what documentation did he enter the country'.

I don't think you understand how much tourist abuse healthcare system here and leave without paying a penny.

The Nigeria lady left £350,000 hospital bills unpaid and in 2011 another Nigerian lady gave birth to quintuplets and left £145,000 unpaid.

You called people complaining racist?

There is a thread here about giving birth in UK though that thread disappeared as people don't fancy the idea, so i don't know where the journalist got the nairaland aspect of that article

I think I still stand by nerf's opinion. There is absolutely no benefit in giving birth in the U.K. and they know that. That is why the so called thread disappeared I was in the U.K. With a twin pregnancy at 28weeks and nobody asked me any questions when I was entering because tourists seldom go there to give birth. I found that article rather too personal ,unprofessional and absolutely mischievous. Why should the writer go to the extent of mentioning somebody's name? I think that Ayelabola woman should sue them. It is nothing more than defamation of character. kilo de gan to the extent that they put her pix with her children abeg make them free that woman joor abi na jelosy wan key them?

Sue the newspaper for stating the fact? Defamation of character? Before you encourage her to sue the newspaper first ask her to go and pay her bills.

Her visa does not entitled her to use the NHS but she did and she was treated but failed to pay her bills and you are here talking about suing the newspaper and defamation of character.

Do you still wonder why the UK stopped citizenship by birth?

Will you be treated in any hospital Nigeria without paying or making a deposit first?

I won't want to join issues with you on this matter but I know there is always two sides to a coin.yoy have not heard her own side of the story. I just said I was in the U.K. With a twin pregnancy at 28weeks of course not to give birth. It was summer and I had to attend my nieces graduation what if I had fallen into labour at that time wouldn't they have treated me? There are no private hospitals there like we have here so I wouldn't have a choice but to use the NHS.They wouldn't even send you the bill for ages. So she should stay there and continue to wait for their bill to come? It's a lapse in their system and they should find a way of correcting it instead of crying wolf where is non.

You will be treated on arrival until you are well enough to leave and will not be forced to pay the bill before leaving. This is not the issue here, i just found your support of people abusing the healthcare system shocking.

U should have waited until u get your visa before paying those bills in full, but all the same it might help your application in a way. Then to your questions.(1) Since your husband is the sponsor, his statement of account is the most important and u can add yours too if u are earning some salaries or if have some money in your account as well,it will add weight to the money u prepared to spend on your Childbirth trip. (2) Both dates are supposed to tally together,at least for the success of your interview first, then its not a must that u will stay in the hotel.(3) Its a problem, because they always want to see that u are fully prepared for your trip both financially and otherwise to convince them. Atleast since u have paid your Hospital bills in full, make sure that U and your husband have atleast a reasonable amount in your Bank accounts, It might not be that big, then u can start to explain the rest to the VO that u will be ready with the rest before your departure date. Not going there with empty Bank statement of account and tell the VO stories. US visas is all about what VO sees with u there and not something that they didnt see or know if they exist or not. GoodLuck!!

(I stand corrected) but i don't think a change of intent letter would do your friend any good, she stands the risk of being deported if she meets a strict cbp officer at poe, because she is not using her visa for the purpose it was issued for.
Why chose a difficult poe when your case is already a complicated one? If she must go,i Will advice her to enter through New York and take a local flight to Houston.
But again, she just might be lucky and get in ,who knows?

Virginia is only a few minutes drive from Washington. That's the closest airport you can arrive.

You can present yours too just for support but your husband's has to be major.

yes, DS 160 details has to be tally with your hotel reservation.

the major has to be hospital n doc. bills which you already settled so, the rest is secondary.

wish u all the best with ur interview.

cheers.
