Sorry I'm quoting a very old msg but I need to make reference to this!
This was some 3-4 months ago and this advice has really helped.

I appreciate you Skinny and everyone that has helped me reach this stage! God bless you richly!

I'm back this time and I think I have some good news this time. smiley

I got a mail from one of the schools you advised that I applied to that I've been accepted for a PhD Electrical Engineering. Super excited about it.

The only ish now is I was asked to send financial document before issuing I-20. Truth is I don't have such financial muscle

Anyways, I trust the Elders in the house to guide this "toddler" in the right direction

I must appreciate the indefatigable efforts of @Electronic aka my tutor smiley He's been very helpful and instrumental all through the application stages. He's also given valuable advice on how to proceed which I hope to act on from Monday but I'm open to more guidance; the more the merrier, right?!

I totally will love full funding or something very close.

PS: I've been in talks with the grad coord for a while and she's been of help too though most times pithy and not discussing things at length. Ive never discussed funding with her up till now because I felt it was sort of sensitive but now that the admissions' given, how do I proceed from here?

Also, I once mailed the particular Prof whose research aligns with mine before submitting my application but he never replied.

Should I mail him again, or reach out to even more outside my area of interest?

What should I do differently in the mail this time?

The school is U o Kansas, if that might help

Looking forward to your much esteemed guidance folks!

Congrats bro, i tap into your anointing. In my opinion i feel not only one professor decides admission and for you to be accepted for a long tern study like PhD, probably there's a match for you or someone got interested in you. PhD's are mostly funded, they are sure you would be contributing your quota of research to the school.

Contact the Grad coord sir. I'm optimistic that there's funding for you

Congrats once again.

To add to what I said earlier,
because you got funding does not
exclude you from filling the financial forms.
Only if you are being awarded a fellowship
or assistantship, you will not need a bank
statement with several thousand of dollars.
In my time, my statement had less than 1000
dollars and I ticked the TA option. Everyone has to filled that form as it is an immigrant requirement.

Don't start a grad program without funding no matter how highly rated that program is, especially a PhD it will be long and hard. Press further with other programs at other schools till you get the funding you are looking for.

I would love to help but unfortunately, right now I do not have some dollars to convert to naira. The modus operandi usually is, you pay in the equivalent of WES fee of $212 in naira into the Nigerian bank account of the reliable contact here in US, and they use their debit card/credit card (they have the dollars to spare but need naira) to log into your WES account and pay for you.

I guess I have explained the process well, for anyone who has dollars to spare willing to assist you.

Big thanks to scholastica16, happyday, sirRiddy, electronic, et al for ur suggestions with regards to my application at SDSU.

I emailed the grad coordinator stating those constraints discussed, and he reverted with a response that I can upload an unofficial copy of my transcript to make d process go forward. He further stated that I may be conditionally admitted if I satisfy their admission criteria, and d condition will be removed when d university receives the official copy at a later reasonable date.

Still, I got a mail from d Office of Grad Admission (after his response) stating that my application is incomplete and can't be forwarded to d department. Maybe I should inform d grad coordinator about d mail from admission office??

Yes you should forward his mail to them and still explain why he came up with that idea. Trust me, I did exactly this to one of the schools I applied to.

Good day Guys,

It

Return ticket to Denver = $586
Rent= $900/month, paid 2 months = $1800 (1 bedroom apartment close to bus station and grocery store. Most importantly, very close to Wing Stop, lol)
Cable & Internet- 150mbps (Comcast) = $99.99/month + $100 deposit since we didn't have SSN= $199.99
Power= Got this setup but expecting first bill in the mail in Sept. forecast $40/month
Security Deposit = $200
They had to do background check before signing the lease= $100 for the both of us (Never heard of this in Canada)
Stayed in Hotel on the first day = $135 + $12 parking + GST
Wifey registered for 3 courses which cost = $7500 ($2500 per course)
Health Insurance= $2660 for one year
Car rental= $56/day for 9 days, used EZ Rental = $504 + GST
House furnishing, student style which includes couch, tv, bed frame, mattrass, etc = $1800
Walmart shopping which includes grocery, pillow case, microwave etc = $386

Total expenses for the 9 day welcome trip cost roughly $15k

You spent wayyyy too much. I chalk it up to not being aware of the US system.
First wages are higher in the US and prices are higher.
Regarding your itemized expenses.

RENT : $900 is way too much. Most colleges have helped apartment complexes that are occupied by students. Look around well and you'd definitely find
something cheaper in a big city like Denver.

Cable and Internet : $199 is also outrageous.
I pay $35 for a solid cable package from playstation and my Internet is included in my rent. A lot of housing places have Internet in their packages and this is becoming the norm. If you visit Comcast website, they have loads of cheaper offers. I don't know about the deposit. Either way, if you have to pay a deposit, you'll get the money back.

School fees and insurance : American education is expensive and American health care is expensive. Bernie Sanders anyone?

If you looked around you would have found better cheaper deals on most of the things you listed above.

Overall, in the US, the pay justifies the expenses.

As in.
$56 a day for car rental. That number was so ridiculous that I googled car rentals from Denver Airport and it's like $15/day for a nice Hyundai Accent of Nissan Versa and if you stay for a week you get a bulk deal of like $70/5 days.
