joyContraMundum: Phaeze:Because your views are rather un-Nigerian. What was that comment you made? Ah, yes - you had said: "He might end up over-identifying with my person, my subjective ideas of right and wrong, and might even adopt my value system to an undesirable degree. I don't plan to mould my child in my own image or condition him to behave in the manner I approve, so the possibilities I've listed above are, for me, undesirable." You do not want your child to adopt your value system?? Strange. ![]() Secondly, you do not want to "condition him to behave in the manner I (sic) approve..." I had to shake my head at this one. Are you implying that it is wrong for him to seek your approval, or that your sense of approval is warped, undesirable or wrong, so it is not in his best interest to act in a way that meets with your approval? Your response contains a contradiction of sorts. |

laudate:NO parent has the right to brainwash, coerce, or intimidate a child. The truth is that many children only gain an illusory freedom from their parents. They are still hardwired to the same belief system and cultural values. They are still trapped. They are like a virus spreading their parents' beliefs, who in turn spread their parents' beliefs, and so on back to the dawn of the religions of mass brainwashing and mind control. To be free means to be free of ancient and deadly poisons. To develop according to your own nature, character and personality, without any interference. The only thing you're not free to do is to harm others either directly or indirectly. It is only at that point that YOUR FREEDOM CAN BE INTERFERED WITH REGARDLESS OF YOUR WISHES. If you want to harm yourself, I can do my best to persuade you from getting on with it. If you're engrossed in a self-destructive behaviour, I can call you out on your folly, inform you of the consequences, and give advices, hoping to snap you out of it. But I have no right whatsoever to coerce you into submitting to my will, to force you to follow my advice. That's tyranny. This is the proper definition of freedom. A parent's job is to lovingly raise free children, capable of maximising their potential and becoming heroes. It is never the job of parents to rigidly mould children in their own image. That is to treat children as a means to an end [so that a parent can revel joyously in narcissistically and selfishly gazing at its own reflection in its children] rather than as ends in themselves, free to become anything they want to be [as long as it poses no danger to the health and stability of the state], regardless of parental approval. A free society is one that prevents anyone from controlling children. A free society is one that does everything to allow children to be all that they can be according to their own unique characters and talents. The idea that children are appendages of their parents is anathema. That's why society and government should be explicitly constructed to smash any possibility of a child's life being rigidly controlled by any pathetic tyrant. For example, if a parent wants to be a Jew, a Christian, a Muslim, an atheist, a Gnostic, a rightist, a leftist, a Marxist, an Ogun worshipper or whatever, THAT'S HIS BUSINESS. He has no right at all to impose it on his child as if he's some petty tyrant. Children are not the glove puppets of their parents. They are people in their own right and must be treated as such. They must be protected from the brainwashing that brainwashed parents seek to inflict on them. The family, in some cases, has been a toxic breeding ground for neurosis and psychosis. Parents imagine that they "know" how to bring up their children better than anyone else. Really? Are they all psychological geniuses? Where are their parenting qualifications? How can they be sure that they are not inflicting huge psychological damage on their children? And if they can't be sure, shouldn't they be less arrogant about their "right" to do as they please with their offspring? The task of parents is to love, protect and nurture their children, to provide the environment in which they will flourish and reach the maximum actualization of their potential. It is not the job of parents to force their children into a rigid mould of parental, religious and social expectations. It is not the job of parents to bring up their children in their own image. It is not the job of parents to be dictators and tyrants over their children. Rather, they must be helpful guardians, guides and mentors. They shouldn't be in the business of trying to make them into "mini me's". "They Bleep you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you up with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you. But they were bleeped up in their turn By fools in oldstyle hats and coats, Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another's throats. Man hand on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can......." - Philip Larkin, This Be The Verse "We should listen more to children, communicate more with them, be friends with them, make them trust us, not hate us, deal with them kindly with love and understanding. Correct them with examples and kind words, relate with them the implications of their mistakes in their person, not threaten them. Beating a child won't solve the problem, but rather instill in them an anger that lingers, bitterness that stains, and fear that diminishes them" - John Williams, The Life and Philosophy of Johnydon22 CHILDREN ARE NOT PROPERTY. THEIR PARENTS DO NOT OWN THEM.THEIR PARENTS ARE NOT FREE TO DO WHATEVER THEY LIKE TO THEM. CHILDREN, LIKE NATIONS, SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BE SELF-DETERMINED. |

Phaeze:Your epistle is rather long. Nothing in my previous post mentioned anything about brainwashing, coercing, intimidating or using a heavy hand to raise kids. Neither did I advocate for kids to be turned into clones of their parents. But your response has revealed a few things. 1). You are obviously not a parent. ![]() 2). You had a rather poor relationship with your own parents. Maybe grew up in a rather dysfunctional setting. 3). You do not understand the importance of imparting the right values to your children. Neither do you understand the primary role that parents play, in imparting the right values to their kids. 4). You still have a long way to go, if you think kids that are freely left to their own devices will magically turn out right, without proper guidance, discipline and input from their parents or elders. ![]() |

laudate:In what way does that matter? 2). You had a rather poor relationship with your own parents. That's some assumption you made there. A rather stupid one though. 3,). You do not understand the importance of imparting the right values to your children. Neither do you understand the primary role that parents play, in imparting the right values to their kids. And your own values happen to be the right values, right? Our understanding of parental role are worlds apart, and yours is not the superior one. 4). You still have a long way to go, if you think kids should be left to their own devices and they will magically turn out right, without proper guidance, discipline and input from their parents or elders. In other words, you want to CONTROL and CONDITION your child to accept and live by your beliefs and viewpoints. Oh, perfect. |

laudate:I realised you were a tradition-directed African monkey, oh-so benighted and evidently endarkened, who isn't going to discard his primitive values and archaic orientations any time soon, so I thought I should give it up and argue no further, especially since you didn't even understand where I was coming from exactly. But what you wrote there is serious, so I'll give you the appropriate response. Since you didn't grow up in a dysfunctional setting, and had parents to inculcate in you the "right values", why then couldn't they make you intelligent, and receptive to new, better, rational ideas, no matter how alien? Why're you still this dumb? If they couldn't prevent you from being stupid, what important function did they serve? I ask that if this was ALL your "right values" parents managed to achieve, what then, exactly, was the point of people like them? |

Phaeze:now, , it is a parent's job and duty to raise up his child in a love filled environment. Does that mean a child shouldn't be corrected if he misbehave? Okay, lets say you have a child who steal or lies, because, you want the child to develop according to his nature or character, you will just pet your child and tell him, you are weldone, boy. that is your nature, continue in it. that is how you are mould, that is how you are created. No child, I repeat, no untrained child is useful to the society or his family. Why? Every child loves liberty and liberty is good but too much for kids is bad. Show them love, but don't spoil them. You might ask..how then can I show them love? You show them love by correcting them and impacting the right knowledge and attitudes into them. Every child has the tendercy to misbehave and will misbehave if not corrected when they are young. Let me end by telling you this. Pac i mean tupac, as great as he his, as brilliant and inteligent as he his, he lacked one thing and that is his father training and it shows in him(look @ d kind of life he lived). Ask those hooligans and they will tell you, when I was young, I have nobody to tell me what am doing is wrong and then I thought that is how things should be, or they say, my parents don't care or one of those things. too much over-sabi is bad. Philosophy has its advantages and but certainly, its disadvantages are higher. At the end, it makes someone looks foolish and stupid. |

onedayatime:Indeed. So all the hoodlums we see around didn't have parents who inculcated values into them. They had nobody to tell them what is "right" and that which is "wrong". And again, I'm surprised that you think when your child misbehaves, you should use a "stick", putting him in the same position as your goat. And never you call "untrained children"(whatever that means) useless. Some children discard their parents' archaic training and dinosaur values for rational reasons - to take on more enlightened character. It doesn't make them pariahs or criminals dangerous to state security. This is the 21st century. We should upgrade and put all these primitive orientations behind us. |

laudate:Oh, dear, I thought you were going to storm the thread and show me, concretely and to the latter, the benefits of exercising your right to impact the "right values" (which happen to be your own probably stupid and extremely limited, myopic worldview) into your child, and this crap was all you could pull? What a mental dwarf. I knew I wasn't going to trade my pants for the intelligence of a rigidly backward African monkey like you. Now, you want to play "the higher moral ground" by trying to scream civility? Sheezzzzz..... You're manifestly nuts and remarkably dumb to think I give a hoot what image of me you end up painting with such a pathetic strategy. So, there wasn't much to what your parents achieved? Nothing different? Nothing remarkable? Nothing unique in comparison to all that had gone before? Still the same old, same old? The same idiotic mantras the inane elders have screamed for ages, but have added nothing of the the tiniest magnitude to the advancement of society? What a dumb Bleep, child of the elders. So impertinent, yet has so much gall. What a cosmic jester. So much for having walked a long way, seen it all, and understood, to the tiniest detail, the role of parents. Unlike you, the bungling buffoon who froths at the mouth screaming crap, I'm a creator of values, a deviser of systems, one who trumpets enlightenment values, and thrashed into the grim dustbin of history, the crippled cretinous values your parents instilled in you. A machine manufactured by fools to come and promote primitive values to choke the human future. Well, as it is, you come no where near me in intelligence or enlightenment. Your dinosaur values are there floating in the air, waiting to become extinct. You can stagnate all you want, but enlightened men and women who're but keepers of the flames won't be drowning with you. It's the destiny of humanity to progress, not to remain stuck at a spot as your kind envision. You're still entitled to your right to prove the point of your parents though, by coming back here to give me an awestrucking response. You're going to show how these values they induced in you, and all the time you've spent with them has made you astoundingly insightful to come up with new ideas on how to solve humanity's problems and bring about the ideal society. Otherwise, just fvck off and leave the show for illuminated humans, admit that your parents were as pointless as their outdated values, and get out of the way for capable people to REVALUE ALL VALUES. |

Phaeze:Oh boy!! Is that why are you frothing at the mouth in anger?? Na wa, o! Take it easy. Get rid of the bile in your soul. Hate kills, you know. Try and seek professional help in order to rid yourself of the afflictions that torment your soul. I don't know what your parents did to you, to make you so bitter, but do try and forgive them. I hope you eventually find the peace you so desperately need, in order to let go of the hate that clouds your mind.... ![]()

laudate:The same game. I used the words because they're accurate. If you're stupid, I'll say it. Like I said, you're THICKLY endarkened, and revel with so much arrogance in the stupidity, even having the impudence and bumptiousness to think of schooling me. I'm under no obligations to be polite or politically correct. Call it hate, bile, depression, anger, pain and any other crap that fits into your delusions and fuel your stupidity, whatever floats your boat and makes you feel at the top of the world. I DON'T CARE. All I'm concerned about is showing your orientations to be false, backward, stagnating and toxic. If, however you choose instead to obsess over my tone, that simply shows where your priorities lie, and whatever you choose to make out of that is YOUR OWN BUSINESS. You can get lost now. |

Phaeze:Oh dear! The problems tormenting your soul must be many. You have just given the whole world a recital of all the ailments afflicting your soul (i.e. endarkened, arrogance, stupidity, impudence, bumptiousness, hate, bile, depression, anger, pain, false, backward, stagnating and toxic etc.) Eeyah! Those who inflicted all these things on you, deserve no mercy. Hehehe..... no wonder such toxic emotions are oozing out of your life.Like I told you the last time: Seek professional help. Don't be ashamed of your mental illness.

Your long epistle of hate & your tirade against parental values, just shows how dysfunctional your background was, and how starved of affection and good upbringing your childhood was, when you were growing up. Accept my sympathy. ![]() May you find the help you need, in order to achieve the peace you seek. ![]()
