[quote author=zicoraads post=52981914]I can help with those who would want to teach English language or Geography in a private school in Minna. If you have little experience, your start up would be up to 60K. If you don't, we are looking at about 50k. The school has a lodge for those who just came to Minna and have no one to stay with. So if you get the job, you'll stay there for up to 6 months before you move to your own apartment.

If you stay around Abuja or a middle belt state, I'll advice you give it a try. And I would assist in my own little way in footing your transportation fare back to your base. Tenk![/quote

Please, help me with your contact. I have the requisite qualification for the job. Thanks in advance

Hi sis. Morning. The title of the thread says "what's your pain", so you shouldn't be surprised that many posts are 'pity seeking'. One describes a pain to show how 'pained' one is. This is not some competion to find out the best Cover letter or motivation letter
But I understand you. Please reach out to that sister. If she gets a job, that's one less individual removed from the statistics of the unemployed. God bless and and I extend my regards

Very mature response thus he need for me to revert. True, indeed very true that the title of the thread is actually 'Whats your pain'.

Judging from the quality of your response I can safely assume that you understand the value of perception in our society. The underlying reason for the wanton failure in our society especially as it regards the unemployment saga of the last two decades is primarily due to the archaic educational system inherited hook line and sinker from our colonialists which in turn has eroded the self confidence of many graduates. You cannot put people in school for 20 years and all you do is prepare them for 'employment' and then fail to provide opportunities. Our education does not provide for self reliance in any form.

Some fundamental re-positioning that is clinically precise must be effected. I would however add that despite this wobbly educational structure you still find a few people who have self developed beyond what the school system offers. It is this lot that luck is likely to smile on. And by the way, I draw from a well of personal experience in recruiting both entry level and middle level manpower for the private sector. An experience that spans 15 years.

We need to get our graduates to understand that they are as god as the knowledge they have which they can transform and not the grade registered on the piece of paper called a certificate.
And yes Sir, I have reached out to her.

I quoted you yesterday, but you didn't say anything, bro.
I'm sorry. But the qualification must be in the required subject to be taught. There is no way someone who read what you read will be allowed to teach English language.

Being a Job seeker hasn’t been easy at all. Just as if one was shot and seems very HELPLESS. The problem is not seeking the Job but is the helplessness and hopelessness you feel DESPITE making all efforts. Currently living in a house which rents expires this week, no cash at hand to even go to the nearest ATM supposedly God drops cash into my bank account, only one cup of rice left, much humiliations, been indoors feeling really down casted and discouraged. Most times, I pray to God to give me the grace to love Him in the good times because I feel that I can always (have faith) take care of the bad times. But is like I thought wrong because the level of frustration this year is more than I can bear. Name came out for navy but didn’t have just 3500 to travel for exams. It has been really tough

The thing is when you're young, you're adorable. But as soon as you get older, you're the most hated, forgotten person. You get called all sorts of names for little misunderstanding, mistakes or things that aren't really your fault. You can't really talk to anybody, to explain your side cos well no one would believe you, or understand, or care. So you swallow the pain inside & wake up to endure another wave the next day.

This year something gotta give! I'll only choose to focus my energy on being productive.

I've been applying for graphic design positions but only a few interviews & nothing after. I'm starting to wonder exactly what they require in a designer.

I'm inexperienced cos I was mostly self taught & haven't worked anywhere before.
I design with photoshop & use illustrator for logos & vectors. I'd appreciate it if someone could assist me in some way.

Hello all. My pain........ Hmm.. Not being given a chance to prove my self. My dream is to be a radio presenter. But opportunities are so hard to come by. It feels like if you don't know someone, or weren't referred by someone higher, nobody gives u a chance. I've tried to apply for unpaid internships, yet it doesn't work. I have some radio experience as a corper. (Passed out in october). Anyone who can help me here pls do. Even if its unpaid. I will volunteer, thanks

Am a fresh Geology graduate from FUPRE but have an NCE in physics and chemistry, left my well paying teaching job to go do my Bsc in Geology sometime I kinda regret nw. My challenge of recent is that I have submitted CVs and application letters to school so as to get back to my first love Teaching but non of the numerous schools have called me back. Infact I hardly see the head admin or teacher. In one the very few cases where I saw one he told me the truth which is that my CV may intimates prospective employer especially school owner. He said my CV is suited for big companies and not teaching. This is because of my wealth experience as teacher who has worked very close with the government before, a Geologist, a Surveyor and a sales consultant. I am currently thinking of striping my CV of many informations and details.... Who knew experiences in various endevours of life could be a curse....

Don't remove them from your CV. I also read education and one thing I recently realized is that schools prefer NCE to B.Sc/B.Ed because they cannot afford to pay them.

Words on marble. I had to read this over 10 times. Please can you explain more on the bolded

There is no news in the above statement. It is information that we all have slumbering subliminally.

I am persuaded to respond to your request for explanations because of my perception of the benefits some others may draw.

Whatever you read herein is my very personal opinion predicated on my experiencing this far.

Prior to independence the public service and industry was serviced by expatriates. The key roles were essentially handled by the foreigners. With the expansion of government in the colonies the bureaucracy grew bigger requiring more personnel especially at middle level management. It was practically impossible for more expatriates to be brought in considering the limitations of the home population and the fact that other colonies were also being serviced. Locals had to be trained to provide this level of manpower. Thus, the first graduates in not so wonderful disciplines.

As the clamour for independence heightened there was a need to prepare more local professionals for the system. Please note clearly that the primary goal of the pre-independence education was to provide staffing for the bludgeoning civil service and nothing else.

Fast forward to post independence Nigeria, our leaders continued with that model and I daresay that we still are producing manpower for employment with the only difference now being that we are producing for bouth government and the private sector.

Just about every undergraduate is seeing his certificate as a payslip. The education does not in any way prepare him for self-reliance. All you advised is to graduate in flying colours in order to have a fighting chance at getting a job.

In recognition of this failure successive governments have not taken any measure to arrest this development but all they do is to put palliatives in place. The palliatives are what they are; palliatives. Giving fresh graduates or unemployed youth 5,000 per month is ludicrous and reflective of a system bereft of ideas. You are not helping the individual beneficiary nor the society at large but just postponing doomsday.

I have been unemployed myself and have gone through the pain of an extensive job search with the attendant disappointments, outright deceits, and flagrant extortion among other vices. It just occurred to me one day that getting a job required much more than that. We are not even adequately prepared by the system for the search for a job. You need to see the resumes/profiles people send out in the search of a job.

If you really seek a job, you need to clear some cobwebs from your visual path. First thing being that sense of entitlement that is commonplace here in Nigeria. That you have a degree does not entitle you to a good job. That thinking was only obtainable in the past. It is now dead on arrival. Showcase whatever other skills you may have which can enhance your suitability for a job. I am aware of many examples where people are employed not primarily because of their qualification but more because of their skillset.

In a major food company you will be surprised that the Accountant that was eventually employed after a rigorous selection process was a lady with a B.SC in Economics, ATS qualification but most importantly she also had super baking skills and sugarcraft experience having worked in a major Cake shop in Lagos post O/Level and whenever she was on holidays.

To attract yourself the right job, you must be able to offer incontestable value at a reasonable price. If you cannot during the selection process, clearly and convincingly demonstrate the value you can bring to bear in the organisation then you are wasting your effort. If you have someone in the system who smuggles you in It is just a question of time and you will be either frustrated or relieved.

Big question is; What is your unique Selling point? Why should anyone employ you? let this question reverberate within you at all times leaving you with no peace until you can answer it clearly. Then you will be able to retool your c.v accordingly and seek opportunities where your value will be invaluable.
