I am yet to comprehend why we allow some codes somewhere determine how we live our lives. It so funny how some rules made by some persons somewhere deprive us of our happiness in life.

The society in a bid to achieve social order through social construct, so restricts us that we almost live our entire lives for the society.
Questioning societal conventions has so much become abominable in our society that we live our lives acting out scripts drafted by fellow men.
I understand that the world has been almost entirely patriarchal that a woman’s role and place have often been quite subjugable.

The society has so restricted women and shoved them to the corner that they are often seen as options.
Consequently, this gender subjugating system has become really predominant in Africa that women have been reduced to mere kitchen elements.

Some African men are so myopic and sentimental that they selfishly allow their stomach come first as a parameter among others in choosing a life partner. When an African man is in love with a lady, such love can die down right on the spot precisely because of the lady’s inability to cook. What a myopic traditional perspective!

Am I of the opinion that rules are wrong? Not all! I am only of the opinion that certain rules or codes need to be reviewed and questioned once in a while. Any rule that prevents man from being man is no rule!
Why on earth should a woman’s ability to cook be the algebraic sum of the qualities she possesses?! I refuse to put up with such mentality.

In fact, whether or not a woman can cook, should never be a parameter for a man when choosing his life partner.
To me, a woman who can not cook is not so much different from a man who can not cook. The day we begin to treat people first as humans before even considering what ability or societal imposed defects they possess, the day the society takes its first right step towards attaining social justice and balance.

Since the ability to cook is not encoded in anybody’s DNA, there is therefore is no point ascribing such a role to a particular gender. In fact, if a woman is to be ashamed of herself for not knowing how to cook, then a man should not be far from doing the same.
The world has gone beyond being primitive. It is laughable that some persons have refused to keep pace with it.
There are a lot of catering schools out there. Who says catering schools are for commercial caterers only? For goodness sake, a person who can not cook(be it female or male) can always go there and learn.

The fact that a woman can not cook does not imply she lacks home training. The phrase ” home training, ” is relative and stereotypical in perspective.
I believe a man should care more about whether a woman possesses the ability to learn. It can never be any late to learn. So, instead of looking out for a woman’s ability to cook when choosing a partner, look out for the willingness in her ability to learn.
Your partner’s inability to cook should never be a reason for you to break up with her. What if man did not have to cook his meal before eating it? This could mean nobody would have no business in the kitchen.

Can you try looking past your stomach and focus on the bigger picture?
