I ran a scan yesterday and the result came out with these codes.

1. P0732 Transmission Gear #2

2. P1780 O/D Control Switch O/D Cancel

3. P1487 EGR Check Solenoid Circuit Malfunction

The Technician advised I do an Oil Change. It got better but the O/D light still blinks once in a while.

Weldone guys, keep it up. My Lexus RX 300 gear is slack and only the drive button works perfectly. Reverse, park, neutral and not working. I checked the car now and it's not even starting again and the gear is still slack. What could be the problem. Your advise is urgently needed.

Thanks in anticipation

@Autowiz:

Weldone my brother. You guys are going a great job. I am a victim of a bad transmission for the first time and am not finding it funny at all.

First the vehicle make is a toyota corolla 2001.
The gear is a 3 pin gear.

The problem was simply oil got finished from the gear leading to the car revs up to like 2k plus which i later learnt it led to burnt fiber. I later got another Holt atf and rhe gear started working again. After some days, the same problem started again and this time around, worst on reverse alone. The reverse doesnt move an inch. So i managed the car to ladipo and got a complete replacement of the gear box.

After the replacement done with 8 litres of holt atf which remained little, i started enjoying the gear again and everything seems fine both reverse. Like two weeks later, i noticed when the car is hot, the gear doesnt select and it will just be raising and after few minutes, it will pick again, i became sceptical and i requested for an oil change. Cos it really dissappointed me at ikoyi one day when it refused to move. After the oil change it started working again. Last week i went to sagam with same car, i noticed at some point it will just rev and not move and later it will work again, i managed the car back home and the following morning, couldnt move in reverse but i can hear it enter. Drive works well but the oil smells burnt. I called a friend in ladipo market and he sent a gear expert down and the gear was dropped by my mechanic, checked and they discovered the reverse fibre was completely burnt and rings were all bent. He also said the drive fiber is gradually packing off. (This is on the gear i got two weeks ago) so he brought the two fibres today and got the gear cleaned up and fibres replaced, previous oil drained off and flushed, i paid him and he left because of the rain. After reinstalling the gear and new 8 litre oil (holt dextron II) used. On testing tbe car, i discovered that the drive was ok and everything selected fine but the reverse still did not move. We jerk the two front tires and place it on reverse and the weels are rolling gently gently backward.

The first day i noticed the high revs in motion, a check engine light came up and i scan it immediately, i got this errors p0500 and p0770. I cleard them off and they didnt reoccur.

Pls what exactly is wrong with my car that made the reverse not to work. I have spent so much money replacing gear and oil and this same problem persist. I called the gear expert today after i discovered that the reverse still didnt work, he promised to come along with some materials that he is going to change under the gear that he doesnt need to remove the gear down. I am tired, i have never had gear challenge since i have been using different cars. Pls assist with ur expertise and experience of a possible solution. As for tbe gear, i fink it is fine since the drive works perfectly and select well. Are there any sensor that controls reverse. I will do a new scan tomorrow and send to you. Immediately we finish installing the gear after the fiber was replaced today, the check engine light came up but i wasnt with my scanner. I will have the car scanned and forward hhere tomorrow morning.

Pls note things i have done:

-Replaced atf in the old gear after it got dried.
-They said the gear got burnt and i did a replacement to a new tokunbo gear
-The new gear started working fine and after two weeks, it will be reving high in motion and car will not move well. After parking the car, reverse did not move but D still can move.
- fiber replaced today (drive and reverse fibers) and gear cleaned and old oil drained.
- new atf replaced and test drive, car workd well on drive and gear selected but on reverse, car did not move.

-You will have the new error codes this morning wen i go to scan the car again.

Thanks

Does your car drive in L? Sure your inhibitor switch is good? (well, driven wheels should not turn at all if the ECU doesn't know when you are in reverse).

Burnt clutch is only a symptom. Replacing it without determining root cause is not the way to go. If your transmission specialist is capable, let him check for the pressure in the first/reverse brake. First, see if you can drive in L.

Goodluck.

Thanks boss, i will have him check this tomorrow unfailingly. Pls i need more response from the house. I have spent alot on just a car that did not move on reverse. When we remove the two front tires and placed it on reverse, the two tires were rolling back but once tire is there, the car doesnt move at all. I promise to scan the car again after the transmission rebuild and still did not enter reverse. Find attached is the error code i got. I will also get back to you on this drive in L by tomorrow.

Please can this error code P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor make a car not to reverse while drive is working perfectly

Once again Thank you

Please my Transmission and Gear Experts kindly assist,

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry which i bought Tokunbo in 2011, mid last year , i experienced flooding which entered my vehicle during one of the rains.

After like two weeks of using the car , i noticed that my gear was not selecting well, when i took it to my Mechanic, he examined it and said that water entered the gear oil, then we bought ATF fluid and he replaced it and also changed the gear filter too. I have changed the ATF once after this service.

Fast forward to last week, I noticed that the Drive is not moving as throttled, I have to push the pedal so hard before it moves, the reserve is moving very sharp and is not affected.

I called my mechanic and he said that it is not what he can do, but will need to consult a gear expert who will change some parts necessary for the drive gears to engage.

I have parked it as I dont want further damage on the system and I dont have money now to embark on any expensive repair service.

Please what do you think is wrong and how best can i handle this to avoid creating more problems for my self.

Unfortunately, the transmission will go out. It was just a matter of time before the water took its toll. It is a kiss of death. The friction materials will flake off the disks. The harm is done already so, not driving it won't change that.

Your transmission is relatively cheap so, just brace up for a replacement.

Peace.

My car, Honda Accord 2005 model (4plugs) doesn't move on any of the "grin" gears except reverse gear.
What do i do?

Urgent help pls.

Kashif:

Engine coolant is mixing with your ATF! It is not a nice place to be so, take the car to a good mechanic as soon as you can. Have money for a replacement radiator ready as you do. If you cannot have the transmission rebuilt and torque converter replaced, you should be looking at a whole unit replacement.

Grace!

Hello Mr Autowiz,

Please I need your advice. I have a 2010 Toyota Camry LE (4 plugs, Auto Transmission) and had the gearbox replaced recently.

I observed that once the gear is placed in reverse, the car wont move but the drive gears work fine. I was introduced to "Gearbox specialist" who said he could fix the problem that he had to to replace the reverse section of the earlier replaced gear.

He fixed it and it worked only for two weeks, now the reverse motion problem is back and with other problems.

When changing from first to second gear, the car make a loud thud sound as if the engine wants to fall out after which it moves smoothly.

Please I need to know what exactly is the issue and what is the prospective solution.

Thanks for anticipated response.

He worked on the replacement transmission or the original? It is a little confusing.

How does its sport mode drive? Are you sure it is 1-2 or 2-3 bang? If 1-2, how does 5-6 behave? Again, how does S1 drive? Have you lost reverse completely again? Lets see if we have a diagnosis?

He worked on the replacement transmission. I have not tested the Sport Mode drive, pretty sure its during 1-2 gear shift that the noise occurs.

Yes, the reverse is completely gone again.

Thanks

Drive it in sports mode and let us know. I will be interested in knowing what happens in 5-6 and S1. If your original transmission lost reverse, and replacement is doing same, are you sure something electrical is not inhibiting reverse? Have you scanned?

Food Jon Bro, have been following your thread. obviously u are a guru.
pls I use a Honder Odyssey 2000 full option.
the gear developed problem of not been able to reverse and not engaging gear 2. my Mech advise I change the gear completely which I did. Now the new gear jack almost unnoticeable when engaging gear 2. Took it back, it was scan no error and D is not blinking. the Mech advise I flush the oando I'll we put after installing the new gear and replace with a more thick oil like seahorse dextrose 11 which I did still problem persist (I mean jacking almost unnoticeable when engaging gear 2).

later the Mech suspected the solenoid which he serviced and decoupled and there was lots of positive improvement.

my Qs is can it be the solenoid? if it is how much is the solenoid...though am just using the car as it is

Autowiz, Kashif, and other experienced people in the house

My car is a Toyota Camry 2000.

My gear drives and shifts fine at 2000-3000 rpm max with the odometer reading visible. But after some driving, the odometer reading disappears and the gear starts to rev up to as much as 4000r and over and won't enter the next gear.

After parking and putting off the engine for a few hours and restarting the engine, the odometer reading appears again and the gear drives and shifts fine as before.

I don't know what's going on, what should I probably look at??

Hello house,

I just stumbled across this thread, and it's just the right thing at the right moment.

I've got a Volvo S80 1999 which seems to be giving me tranny issues. Here's a description of the problem.

Engine starts...select drive...and car starts rolling. However, on a free road, it moves from gears 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 without any problem. However, if for any reason I have to slow down or stop, to move becomes difficult as the gear won't downshift to 1 to allow powered movement. I will have to accelerate hard to force the car to move. Better still, I restart the engine, and it starts again from 1 till it gets to 4 and gets stuck in either 3 or 4. But if I drive on inner roads where I don't get above gear 3, I don't experience that problem.

I scanned it, and I got these codes: P0751 and P1618, which suggests a stuck solenoid A or B or something. I have read about people who have changed their gear solenoids and that fixed the problem. How to get those solenoids and who will be willing to fix these solenoids are my challenge.

Does anyone here have any suggestions as to what to do?

I'll appreciate any counsel. Thank you.

Replacing the solenoid should solve you problem. But while you are at it. Check the transmission fluid level and service or replace the oil filter
