Speaking while making his contributing to the debate on the 2017 budget during the senate plenary on Wednesday, a senator from Ondo state, Omoyele Omogunwa, called for the legalisation of corruption in the country.

The lawmaker who spoke at the u‎pper legislative chamber, lamented that corruption was pervasive in the country, argued that it should be “legalised”.

The senator said there was corruption in the judiciary, and even within the anti-corruption ‎agencies, adding that if corruption was legalised, Nigerians who stole public funds would use them in building factories and industries in the country, instead of having them stashed away abroad.

He added that the performance of the 2016 budget should be examined first before that of 2017 is determined.

The official Twitter handle of the Senate also confirmed Omogunwa’s suggestion, writing: “Senator Omogunwa notes that Budgets doesn’t have maximal impact due to corruption. He says corruption shld be legalized/liberalized then.”

It makes no danm sense. The CBN governor can as well loot the entire foreign reserve and start an industry with the loot, right? If we legalise corruption today, only the elites who are in public office will benefit. They will loot your future and that of your children today. In the next few years, the country will be so broke that there will be nothing left again to steal.

Fighting corruption is never going to be easy but we have no alternative than to continue battling the scourge. That Buhari failed a major test in the fight against corruption by clearing Babachir Lawal doesn't mean we should then legalise corruption. Nigerians must realise that the war on corruption is one that must be won in the long run.
oga shutup. it's ur likes that will be condemning People like Apostle Suleiman. at least he condemned corruption and mind u he just wanted to make common sense. since almost every politician is corrupt, is it not common sense to at least allow yahoo boys to enjoy their loot?

Oh!!!! God!!! if international media should hear this ....do they ever feel concern over how Nigerian citizens abroad feel when they embarrass them like this...how we cannot hold our heads high when we say we are Nigerians?..Every day Good and hard working citizens of Nigeria in diaspora kept on defending themselves when they are in the midst of their peers all over the world that we are not corrupt....And this brainless ones over there kept on disgracing us and rendering our defense useless. sad.

Oh yes, since Buhari and all the people in aso Rock are all thieves

The Nigeria aspiration is to be a " big man" who lives above the petty inconveniences that trouble lesser beings. He does not want to invent anything or solve any global problem except in so much as it advances his aspirations. The currency of his aspiration is money - lots of it, wherever he can find it how ever he can find it.

Until the mind set changes to one of creating value in exchange for money; of serving instead of Lording over others, I fear we will remain an inherently corrupt people.

And who says corruption hasn't already been legalized from the birth registry to the morgue?

Going by this logic, then it also implies, murder should be legalized because so many thousands of murder cases are unsolved, and if it is legalized, the killers can just murder people openly, so there won't be need for police investigation to determine who the murderers are. Or we could legalize rape since body no be firewood and if rape is legal, over hundred million Nigerian men can save their money, time and sundry resources for other important things to better our economy, and they can just fxck any girl they want in public, so that there won't be any need for police investigation on rape and we can save so much taxpayer money from being used for investigation and prosecution. Wonderful idea right?

i just literally went like Oh-my-fucking-gawd, are these the kinds of brain-dead people formulating national policy? No wonder Nigeria is so fuxked up...so fxked up that some people actually think MMM is not a SCAM, and so dumb to invest huge money in it. SMH undecided

Smh. If this statement was made by an Igbo man, the brown roof fockers would have the descended on igbos in this thread, like a venue of vultures.
But since it's one of their own, the story changes.

let me say unequivocally that Omoyele Omogunwa is a bastard from Ode Irele who got to the upper chambers of the national assembly by opportunity! His unpopular and senseless view does not represent the view of the Irele people let alone his senatorial district! please pardon him because he is under an irredeemable curse from beyond!

Corruption is a cankerworm that can't be allowed to grow beyond its present size, however, it is unfortunate that the country is under a false and unpatriotic siege at the moment.

that is the better truth from the senator, any government that claims to fight corruption is always interested in his enemies. So why fighting corruption if you can't be neutral?
